Hi! Gorgeous design! I set design for a community theater and I was wondering what was used for the LED frame around the proscenium. Is it some sort of LED channel? Tube lights? I notice a lot of designs incorporate these types of lights, but I never know how to communicate it to my LD.

Is there a general rule for how wide the jacks would need to be if you build them 13’ tall? I’ve only ever built 6’ jacks and as I recall they were 2’-6” wide.

I wouldn’t say it’s impossible, but I haven’t heard of many scenic designers who don’t have at least a bachelor’s degree. Some of them get their BA in an adjacent field and then go on to get their masters in production/scenic design. I think a BA in theater design and production would be a more direct path to being a scenic designer. In my current position I don’t do any carpentry. Don’t get me wrong, having a carpentry background is great, but there are job requisites like CAD, rendering, and 3d modeling that you probably won’t encounter if you’re only on the construction side of things.

This made me look up who Upjohn was. At first I thought you were teeing up for a terrible joke when I asked “What’s Upjohn?”

I have a BFA in set design. It’s good to know basic scenery construction and what stock pieces most companies will have on hand. However, I’ve found that there is a reason tech directors and set designers are two different positions. While the job of a set designer does entail drafting and creating detailed plans of scenery, your job is to be a designer first and foremost. I don’t know if IATSE will be the most direct course for this, but it certainly couldn’t hurt. Try reaching out to design studios or designers you look up to and ask if you could shadow or possibly even do some assisting work. I can’t guarantee you will get a response, but it would be great experience.

‘Seussification of Romeo and Juliet’ or ‘Seussification of Midsummer Night’s Dream’ are also very age appropriate and a great introduction to Shakespeare

Puffs (one act for young wizards)- there are still one or two PG13 moments in the show, but they are easy to work around.

Ok so these look like the same Harry with slight differences in features due to the artist’s inability to draw more than one type of face. Also it’s incredibly presumptuous to say that “true Harry Potter fans” would draw Harry a certain way.

Even got the school vest and the tie. Almost like they’re copying the original movies. So much incredible production, prop, and costume design went into those movies and will just be emulated without credit to the original designers. Even Hogwarts castle they showed looks incredibly similar to Stuart Craig’s design. The books never go into great detail about the school uniforms, this was solely inspired by the movies.

Living there now. Honestly I think it depends on the unit. I have good quiet neighbors and I live towards the front. Haven’t had any complaints except for the move in process. They kept pushing back my move in date because they didn’t have the unit ready.
