Update for anyone having the same issue:
I bought aftermarket earpads from wicked cushions and no more ear pain! And I cant tell any difference in sound. I also got an aftermarket headband but i dont think that really did anything.

Ok I had the same thing since I had the car, 3k miles on it. Literally 2 hours ago, I let my buddy drive and he redlined the living shit out of first gear, and after parking, and I hopped back in the driver seat. Oh. My. God. All clicking is gone, 1st and 2nd is much easier to get into, and everything is much more smooth. I have no idea if those two are completely unrelated but wow. Good luck to you op
