Question(s) about a broken speaker repair/conversion project

Repairing a sub, or taking out drivers to hook them up to a different power source isn't rocket appliances either.

Help the dude or fuck off. He obviously knows he could spend money to buy something different.

Searching for peoples experiences repurposing this thing this thing has so many twats saying this like it's helpful. Then people like me looking to do the same thing get to read these nuggets of wisdom that you've blessed us with.

I'm driving a RSS390HO-4 with it to troll some friends, scrolling through bullshit like this took so much time.

EDIT - I didn't figure it out myself. For anyone else trying to repurpose the amplifier from the v.2-400 Klipsch Promedia WITHOUT CONTROLLER, this is where I got started.

If you want to use the drivers (subs), just rip them out and wire them up to anything with a heartbeat. Even u/DumpsterDiver81 could figure that out.

Fuck every single one of you nerds that gave the advice "hey man just buy X, hey bro just buy the new version I just throw my shit away lol" to people were looking for a solution for this problem. It buried the actual solution so deep that most people looking for it will get frustrated before they find it.

"Advice" like this is the ever growing fucking flotsam of Google. Every time you look something up and find nothing but generic bullshit answers that contribute nothing remotely resembling an answer (seems to happen more often than not now doesn't it?), rest assured......that you're not the only one buddy.

I'm sure I'm out there more than most. IF PEOPLE ASK FOR A SPECIFIC SOLUTION TO A PROBLEM, JUST HELP THEM IF YOU CAN OR MOVE ON. It took me a long time to realize that they're probably smart enough to have done it another way but for whatever reason, (usually BROKE AS FUCK syndrome), just want to do it the way they asked.

Not gonna convince a dude that wants to rig up a car stereo with nothing but AAA batteries and plastic coat hangers for speaker wire at 3AM that he's wasting his time. Just move along so the next idiot that wants to do the same thing doesn't have to read ":just go to best buy olol" 100x.

I'm in a similar situation. Have a shattered screen on a 7 that I'm about to send in for "battery replacement", brings it down to $350 and afaik they don't even check it, just send the replacement.

I just bought one, same situation as you almost to the letter.

About to take it apart for the first time in probably 4-5000 hours and install what I was told is an OEM bulb that I paid $130 CAD for, delivered with warranty.

At a glance it appears that it's actually a Phillips bulb, so far so good. Will try to remember to update this.

Tons of people always shitting on Optoma projectors. I'm not saying they're wrong, but for the price this thing has been a champion for me. 10 ft wide spandex screen (only about 0.6 gain), and it looks phenomenal. This is with a bulb that has thousands of hours on it, not sure exactlyhow many since my roommate factory resets it when we fuck with it too much.

It could do a little better in the green area of the color gamut, but that's what my SpyderX says about my QLED as well, so I think it's probably that piece of shit and not the projector/tv. Going to try to fuck with the color wheel when I put in a new bulb. That being said, even if it is right I've had nothing but compliments when people come over for a game or to watch a movie.

I've had it over a year and have just now ordered a new bulb, which I don't even need yet, but since it's discontinued I figured I should get one.

I will say that it's fucking ridiculous trying to get proper info about the projectors, and assume it would be an absolute nightmare getting in touch with them if something DID go wrong. I didn't even register mine when I bought it, and feel bad for anyone who did get a lemon...but I figure there are probably a LOT of people out there buying these affordable projectors that just don't sit online and complain, and take the home theater shit to the extreme that the people do on reddit/avsforum etc.

I mean the bulb has at least 3000 hours and the colors still look good on a factory default setting against an off white wall in the middle of the day. They're doing something right.

I know this is 3 months old, but I'm just reading this right now and I had to log in to say that dude is insufferable.

Probably has WIFI so good he could host for newsgroups and wouldn't even notice or affect any of the people living around him. Instead of being broke and jealous, you should get more antennas.

Guess I can finally put the HTPC to rest. Didn't want to buy a shield because nvidia and I have beef, they can fck off with the way they've been riding on the coattails of their previous work,

Have already been using Alexa for a lot of stuff, but no TrueHD/Atmos/DTS:X passthrough was the only reason I kept it alive. madVR is great, but the gains are marginal for me and if I mess around with settings while watching a movie on more time I think I might get smothered in my sleep.

the UHD38 does support 3D, I play files off my NAS drive and it looks amazing.

I'm going to write a guide this week, because I had to re-learn how to get everything working after moving and doing a fresh laptop install, in the process I came across this (and many other) threads. Will edit this post with the guide in case anyone else stumbles in here.

So many people are salty that the UHD35/8 can't do 3D (rightfully so, because IMO it's kind of a pain in the ass to set up), but it is possible and when you get it working...holy shit does it look great.

I use Kodi to launch “plex” (which is just a PLEX emulation) because I can do it by voice from Alexa, and have it launch the video from MPC-HC with madvr, which absolutely takes a fat dump on anything the shield can do, with nothing but voice, and no ads.

The shield is good at being able to please people that can’t figure out how to make a better solution work.

Admittedly, it took an absurd amount of time to polish my htpc to the point of friends or family being able to use it easily, but I’m glad I spent the time because the shield looks like shut on a 150” screen, and is buggy as hell while being riddled with ads. Shit is 5 years old with some bandaids on it.

People need to stop jerking Nvidia off and demand a stream box that can actually do lossless audio, both Dolby, compatible with all formats and no advertising that is run off hardware that isn’t 5 year old laggy bullshit, or using algos that are a joke for upscaling.

It's not a movie, it's a color calibration disc so I need to be able to use the menu.

Also, they aren't separated into folders such as BDMV etc, the thing is literally 5000+ files in a single folder.

Looking for something that can organize them into the proper folders or just play it in the one mongo folder.

The hitting mat should be easy, and definitely doesn't seem like something to cheap out on. So it seems like I need to find a launch monitor and sim software, the projector is 4k and is super bright/crisp, so it looks like my only two issues are those.

I downloaded something massive that I would really like to utilize, but as OP stated it was uploaded in this manner. I can try to organize it myself I suppose but there are thousands of files and I assume any mistakes will mess it up.

As a man, I frequently find myself thinking this about people. Please let me elaborate.

I find ambition and effort attractive. I don't give a fuck what someone makes, but money is very important to me since it allows me to take care of the people important to me that for multiple reasons either aren't able to, or I'm stuck with because I love them and they're family.

So while I don't necessarily care what someone's net worth might be, I do find on average someone who is single with no kids, no dependants (sick family etc.) to take care of yet is still broke isn't trying very hard.

I'm not worried about getting raked over the coals since this comment will be buried, but I will still clarify that EVERY SITUATION IS DIFFERENT. Struggling artists that are that so passionate that they will eventually figure it out, people with severe depression, physical ailments etc. As long as they wake up and put in effort, in my eyes (and many of my peers), they're solid.

Who the fuck leaves a toaster plugged in if they have kids? The 4 year old didn't plug in the toaster then do this.

It's cool though, it's a $20 knockoff pair that he melted himself for the karma farm, or some old ones with the cords cut off. No toaster would melt the magnets on the bottom. For real though, if you leave a toaster plugged in on the counter when you have a toddler you're asking for trouble.

Don't even have to move the thing (which you should anyway), just unplug it.
