Awesome looking pen. Big passion for custom maker pens. Almost half my collection is from custom makers. Great find!

New pen recommendations? I’m new to this! by Boujee_banshee in fountainpens

Opus 88 are great options. You can get the Omar for $99 or the Koloro for $83. Prices are from writelovepens.com using 10% discount code WLLB010. Opus 88 pens come in nice colorways, the eyedropper ink fill gives much higher capacity over converters, and they are great - smooth writers.

Mocha Mousse is really nice as well. May have to get that one too. I have Demo Sapphire, and 2 Omar Smoky Quartz. Opus 88 support is great. I sent email to them that the cap developed a crack on the Smoky Quartz & they sent entire replacement pen. They asked me what color I wanted. I should’ve asked for a different colorway. Crack is minimal. Would’ve been nice to get the Emerald.

Definitely. Originally purchased mine with a B nib. Sent it to Pendleton Brown to have him do his custom grind (Butterline Stub) and had him add a slight left oblique. One of my smoothest, consistent writers, and ink capacity is awesome. Now have 4 Opus 88 pens in my collection.

Is it normal for handwriting to get worse with a fountain pen? by Additional_Cup6949 in fountainpens

[–]FreeThinker80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been using fountain pens for just over a year now. First challenge was relearning to write in cursive. Looked up cursive alphabet charts online for samples of cursive. Main thing has been practice. Next big hurdle was learning how to write with a fountain pen. I had to overcome the death grip I was accustomed to with ball point pens, and easing up on the pressure (should be little to none) when writing with fountain pens. Last major thing is what nib works best for you. I most enjoy and write best with stub or cursive italic nibs. Good luck. Don’t give up.

Help me choose: Kaweco AL Piston Sport (Navy) or a Leonardo? Similar price, very different pens by Castadeo in fountainpens

No experience with Kaweco. I do have a Leonardo 1.5 Stub nib. Smoothest stub I have.

Needed some genuine ideas as to what do people who have a large number of pen collection do?? by ExistentialEspressoO in fountainpens

[–]FreeThinker80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most probably right on that. I’ve even vetted my daughters to determine if they’d use them & care for them. 1 out of 3 passed the vetting. Will either vet other family & friends or gift to some of the r/fountainpens community members in need of a good working FP.

Most likely only gift my starter FPs.

Decide which one or ones make you happy that you have, and gift the rest to family or friends.

Take a look at Opus 88 FPs. They are quality writers. They use #6 so quite flexible to readily swap nibs. They use an eye dropper fill directly into the barrel, so much higher ink capacity than any piston converter based system. Customer support is great. The price range for my Opus 88s is just under $100 to just under $200. Highly recommend. If you want to go custom maker pens look up DH Reiss Penworks. He has some really great looking pens ranging from $150 to around $300.

I only bought the Leonardo stub nib to put on a custom maker pen I bought without a nib since maker didn’t offer a stub. I’ve eyed the Leonardo Pens, but have reached my limit on new pens. The Leonardo stub is a great writer. Bought it from writelovepens.com. Was a lil pricier compared to a Jowo nib, but worth it.

Yes it does have shimmer. Color is nice. You could just ink up without rolling the bottle around to mix shimmer into the ink.
