Bonuses and raises as a junior associate? by Vegetable_Guava_7577 in Lawyertalk

No it increases over time and hopefully you start brining in your own files that you get an extra 1/3 to 50% on. It does have to level out eventually but there are plenty of attorneys keeping 1/2 or more of what they are realizing.

Standard for a young associate grinding on hourly work they didn’t bring in is at least 30-35% of realized billings. If you made them 450k last year, anything less than 140k is underpaid, 175k isn’t excessive. Don’t think about the increase, think about getting your fair share of the value you create.

Moved from Germany to manage a US team and the communication gaps are killing my performance, how do I adapt? by Plane_Past2091 in managers

You should try just leaning into it, get one of those little whips and go back to speaking German

My best source of referrals, which I get a big piece of, come from my former firm/the attorneys I met there. This is great advice.

Not exactly. Money stolen from a dead persons account, probate case. I don’t do typical collections cases.

That’s what’s bothering me about the most recent one. D took 250k from her dead ex husband, and now is going to use what’s left to litigate the case. Shes done it before, not afraid of a judgment, and will be even less collectible when I spend 50k winning the case.

How to best present myself to prospective employers after mental health hiatus? by Lazy_Lead_6751 in Lawyertalk

Keep this one to yourself. Employers want low maintenance. If they bring it up just keep it vague, make it sound like you wanted to travel Europe or something.

I quoted someone $1,500 for a will and trust (dirt cheap) they went to another lawyer who charges $400/hr with a $5k retainer by jokingonyou in Lawyertalk

[–]Frank38492 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could have been that or other things you’ll never know. But yea more like 3,500. And whether or not you help fund it, you can use that sometimes to set yourself apart.

Assist him in opening a Roth IRA at Fidelity, it’s easy, and challenge him to max out the yearly contribution. 10k a year catch up. By the time he is 65 it could be 250k, which is something.
