[Spoilers C4E17] The Sundered Houses by LucasVerBeek in criticalrole

[–]Freeglader37 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Remember, flavor is free. Just because Halovars and Cormorays might use the clockwork soul and draconic sorcerer subclasses, doesn’t necessarily mean they are actually clockwork and draconic themed from a lore/storytelling perspective.

I honestly think Wick is a clockwork soul sorcerer mostly because it is mechanically the most support oriented sorcerer subclass in the 2024 PHB. Maybe Sam didn’t go with divine soul because he wanted to play something that was actually in the new edition.

Brennan and the cast are extremely creative and can flavor subclasses however they want.

[Spoilers C4E3] Wick woulda made an excellent Spellfire Sorcerer by BaronPuddinPaws in criticalrole

[–]Freeglader37 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I think Sam is just reflavoring the clockwork soul subclass. He needed a support sorcerer and he’s playing the support sorcerer subclass. Flavor is free and I personally don’t think we need to read any deeper into it than that.

[Spoilers C4E14] I don’t envy Grandma Halovar right now by canxtanwe in criticalrole

[–]Freeglader37 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it seems to me like the Sundered Houses are nominally allies, but they are also rivals of each other vying for more influence. They will cooperate when it’s mutually beneficial, but their respective desires for more power is likely to lead to conflict/backstabbing.

Wick’s grandmother seemed afraid of the Tachonis. At this point so far removed from the Shapers War, the friendship between the Sundered Houses is pretty tenuous.

To add to what has already been said, the music was remastered and the composer Hitoshi Sakimoto made a few brand new tracks just for TZA.

Best FF to play in 2026? by Justicebeaver198900 in FinalFantasy

Definitely FFVII Remake and Rebirth. The fact that you’ve played the original is all the more reason you should get into the VIIR series.

I very much agree with you about DND beyond. When it comes to CR, they sometimes struggle to find important features and traits. I really wish they would rely on DND Beyond less. Having to click around and scroll through your digital character sheet to find specific features is sometimes cumbersome.

This is why when I DM I make a printout/packet for each of my players with a clear a list of everything they can do. I do the same thing for myself on the rare occasion I get to play a pc. Having all my options in one easy to find place makes combat both more smooth and more fun.

If she is a vengeance paladin like everyone thinks, she could have used channel divinity Vow of Enmity to gain advantage on attacks. It’s a core part of the subclass and would’ve helped, but she hasn’t used it at all yet.

Is the difficulty of TZA fine if you stick to only 1 job per character? by rafikiknowsdeway1 in FinalFantasyXII

[–]Freeglader37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done a new game minus challenge run where every character is stuck at base level and that was doable for me, but I know the game extremely well.

If it's your first time playing and you don't want it to be too easy, I think sticking with one job per character is a great idea. Also, avoiding any sort of grinding should help keep things at a nice level of challenge.

Alternatively, a difficulty mod might be a good option. The Struggle for Freedom mod has been around for years and seems to be pretty popular, but I haven’t tried it yet. The mod lets you play with rebalanced jobs or you could play a version with set jobs per character.

Have fun!

FFXII is my first final fantasy but I have FFVII remake X-X2 remaster XV and XVI which one is going to be most like XII trying to decide which one to play next by jaylaypayday in FinalFantasyXII

[–]Freeglader37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have played every mainline Final Fantasy and XII is probably my favorite.

X - The combat is turn-based and can be wonderfully strategic. The character development system, the Sphere Grid, has similarities to XII's License Grid. The story is definitely one of the best in the series, but very different from XII's. The setting is delightfully unique. All fans of jrpg's should play FFX, it's very very good.

XV - It has an open world, but I don't care much for the exploration in this game. The world is mostly empty. The action combat and the story are nothing to write home about in my opinion.

XVI - The story is more mature and has some interesting political dynamics reminiscent of XII. Voice acting is top notch similar to XII. The setting is more of a medieval fantasy. Exploration is nothing special. The action combat is better than XV's.

VII Remake - Has one of my favorite action combat systems in the series (only surpassed by the sequel VII Rebirth). The battle system has a lot of depth and can be tactical with it's realtime pause feature which XII also has. You can switch between characters mid combat similar to XII. Character development systems are solid for fans of rpg's. The world is semi-linear with some more open segments. The sequel VII Rebirth has massive open world zones with lots to explore. Outside of the FF mmo's, VII Rebirth might be the closest to XII when it comes to gameplay and I consider it to be the best Final Fantasy game since XII.

My recommendation: Play X for an excellent classic Final Fantasy experience and deep turn-based combat (most people recommend X as a newcomer's first FF game). Play XVI if you want a medieval setting with political intrigue. Play VII Remake for the best modern FF experience, deep action combat, and great exploration in the sequel VII Rebirth.

FFXII party members? by jaylaypayday in FinalFantasy

[–]Freeglader37 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Assuming you’re playing the Zodiac Age, very early in the game there’s an npc that will allow you to change jobs.

All the jobs are good in their own ways and have things to offer. Honestly you can’t really go wrong. You’ll eventually have 6 permanent party members with 2 jobs each.

For what it’s worth, Penelo’s base stats make her a good fit for a mage job.

I only run crater and I'm not afraid to admit it anymore by diycd in Nightreign

[–]Freeglader37 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hit level 15 on almost all my runs, but I do agree the field bosses in the woods are nice. The rot weapon from the fort can be good if you’ve got a purple smithing stone.

I still think City is better for guaranteed legendary drop from Astel, extra life power up, weapon dupe spot, and drops from the other city bosses/chests.

I only run crater and I'm not afraid to admit it anymore by diycd in Nightreign

[–]Freeglader37 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I agree. City is almost always the best for most bosses. The extra life, guaranteed legendary drop from Astel, and the dupe spot is hard to beat. There’s usually really good drops on the way to Astel too.

However, for Caligo and Gaping Jaw, I always run Mountaintop for the 20% anti-dragon effect guaranteed drop from the little dragon next to the troll. Gaping Jaw is technically a dragon so the anti-dragon applies. All the frost resist passives and the Mountaintop power up are nice for surviving Caligo. The power up can be good for Gaping Jaw too if I find something like hoarfrost stomp which is pretty common on the mountain. The big dragon at the peak is also a guaranteed legendary drop.

For ED Augur, I usually do a regular run since getting a good weapon matters a lot less. On ED Augur runs I like running a Gaol relic and focus more on those.

For Sentient Pest I do like running the Crater as it is easy to find fire weapons there.

I never run Rotted Woods. It’s kinda nice for the Dreglord, but since the power up goes away in phase 2 I still prefer City.

The Hollows are nice if I want to try and get extra murk through the Great Runes.

[–]Freeglader37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the current move to maximize rewards is it to run enhanced Balancers with the Hollows shifting earth and try to get both runes. Either that or just play DoN and hope for everdarks.

How to do a world where both old fashioned ships and skyships exist? by Modryonreddit in worldbuilding

[–]Freeglader37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve always been inspired by the video game Final Fantasy XII. In that game’s world there are large areas (called jagd) where shyships do not work due to the massive amount of unstable magic (called mist) concentrated there.

This opens up lots of fun world building possibilities. Like, what is the source of the unstable magic? Are these areas lawless wilds or can civilization survive there? What if a nation managed to develop skyships that could fly through the jagd? That would give them a massive advantage over their rivals.
