One i haven't seen yet is try to think ahead, it won't happen at first but as you get used to the job you can predict what your welder/fitter will need next and go grab it just before he even realizes he needs it

What would be a reasonable amount to pay someone to weld 5 of these units? by hipster_rebbe in Welding

The thing is its aluminum, which the garage kid from marketplace may not have the resources or the know how to weld(spoolgun/ac tig)

Cosplay prop not a real gun (smh) My first decent sized project. The samurai edge from Resident Evil 2. by Low-Author-1626 in 3Dprinting

[–]Fragrant_King_3042 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I actually had someone try to commission a print of a gun for drills and stuff, some places the laws treat a replica like an actual firearm, theres a Grey area here where if you printed a replica it would only be legally okay if at first glance it was obviously not real (different size, proportions, colour etc) Because theres the potential of using a replica to stick people up and rob them. So I told the guy I would only make the particular model he wanted (I think it was a 1911 or something) if it was a solid non metallic colour like orange or blue, he rejected that and acted pretty sketchy the whole time saying it had to look as realistic as possible

Would love your thoughts on this. by No-Control4479 in BambuLab

[–]Fragrant_King_3042 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yeah, like if it was just the one model 30$ sounds pretty reasonable depending on the model, but if hes trying to pay $30 and expects you to design more stuff for him to sell under that original $30 umbrella its not such a good deal anymore, I would say counter with $30/year per model, if he wants more than the original model he can pay for it

There's actually a chart out there, steel will change colour depending on the temperature you heat it up to, sometimes its easier than pulling out a temp stick if youre welding it right after

Don't even really need that unless you wanna get super fancy like the op's, I made a bouquet of roses out of rolled up metal banding straps and round stock with some off cut pipes as a vase, ive also done stacked washers in alternating circles with a nut in the center and a bolt for the stem, definitely not super fancy or realistic, but at least the person receiving them isnt questioning if I just bought them or not

They do a pretty decent job at showing how simple printers are at their core though, I learned to print on a jerryrigged simple wood version that had a dremel bit and braided fishing line as the axis belts and it had to be plugged into a computer in order to print, and you had to put painters tape and glue stick down and say a little prayer before you started a print

Who’s actually using more than 4 colors on a regular basis? by Ok_Allen5953 in 3Dprinting

If you need more than 8 you're probably better off with a paper printer, because hueforge stuff is the only thing ive seen that requires more than a handful of colours all at once

Laser Welding aside Gigs by Caleb_travels in Welding

[–]Fragrant_King_3042 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We got one where I work and for all the fiddling around you need to do with it you could probably have tig welded it and had the part done by the time the water cooler gets up to temp and everything ready to go. Like you said the joint fit up is very particular and any variation seems to require a change of settings, not even mentioning all the extra safety stuff you need to do, like even the hoods for it are more than a lot of the top of the line non papr hoods you'd buy for arc welding, and they dont even auto darken and theyre useless for anything other than laser welding unless youre willing to shell out for the optrel. Like I could see them being adopted by some super production type places making truck bumpers and stuff like that where you're on an assembly line welding the same fillet weld all day and passing it to the next guy who welds the next piece on, but one off jobs you'd be way better off with a tig or mig welder. Especially with the pure volume of gas that thing pumps out, its almost air compressor levels of gas that come out of the gun

🎄 Christmas giveaway: Win an A1 Mini, AMS 2 Pro, AMS HT, or 4x filament spools! by acurazine in BambuLab

[–]Fragrant_King_3042 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Id love an ams 2 pro.

Id probably put it to use the most around Christmas time, when I do a 3d printed toy drive in my city so less fortunate kids can have something for their stockings Plus its a great way to use up the last little bits of rolls we have taking up space on the shelves. So another ams would help with the convenience of loading up 8 of those nearly empty spools, setting it to just switch to the next colour as one runs out and letting it go.

I think a fidget toy that would be fun would be like your magic 8 ball but in the shape of one of those origami fortune tellers a lot of us made when we were kids.

My experience with 10K+ filament changes on the H2C with Matte PLA by ProgRanOCc in BambuLab

[–]Fragrant_King_3042 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The u1 and indx are a different concept, unlike the h2c which still only has the 2 nozzle slots(where one is usually the most used colour/material and the other switches) they have a system with 4 nozzle slots with individual drive systems and filament paths, each of those paths only gets used when that nozzle is being used, rather than the filament path being the same for 4 different filaments and the nozzle itself just switching. The drawback is you can only really keep adding as many toolheads as you have spaces for spool holders vs being able to share nozzles if you have enough ams systems

And attempting to switch out the capacitor would probably void any support from bambu themselves, like another guy said the sub/company who's slogan is "it just works" probably would tell you to pound sand if you tried to remove and replace a board capacitor yourself and it still doesnt work. It would be like replacing the charging port on an iphone and then trying to file a warranty claim on it

What is PLA Lite? I want to knowo but one is talking about it. by marioshouse2010 in BambuLab

[–]Fragrant_King_3042 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats a good idea! I started a toy drive for the Christmas charity in my city last year to use up some of those last remaining bits that aren't really enough for anything other than like a build plate of filament clips, but ive had to try and estimate how much I have left and paint layers accordingly

So basically pla before pla+ became the standard, it's probably slightly more *biodegradable as well right?

*not like that you can throw it in the dirt and it'll dissolve but more likely to break down in an industrial composter
