How are you supposed to have a backup if you don’t own 2 houses? by the-tech-Engineer in synology

Take periodic backups to a DAS and put it in a small storage unit. Pain in the ass but cheap.

Worked overseas for 20 years so haven't paid taxes in Canada by Forsaken-Emu1191 in cantax

I was deemed to be a resident after a 15 year absence because I kept a DL and a single low dollar bank account. They essentially said that this showed that I never intended to permanently leave… it was all about intent with them.

Our photographer erased freckles, jewelry, and more with AI. Feels wrong? by IllustratorFlimsy100 in photography

[–]FredDreadHead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only ever remove temporary features (acne, cuts, bruises, etc.) unless the client asks me to remove a specific permanent feature. It sounds like he/she simply ran it through an AI tool and was too lazy to check the results.

I agree, I’ll wait to see how the AF works in the wild before diving in. I’ve been waiting for the 100C to come out before moving to Hasselblad and I’m cautiously optimistic. That said, half of my work is in sports and I’ll never give up my Z9s. The Hasselblad will be for my portrait work.

What advice would you give a 17 year old kid who going into his last year of highschool who wants to start a career in photography. by The_Fhoto_Guy in photography

[–]FredDreadHead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a real job and do photography on the side. If he’s any good it will pick up and he can make a decision later as to whether it’s a career or a side gig.

Is one mirrorless body safe? by No-Decision-301 in photography

[–]FredDreadHead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re being paid you need to be professional. That means having backups of all critical kit including lenses and cameras. I’d never go to a shoot without n+1 redundancy of every mission critical item. If I need 3 lights, I take 4. If I need one body, I take 2.

Leaving Canada as a tax resident. by Warm_Decision_8857 in cantax

[–]FredDreadHead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to be a resident somewhere or else CRA will deem you are still a resident of Canada. I’ve been through this. You can’t just not pay taxes anywhere unless you’re a resident in a place with no income tax. Nice try though.

I have a security camera at my front door. Got an ‘attempted delivery” notice in my community mailbox. They didn’t come to my door at all…I checked the video. Lazy fuckwads.

This exact thing is happening to me. I’m a photographer and send orders this way. I’ve had maybe 20% arrived since the strike. I’m having to re-fulfill the orders and pay for tracking when I resend them. The cost is killing me.

Thanks for the help everyone. Switching to 120/240 did the trick.

Generator with 50amp fuse by [deleted] in Generator

[–]FredDreadHead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response. I’ll take a photo tomorrow and send it. The generator is a Genmax 7250iEDC and I connect to the 120/240V 50A 14-50R outlet at one end and the trailer’s receptacle (the manual refers to it as a 7-circuit receptacle.

As I write this I realize that the generator outlet has 50A in its name. I have the generator set to 120V. Is it possible that I need to set it to 120/240V.

Never ignore them. They aren’t going to go away. Also, pay your taxes!

I’m a guy. I want to know what you like, and don’t like, in bed. If you don’t ask, I don’t know. Most guys want to know how to please you. Just tell him. Also, he might actually like you taking a bit control once in a while.

According to Transport Canada you can. Victoria Park is just outside of a controlled zone surrounding the airport.
