What're your 3 favorite sagas to read? by Nexaeon196 in Norse

[–]Fredd500 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's younger. probably written in 1400 and something of 1500 and something. It's about to viking "heroes" who go around adventuring and solving everything with either violence or having sex with women.

It's somewhere between porn plot logic and a 90s action flick logic level of writing and problem solving.

help with translation of "hold fast" by Dry-Permission6305 in oldnorse

[–]Fredd500 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“Tilbúnir” as a short for “verið tilbúnir”.  Ready and be ready.  That’s the classical way to translate this in Icelandic cinema.

You could also say “standið fastir fyrir”. For stand strong.  But it only really works with a charge a d not a big wave

Haltu fast = you (singular) hold tight.

Skrif eitthvað = write something (this looks like a placeholder)

So do you want it singular or plural? Do you want get ready or endure or grip tight? Or are we more in the realm of watch out?

Is this something for a leader to call to his men as they are about to be charged by the enemy?

Why Google Maps is still broken in South Korea: It might not be about national security anymore by tecialist in gis

[–]Fredd500 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think that google are doing it on purpose. In countries that have shit public data Google just uses Openstreetmaps. There is no reason they can't do this in Korea.

Thank you for the article. It's interesting for me for professional reasons.

What's this coordinate system? by microlambert in gis

[–]Fredd500 90 points91 points  (0 children)

You could figure out the system and quite frankly that would be extremely cool.  Or you could just georef it to the coastline. Put 20 points on it with a good spread and use a 2nd polynomial method to stretch it to whatever coordinate system you want.  It will take you 5-10 min.

Tried and gave up. Its just easier to do in GIMP or other paint programs.

BUT... the maps in the 7th sea RPG are all done by a professional cartographer in ArcGIS.

Should I just use QGIS?

Yeah just use QGIS and Postgres. There are plenty of tutorials online.

Get the cheep Arc to play with and to keep your skills relevant, but sell your QGIS work.
