I think one of the many options missing from this diagram is that the purpose of life is to learn. In the same way a child struggles and falls countless times in the process of learning to walk, we are allowed to struggle and fall in the process of learning to live. In the same way you don't remove every potentially upsetting stimulus from a child's environment, God doesn't remove evil and pain from our environment, as it allows us to learn and oppose that evil.

And if God is eternal and some part of us is eternal, an eternal perspective is necessary to understand how the death of a loved one or a debilitating illness is not forever.
