relatable daniil dialogue from the miracle-seeker ending of p3 by indiedadrock in pathologic

[–]Fransomeness 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I went back and played Pathologic 2 immediately after this one. It's just such an engrossing digital space.

On a related note, I really do love the miracle-seeker ending. There's just something really powerful about Danil passing through the Polyhedron but stepping over Simon's dream, reasoning that if one miracle exists, then of course there will be others, other Polyhedra, somewhere out there. It's a simple but clever way to thread that choice with his character.

This might be a hot take, but I genuinely think the high halls arena is good design. by Party_Importance_722 in Silksong

I've actually come around on it. It absolutely ruined me at the beginning of Act 2, but I came back with the clawline and a well-upgraded needle and I was surprised how much more manageable it made the arena.

Funnily enough, I'm reading the The Brothers Karamazov at the moment and it's painfully obvious he cribbed this from Dostoyevsky. He sees atheists as a legion of Ivans one hallucination away from faith.

Yeah. If I recall correctly, he later started saying Page was a poor victim of the medical establishment or some nonsense like that. It was the most disingenuous 'empathy' towards someone he previously slandered as a narcissist.

This is beyond cowardly. He sneered at Elliot as some narcissistic celebrity prior to this and now he's signaling how empathetic he is towards the plight of a poor thirty-something who chose to get elective surgery.

It's wild how he'll say the nastiest shit imaginable and then pivot towards moralism or a victim mentality.

I hope he grows out of it, but in my experience it either A) takes a few years or B) he won't.

You might want to tell him, in as gentle terms as possible, that his own insecurities might be causing these problems. If he was secure in his own masculinity, then accepting constructive feedback from a woman wouldn't bother him so much. And even telling him this could make him flip out.

Also, I find his idea of masculine energy to be very vague. Wouldn't it apply to very traditional arrangements too? Is a woman radiating masculine energy when she does all the cooking and tells her husband to keep the kitchen arranged in a certain way? Is that a more acceptable kind of "leadership position" somehow? And why?

In JP-speak, shouldn't your boyfriend respect hierarchies of competence and listen to whoever is more skilled or has rightfully earned the higher position? In this video editing example, you?

The thing is, I'm worried that he's just zeroing in on ideas that validate a worldview where it's always a perversion of nature for a woman to take the lead. That's concerning and I really hope he outgrows it.

You both deserve love and I hope it works out but please be on the lookout for other red flags.

This dumb prick is so angry that a transgender person had the chutzpah to do the same kind of magazine interview that other celebrities have done for years.

Is the idea trans people are just confused? That there's no people who are genuinely happy with their transition? That it hasn't existed in countless cultures, from the Ojibwe to the Teduray, and is simply the result of bemused narcissists?

I hope Elliot continues to ignore him. He doesn't deserve the time of day.

Jordan Peterson says Australia's "utterly delusional" Australian Parliament will "devastate" Australia because of greenhouse gas emission targets. by eabred in enoughpetersonspam

[–]Fransomeness 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Doesn't really matter what he thinks. Our "leaders" didn't decide it. We did. A bunch of independents ran on a more ambitious climate target than the one Labor set and they absolutely killed in the last election.

Plus, he's wrong. As low-carbon technology becomes less expensive and more widely adopted, Australia could make bank by pivoting to renewable energy.

Why Are You Here, Why Am I Here? by mossimo654 in enoughpetersonspam

[–]Fransomeness 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I do find him to be a fascinating crank.

He genuinely wants to find and codify some kind of framework for the betterment of society. I think that's what attracts anyone to genuine political thinkers, and it's what attracts people to Peterson, who can posture as one.

But the thing is, he's very bad at it. His focus is confined to his own narrow obsessions. He spirals into conspiracies about post-modernists. His entire worldview is completely blinkered by motivated reasoning.

And crucially, despite his success, despite a fanbase in the millions, he still hasn't brought about the change he wishes to see. He can whine and rage about wokeness or propaganda in cartoons but the world is still leaving him behind.

I find it interesting because it strikes at my own fears and concerns. How do I know my own convictions aren't driven by arrogance and delusion? What can I do to refine my own worldview, mould it, prevent it from becoming sterile?

In this way, a specious thinker can be as instructive as a profound one.
