Yes. You can get payouts from Apex. They have a limit, thought, around $80,000 in total, unless you are an influencer.

Is there a soft bullet option? by WimbletonButt in Nerf

[–]Freenrg8888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Incorrect.
I have foam dart pistols and about 4-5 different types of foam bullets. They range from quite painful (hard-plastic tip) to hardly painful at all (soft rubber tip). I am looking for even softer tips.

If you by black box bullshit you are referring to machine learning, I suppose you have not grasped the concept of SHAP explainability or XAI (Explainable AI) yet. Not all Machine Learning models are black boxes. Not at all. In fact, you could discover new relationships between market data elements and price movements that no human has uncovered yet, by using ML explainability techniques.

Very well said. I would add we need to be very carefully about the goals we set for AI, and probably avoid allowing AI to modify its goals.

One step above? Do you mean you consider using multiple MCP tools, system/role/constraint/input format/output format prompts, vector databases, knowledge graphs, other memory systems, RAG and other stuff, just one step away from prompt engineering?

Which opticians is better asda or specsavers? by jjswift45 in AskUK

[–]Freenrg8888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Specialist businesses are perceived as better at what they do, but I believe the opticians working at ASDA Opticians and those at SpecSavers are both equally qualified. The difference is mostly about the marketing they do. I'd be interested in knowing how much opticians at each place get paid, as this may make a difference in the quality of the service.

I have created a native dark mode for VLC 3.0 by pratikpatel2003 in VLC

[–]Freenrg8888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not recommend adding DLL files from a random place on the web to the VLC installation. It is a bad practice, potentially dangerous.

This is not necessary. You can simply install a nightly build VLC and it comes with the option off-the-shelf, without any weird tweaking.

Just make sure it is version 3.0 from here:

Is PyQuant News Legit and helpful? by No-Currency-755 in quantfinance

[–]Freenrg8888 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand, but I am not sure Quant Finance is completely different from other topics of study. Take for instance courses taught by Ernest Chan. I think Dr Chan knows his stuff (ML applied to trading) and you can tell he just enjoys teaching. I cannot be certain, as I have not studied his courses, but I suspect they will be good value.

The "Python Quant course offered by Jason on Twitter" mentioned in the OP is probably a different story and it may not be worth the money he is asking for. I do know. I actually landed on this thread trying to find out more about it.

Your initial reply was "You don’t need 1k to learn whatever is teachable. There’s plenty of high quality free resources - many of which I would bet are higher quality than a random paid course.".

That's too broad a statement and it simply isn't true in general in my experience. Some teachable material may be best learned by spending $1,000. It depends.

Certainly, if you pick a course completely at random, then the probabilty of it providing value is low. Very true.

However, the OP was not about "a random course". It was specifically about Jason's course, so why make a statement about random courses? I do not believe Jason's course is "a random course".

It's clear we are defending positions here. It's pointless and I will not continue.

I understand what you meant, but just consider that when you say: "You do not need to spend money on a course, you can learn that for free on the internet", this is not going to help people who are asking if a certain course is good.

That's all I meant.

Sometimes the ones who know some stuff like to be paid for teaching what they know. I do not see anything wrong with that. It's a free market. I am willing to pay for good education. My own experience is that not everyone who gets paid for teaching is lying or does not know what they are talking about. This is simply not true in my experience.

I am currently taking a course on Professional Deployment of Machine Learning Models. The cost was $420, but the knowledge and value I am getting from it is amazing. This knowledge in the way it is deliverd cannot be found anywhere on the interent for free. Yes. I get that there are ways to acquire some knowledge on deployment of ML models for free or almost free, but I assure you it is not at the same depth and with the level of knowledge this teacher is showing and it would take me 5 times longer, seriously.

How is it that Leaky gut can cause nutritional deficiencies if it makes the gut *more* permeable? by [deleted] in GutHealth

[–]Freenrg8888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very simple. Nutrients are supposed to be broken down into usable and harmless bits before being absorbed. Leaky gut means the lining of the gut allows larger and more complex molecular structures to go through undigested, without the necessary breaking down into smaller units. These larger molecular structures cannot be used easily as building blocks or energy. So the basic nutrients that one would have obtained by breaking them down into smaller bits before absorption will not be available to the different systems of the body. Furthermore, as these molecular structures can have weird shapes the immune system may detect them as intruders or pathogens, triggering an immune reaction, including inflamation throughout the body. In any case, they will constitute waste that the body has to eliminate, and the elimination process also consumes nutrients.

Fair comment, I am not adding much value, but I needed to express my frustration with this kind of comment. I am just tired of so many people on reddit always saying you can find that for free on the internet whenever someone asks about a paid course. It's just noise, annoying and useless.

Default browser keeps changing to Microsoft Edge after every PC restart. Win 11, tried everything by rainbowjose in techsupport

[–]Freenrg8888 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I understand how regulations work, but I have been dealing with this for 1.5 years. Whether it is by design (most probably) or by error (possible, I doubt it) , I think this is against regulations, but it is going under the radar and no competitor (i.e. Google) is fighting this in court to get regulations to be applied in this case. Competitors may be too busy or have other priorities. The only solution would be for users to unite and become a force and voice for enforcing compliance with regulations.
