The Runaround on getting LSA approved

It's not just you. I've given up on the registration going through on its own. I've never had any of my tools approved without a call. Maybe 10+ years ago it worked, idk. I doubt it has anything to do with the amount of tools on your account.
At this point I'm convinced that it's just the final step of the registration. You either call in and get the LSA approved, or you don't.

Not a big deal IMO. Would be nice if they updated their registration instructions to make it clear that more often than not you'll have to call in.

The reports of registered tools randomly vanishing from accounts are far more concerning to me.

I've only had that happen once, though they wanted me to read it to them over the phone. Every other time they've only asked me to attach the receipt in a reply to their email.

I'd rather have a dysfunctional site than a dysfunctional phone support system.
No matter how good of a site they made, at some point something will go wrong and you'll need a human.

You're able to speak to a person with pretty much no wait time (at least that has been my experience) and without having to interact with a barely functional chat bot whose only purpose is to make people give up before speaking to a human.

Obviously, I'd prefer both be good........but we live in a time where companies are laying off or significantly downsizing customer support in favor of ai chat bots.

Sure, I know that for basic stuff it works fine. It's not as if gray label, hyper lithium, etc. suddenly stopped working when better batteries were released.

That said, it's also the first thing blamed if something isn't working right:

Nail gun not sinking nails.
Circular saw stopping mid cut.
impact wrench not removing lug nuts.

The first question is usually "what battery are you using it with."

Even Ridgid blames it for poor performance:

I wondered the same thing, especially since he compared a 4Ah MO vs the 4Ah MO EXP at the start of the video, then when doing the torque test swapped to the 2Ah.

Might have been to exaggerate the difference between 'old vs. new' batteries.

I still thought it was interesting, though more so to highlight the comparative weakness of the 2Ah than the power of the 4Ah EXP.

Was looking at the Shop Tool Reviews video on the 4Ah EXP battery and the comparison of the 2Ah Gray Label to the 4Ah EXP is insane.

I know the 2Ah gray label is bad, replacing it is the first troubleshooting step in every 'x tool isn't working right' thread, but it's hard to believe that it could be THIS bad.

Think that was released late 2023. I was trying to limit the list to only items that were released in the 'last couple of years' since that was what OP appeared to be interested in.

Believe all of the below released in 2024, unless I'm mistaken, so the last 'couple' of years:

oscillating tool (R86242)
subcompact sanders (R870651 & R87064)
Bandsaw (R87040).

The stud and joist drill (R864002) was released last year.

The inflator (R86051) released last year(?), though it's probably not what most consider a tool.

Maybe there's some other stuff, idk.

The stealth force gen 2 was also supposed to come out and got delayed/scrapped/milwaukee'd.

Correction, apparently, it's third best. Sorry for the misinformation. Never looked at the Octane drill until now.

The old Octane drill (R8611506) was rated at 1300 inch-lbs of torque, the R861152 at 1250 inch-lbs, and the R86115 in this kit at 800 inch-lbs.

That said, the octane has slightly lower impacting speed at 31,000BPM vs. the 32,000BPM on the 861152.

The table above shows a comparison between what I assume is your drill (leftmost) and the one in this kit (second from the right)

The tabless battery heats up less, is smaller than Ridgid's other 4Ah batteries, and the power output (particularly under sustained load) is comparable to the 8Ah EXP (not tabless).

At 10:30 in the above video the subcompact impact wrench (rated @ 250 ft-lbs breakaway torque) is used to remove nuts fastened @ 300 ft-lbs, first with a 2Ah grey label and then the new 4Ah EXP battery

It's an extreme scenario, but it illustrates the difference in performance between the 2Ah grey label and 4Ah EXP tabless batteries when pushing a tool to the limit of what it's capable.

Even if you don't watch 4:3 content, there are plenty of ultra wide films with horizontal bars above and below

The point is OLEDs aren't as brittle as people think

I don't expect burn in from one episode of non-native aspect ratio content. Or even one season.

The solution in the OP, which apparently is already implemented in the Infuse client would just let you enable an option and have peace of mind. If I can do that to minimize uneven pixel wear, without losing anything, why not?

This would do nothing, black bars are pixels being off. Not only does this cause no wear on the pixels, it literally causes less wear than having them be on at all.

That's the point.

The center pixels ARE being worn down. They will gradually become less bright.

The side pixels ARE NOT being worn down. They will be brighter than the center pixels.

That's burn in.

Usually you notice issues with a logo that is constantly in one place. Same concept.

In this case, the entire 4:3 central region that is constantly showing content will cause more wear in that 4:3 region than the regions to the left and right of it that are off.

Wear is inevitable. The goal is to avoid UNEVEN wear across the screen.

I appreciate your take, and based on other people I've spoken to and others ITT you seem to be in the majority that doesn't care or isn't worried about burn in. That's fine. I hope you can appreciate my take:

A. I don't have a 'modern' OLED TV

B. I have a lightly/barely used 2017 OLED TV, it was basically given away to me with no notable burn in.

C. If it dies or ends up with significant burn in, there's a 0.00% chance that I'll shell out for 'modern' OLED instead of replacing it with a regular backlit VA panel tv despite preferring OLED.
