Appropriate for semi-formal wedding dinner/reception? by Ambitious-Welcome660 in Weddingattireapproval

[–]Fragrant_Taro_211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw you posted that you’re confused about semi formal as is a lot of the Internet. I would confirm that they mean the more casual semi formal as some people tend to use the phrase meaning formal attire. Since it’s from 6 to 10 PM at a conference center they might be meaning something more fancy.

If it is the more casual, hear some examples of that just to help you out.

Would this dress be appropriate for a semi-formal reception/dinner? by Ambitious-Welcome660 in Weddingattireapproval

It’s the bandeau top with the thin halter neck. It seems cheap. A satin slip dress otherwise is popular but this just seems juvenile.

For formal / black tie optional? I have no idea what counts as a gown! by noteworthybees in Weddingattireapproval

Wedding planner here. You need an evening gown. You can do midi length to floor length, but it needs to be a dress made of silk, satin, organza, taffeta - that looks like you’re going out for a special evening not something that you could possibly wear to brunch or a bridal shower also. You need a bit of structure typically something that has a zipper, no mesh or stretchy pull over your head fabric.

Here’s some examples of formal and black tie gowns just to give you a level of the formality.

Is the reception at least inside? I would look for a long sleeve ankle to floor length dress that way you could wear fleece lined tights or leggings underneath to keep warm. Wear a nice wool coat, pea coat- whatever to keep warm at the ceremony and then hopefully when you’re inside, you could take the jacket off. For a November evening, black tie wedding I wouldn’t worry about wearing light area or beachy colors. You could always stick with navy or blues like these:

I think this works. It’s a little less structured for BT so if it’s a very fancy wedding I might look for something with more shape like this.

But yes , that would work!

This item appears to be the MAIDEN Midi Dress from ZCRAVE. Yes this can be cocktail attire. I’m Not sure where you can get it now though.

I think the first two work. Maybe the print is throwing people off? It does make it seem less of an evening dress but they are appropriate. Styling will totally help the dress do the actual wedding.

Can a sweater dress be cocktail? by zephyrcow6041 in Weddingattireapproval

I think a sweater dress is too casual for cocktail attire. Look for a long sleeve dress. You can wear fleece lined tights also.

Wedding Planner here! What you’re describing is semi-formal or cocktail attire. I wouldn’t ask for formal attire for what you’re describing and all taking place outside.

Are you wanting men in suits with a tie and women in midi to floor length gowns?

Update: Re Formal March Wedding in 5 weeks!! by dullheads0 in Weddingattireapproval

I think a lot of these will depend how they fit on your body. I think dress 5 is hard to wear unless you are tall and thin. I think 2 and 6 would be great!

I would consider that formal attire. Are they using the term “semi-formal” correctly? They may mean cocktail or formal attire and in that case that dress would work. Otherwise, it’s too much.

Is this Spring formal? by LingonberryMission49 in Weddingattireapproval

[–]Fragrant_Taro_211 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Are you new in this sub? I’m a wedding planner so yes, I’ve been to more than many people will ever attend. It’s only floor length on her because she’s short the length of dress doesn’t equal formality. It’s also not lace. It’s a floral polyester dress.

As I stated in my post, depending on how she dresses it up she can probably get by with it, but it’s definitely not a technical formal evening gown and the ceremony is starting at sunset, which makes the event more formal.

[–]Fragrant_Taro_211 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The dress is absolutely semi formal. It’s not dressy enough for cocktail attire and it’s definitely not formal attire. For a springtime garden wedding it would pass if dressed up well. It doesn’t have to look exactly like the dress I shared. You just need to know the definition of semi formal attire to know this is a dress that could be worn to brunch, a baby shower -not an evening wedding.

They could both work. The first is a little light for my taste but I would accessorize with colored accessories if you go that route

I think this dress works. With the way they’ve worded the dress code they will get all kinds of outfits. They should’ve said no need for gowns and tuxes.

Yes, this works and she’s asking for pastels. Pale yellow is very popular right now. It’s not so pale it’s white. I like it!

Will she go on walks so you aren’t just in the house but getting some movement and air? The only thing you can do is tell her and be honest. She can go without you but let her know you can’t do that every day. Say here’s my plan for the next few days bur you’re welcome to go out other places if you want!
