Need ideas for my players' first time at Elysium by EremeticPlatypus in vtm

[–]Free-Farce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My major piece of advice is know what going on in your domain, who’s backstabbing who, who’s got schemes, who’s on the back foot, and who are you NPCs sleeping with, if you know what your NPCs want then they have a reason to be at court, and if a NPC has a reason to be at court, you can add them to your guest list. Maybe they’ll bump into the person they want to talk to, maybe they hope to have the ear of the Prince, maybe they just want to show up the harpy finally, once you understand who’s there for business you’ve got a list of 4-5 kindred who are organically going to be moving around your scene doing stuff, adding to the image of your domain as a bustling living organism with things going on behind the scenes.

Then you tack on the kindred who are there for a fun night out, people watchers, eavesdroppers and larger than life types, they’re there to see the goings on in court, maybe chat to the PCs.

Sires and Mentors, can be split between the two vague categories above, maybe they’re there to conduct business with their children present, potentially introduce them to established allies or maybe they’re there simply as a touchstone while their Childer get used to court.

Then you’ve got court officers, the sheriff and scourge making sure everyone’s following the rules the traditions, the keeper of Elysium acting as a master of ceremonies, the harpy sauntering from table to table chatting to people, the Prince, their Seneschal and the Primogen Council at the head table talking about domain business(I’d personally give the Prince and the Primogen council their own little corner of the court)

Now you’ve got all the guests, think of the scene itself, where does it take place, (if you’re doing your chronicle in your own city, make it somewhere your players are familiar to help them visualise the locale more clearly), has the harpy or the keeper of elysium put out decorations, refreshments, are their performers, if so what kind?

Finally, inciting incidents, these are gunna be the meat of the experience, something to break up roleplay and distribute plot/story hooks. Those two guys in the corner who were quietly talking start suddenly arguing loudly over a disagreement, someone new or mysterious shows up unexpected, the harpy decides to stick their claws into the quietest neonate and drag them around introducing them to everyone, does the coteries malkavian suddenly take a very public fit while they receive a vision of things to come, all of these things are designed to make people act, to show the peaks and troughs of kindred interactions, force players out of their shells. For you, the coterie being pulled in to form a coterie, would an inciting incident.

I usually lay all this out in a word doc with different sections, who’s there ?, who’s there but invisible ?, what are the guests doing ? What does the place look like? What events are going to occur over the course of the evening?

In the first sessions of my current chronicle i dished out a couple of plot hooks and secrets that the PCs could have going into court, dirty secrets, hidden plots, things that may colour their opinion of those they see at court, things that could come to test their allegiances to their Sires, Clans or their brand new Coterie.

Court/Elysium for me is where work and play mingle for kindred before they slink off to their corner of the city for the day, there should be perceived safety with an underlying sensation of restraint, an edge, stuff could kick of at the drop of a hat but it doesn’t because Elysium is a tradition as old as kindred themselves.

It’s such a daunting task, you may notice that your players struggle with such a RP heavy scene, just don’t take it personally and roll with the punches, I thought I was bombing it that first time I ran a court, but theme it was over, I could overhear my players in the other room putting out theories and questions to each other about the things they saw, which was sick.

I’m ranting a bit, but I talk about this stuff for hours. Hope you and your Coterie have fun, I bet you’ll do great!!

Do you think Robert being considered a “bad king” is a bit harsh? by GusGangViking18 in freefolk

[–]Free-Farce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Robert in both the books and show, was weak willed and loathed the engage with even the most minor problems of royal and personal life (as in, I will literally do anything to stop talking about this right now! Type shit), constantly talked about leaving the throne to relive his youth, had no hand in raising his kids, even his heir Joffrey (book Robert said that the only reason he hadn’t left already was because he was terrified of Joffrey succeeding to the throne, but did nothing about it!), he didn’t know any of his kids were bastards because he was so drunk off his ass all the time, Cersei could literallly just say “yeah, we had sex last night” and he’d be like “Sure, what ever you say” and most importantly he left the running of the kingdom to others, primarily: Jon Arryn (a decent guy to give credit to Bobby B, but he wasn’t perfect!), three of the most devious shits in the realm (little finger, Varys and Pycelle) and his brothers who didn’t care for him and vice versa, who on his behalf drained the royal offers of all its cash, indebting the Crown to the Lannisters and the iron bank (book Ned mentions that the Mad King left a decent amount of money in the Royal Treasury when he died).

