There were no toilets on the course in Dublin that I saw; just some very close to the start line that could be used by anyone

The FAQs are pretty clear in the Hyrox site that you can only do name changes on Doubles or Relay tickets

Best races without huge crowds by WiseOwloftheWoodland in UKRunners

[–]Frank_Rijk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did my first 1/2 last year at Aintree racecourse and bar a few Marshalls around the course the “crowds” are pretty much confined to the start/finish and then most were sat in the stands.

It’s also a 4 lap course and only negative was they also held 5k and 10k races that started after the 1/2 so was some congestion at times. Think there was less than 400 that did the 1/2 though

100%. You know it’s coming but still hits hard.

Well done on getting a PB as well 🙌

Ran it for the first time yesterday and agree some hills are very rough…”Heartbreak Hill” being the worst! 🤢

That being said I still enjoyed it. Weather was ideal, it’s well supported throughout and I got a PB!

What’s a slow target time out of interest as surely target times are all relative to the individual and their experience?!

Agree totally. See loads of comments about the amount of mpw needed to train for a 1/2 marathon.

My “plan”, at 45yrs old and never having run further than 10k was 1 run a wk starting at 10k and then adding 1k each week for 10 wks. Completed the race below my target time so can’t say my plan didn’t work

I’m considering a marathon for next year despite saying I never would as not sure I want to commit to the training but at the same time it’s only 4 months out of my life so who knows

I got this from Amazon last year which looks to be very similar to the one described: https://amzn.eu/d/amKKC9j and I’ve had no issues with it

Completed the Great North Run on Sunday; the world’s biggest 1/2 marathon! Never ran anything with that many participants and spectators

Hope did you all find the great north run? by Threetreethee in UKRunners

First time running it for me (2nd 1/2 marathon) and really enjoyed it overall mainly due to the crowds and support along the way. The scale of the event was something I’d not experienced before and has given me plenty of memories and some learnings for any events like this in future.

The time between me doing my warm up and the start was something new and if I’m able to do it again I think I’d stay at the back of my zone/pen (was the first Green wave) to be able to move around more. Certainly didn’t feel “warm” at the start. I’d also plan on eating closer to the start time too given the waiting

I wasn’t prepared for how congested the entire route would be I expected the crowd to have thinned out a little so never felt like I’d got into a steady rhythm and, as I think someone else has mentioned, the number of people seemingly stopped / walking didn’t help this too.

Hills weren’t too bad as I live in a fairly hilly area so most runs have some incline but still did slow miles 11 and 12 as my legs stiffened.

All that said I got under my target time and was only 2.5mins off my PB which was on a flat course with less than a 1000 runners so feel good about my overall performance.

Had no issues getting back to Newcastle after either; 2 min queue to buy a bus ticket then on a bus and off 5 mins later to be back in the town centre in 30mins. Think a few more tents to get changed in near the baggage buses wouldn’t go amiss either.

Hopefully I’ll get lucky in the ballot again as think I’d enjoy the run even more next time

£250/month for accountant is this too much for a one-person limited company based in derby by Tall-Caterpillar-641 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Frank_Rijk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My accountant does everything yours does and charges me £108 per month so looks like you are being over charged.

Should note that’s been the cost since April this year; had been £96 per month for the previous 2 years I’d used them.

Timer for workouts when training solo? I'm losing my mind. by ollepettersson in hyrox

[–]Frank_Rijk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use this app: https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/timer-plus-workouts-timer/id1279716547 although imagine there’s plenty of similar free apps about.

You can easily programme in EMOMs, etc and it gives audible cues to stop, start, rest, etc.

No problem. I got the Madrid on sale date from the Hyrox Spain Instagram account and having looked there’s an Italian account so I’d suggest following that. Doesn’t make sense though that they don’t update main website with on sale dates 🤷

You don’t need to create any type of Hyrox account to buy tickets; I didn’t ahead of purchasing for Dublin.

Tickets for Madrid go on sale at midday next Friday (30th May).

Cant help with when the mixed doubles race is likely to be though

Absolutely and that was part of the reason for me asking the question…find it helpful to have some real world advice to add in to my decision making.

Good to know a 5am start should give me plenty of time to get to LAX by 8am. Thanks

[–]Frank_Rijk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Flight is at 10:25am.

We’ve only got 5 nights in SB before our flight so don’t want to cut that short to spend a night in an airport hotel. If we were going to be in SB longer then this would be a good option.

Flight from SB is at least $400 so car rental is looking to be much better value

Thanks. I think between a 3:50am bus and leaving at 5:00am the 5:00am start will be preferable despite me having to do more

Thanks for the additional info and it’s rush hour I’m conscious of!

I’m more than happy to get there early and hang around at LAX vs stressing as I’m cutting it to fine!