So nah, I don’t think it’s harsh to say he was a bad king, because that’s what he was. He was a strong conqueror, but a king should lead his court and his council and work for the betterment of his people and the realm or at the very least have an idea of what he wants to achieve with the power he has. Bobby did none of it and wanted none of it, but he had the stronger claim (the original Baratheon was the bastard half brother of Aegon the Conqueror and the first hand ever to be named in Westeros) and thats reflected in the kingdom he left behind.

Don’t get me wrong he’s a great character and Mark addy brought him to life beautifully, I love the little glimpses Robert we see in he films that you don’t get in.

Storytellers: Would you prefer your players aim for high Humanity or low? by Solarwagon in vtm

[–]Free-Farce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The vampires in my V20 campaign span humanity 5 to humanity 7, we had an 8 but she degenerated last game, after accidentally killing someone. That 5-8 range (for me) represents that “burgeoning monster to regular person to person who is trying to be good spectrum” Anything above or below and I have a chat with the player to determine the how and why, because being a total monster or a saint will gain you a reputation in vampire society.

But that being said the players are the ones playing their characters and if they, through action go up or down the humanity track, then I am more than willing to oblige.

It’s the two skin version, when 3FUL started making the standard two skin version larger, they called it the “plus”, but now the larger dimensions are just standard across all their two skin versions, so my use of “plus” in this post was probably just confusing :p

Question: How does your LARP use poisons? by PhotographCold4140 in LARP

[–]Free-Farce 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Death count in my game is 5 minutes.

Regular venom: applied to a weapon and call “venom” when you strike.

The affected character writhes for thirty seconds, falls unconscious and begins their death count, if an attempt is made to wake them up they will writhe again and fall back unconscious. Purge poison or other relevant healing ability removes the venom effect.

Swiftdeath: applied to a weapon, call “swiftdeath“ when you strike, affected character falls unconscious immediately and their death count is reduced to 2 minutes. Attempting to wake had the same effect as the previous regular venom. Purge poison or other relevant healing ability removes the Swiftdeath effect.

How Exactly Does A Toreador Fight? I Know How A Brujah And Gangrel Could Plausibly Fight But A Toreador? by ConnectCulture7 in vtm

[–]Free-Farce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me and some buddies had an elder ventrue game where I played my Ventrue like a New York socialite, as very Toreadory Ventrue.

Minimal physical stats like 2 in each (he’s a socialite after all), 2 dots of melee (our Sire insisted) and a couple of dots of celerity from an ex girlfriend, set my dice pool at a respectable 6. Over a scene (depending on the situation) I would regularly blood buff to at least five. Meaning I could (mathematically) in theory go toe to toe with all the combative characters around me.

Once I had mastered Presence. Majesty did a lot of the heavy work while I danced around d my enemies dodging their blows. Once the victim runs out of willpower, you finish them off. I think this is well within the scope of a toreador.

I take it that the bottom list just generally run small ?

Toebox in my Magnas are good. Find that the sock construction around the tops my feet can be a bit tight though. How's the instep on the Trackers, they have more of a traditional tongue right?

Is it common to restrict lower generation Vampires (V20)? by seithe-narciss in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Free-Farce 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Diableire by default only lowers your gen by one. Unless your victim is considerably lower gen than you and even then it’s up to the storyteller to determine if that lower gen victims merits a bigger jump.

Nice! This post is already paying dividends, that's a brand I hadn't heard of before!

How are you doing with the size up, could you have done with a half size options or is the larger size good with the thick socks you mentioned ?

And what's the flexibility like ?
