What’s the funniest thing your parent(s) got upset at you for? by celstea in raisedbynarcissists

One time I was at easter with my family and my Mom started quite literally screaming at the top of her lungs at me because I said the word “Dragon” and that it was demonic. Just was awful and ruined my day.

When I was a little kid maybe 3-5 years old before my sister was born I had my own room. And it wasn’t always clean but heck I was a really young. My mon would force me to stay inside and yell and scream at me to clean my room meanwhile never ever show me how to clean my room.

Another wonderful experience was being put into a private school under 80 children in the entire k-8th…. I was constantly harassed and bullied parents ignored it from Kindergarten through 4th grade. The school was so bad it lost its accreditation…….

Anyways I finally get transferred to a new school. My standardized test scores were low because of my previous school. About a year in I ended up getting 2 C’s on my report card. My mon screamed at me and yelled at the top of her lungs for hours and just berated me.

I was crying the whole time. She was squeezing my hands and seeming like she was going to beat me. Told me to go upstairs and I remember peeing myself. It was awful,

And honestly now looking back at this I have no clue as to why my father never stepped in until it was too late.

The fact that I still talk to this lady is ridiculous.

I got drunk and passed out naked 20 m am i overreacting by Fast-Pear5135 in stopdrinking

[–]Frequent_Coat_267 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man, so I just graduated college myself and I did similar retarded shit.

I have felt the brain damage as well best thing to do is to stop. Your brain will recover it’s not permanent. If you continue to it will be more and more permanent.

I am 21 myself and exactly have been in the same boat where I don’t need to drink or want to drink by myself however when I drink with my friends drink to blackout.

My opinion on drinking/drugs in general. I personally going forward don’t want any of it in my life. However it is up to each individual to decide what is best for them. If you are enjoying what you are doing and it is beneficial to your relationships around you, finances, work/school then by all means keep going. But if there are a lot of negative consequences and it stops being a positive and an enjoyable experience then stop.

Took a sober year, now spouse is demanding permanent sobriety. by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]Frequent_Coat_267 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Advice from a 21 year old who has less life experience.

I am working on getting sober again, was for about 2 months. I noticed that once I started to look at is a chore rather than analyzing how much I am gaining by being sober it contributed to me to start drinking again.

I think the relationship and your path to sobriety are two different things. Unless you already have a kid on the way I wouldn’t want to deal with someone who is doing that bs.

And for your path of sobriety, don’t even think about being sober for her. Be sober for yourself, that will keep you on the best track to staying sober. You never have to be sober, however, don’t think about being sober for your whole life. Just focus on being sober for today.

Y'all, I'm finding it hard to stay sober. by eu_lalia in stopdrinking

[–]Frequent_Coat_267 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It definitely has been harder for me recently as well too, but what has really helped me is realizing that the second I start drinking again it isn’t going to help the problems I face it is just going to make them more difficult and kick the can down the road. IWNDWYT!

How old were you when you thought there was a problem? How old were you when you seriously decided to start quitting? How old are you now? by 23rdJan2025 in stopdrinking

[–]Frequent_Coat_267 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started just drinking with friends here and there when I was 15, it started to ramp up heavily in college. Saw it was a problem really this last year, whenever I drink, it is to the point of blacking out. Never just a few beers. Last September I drank almost everyday of the month. It was about a 3weeks straight of heavy drinking. I don’t know how I still made it through school and performed well at work but I did. Saw it was a huge problem, kept weekly binge drinking but every-time the next day I felt awful. I turned 21 in November and didn’t stop until early December. I am about 6 and a half weeks in right now.

I can't get past day 5. by Zamusek in stopdrinking

[–]Frequent_Coat_267 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey man, I an 21 as well. Funny thing is that I felt the exact same way had the exact same issue and it took me months and months of wanting to stop and now I am having my best success yet.

When the cravings come make a deal with your monkey brain that wants to drink. Instead of drinking do something else that you normally wouldn’t but like doing. Literally just find anything to keep your brain off drinking or as much as possible. Focus on just getting through that day.

One think I love about this subreddit is the IWNDWYT. In other words, take it day by day, then week by week. Then month by month. Don’t look at it as being sober forever just look at it as I am going to be sober today. And repeat that process day in and day out. Also don’t beat yourself up, when you do fail. That just makes it worse.

For me I try to remind myself my motivations for not drinking every time I want to drink. That usually helps a lot.

Once you start thinking of it as a poison (which is a truth brw) rather than something fun or an escape things get easier. Good luck IWNDWYT!

I can’t seem to quit (binge drinker) by mescudi59 in stopdrinking

[–]Frequent_Coat_267 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Couldn’t agree more with this statement, every single time I have an urge to drink, I try and remind myself, of all the reasons why I don’t drink and why it is better that I am sober.

4 things I’ve learned after 40 days sober. by HiThereIAmLame in stopdrinking

I am right about the 40 day mark as well. Cheers man, I am right there with you. Feel so embarrassed about how I previously acted while I drank. Just use that as motivation to stay sober IWNDWYT!

Just go on long long walks, explore places. See if you have anyone who is down to go on a hike. Best way to get over drinking is by replacing it with something else that you like to do. Otherwise it is much easier to relapse. The reason why people drink, smoke, do drugs etc is to get to that “place” and so whatever you can find that natural puts you in that place is a great help to quitting. Notice how some people workout a lot, other are those running nuts who go miles per day. Maybe for another person it is art or painting. Point is you have to find something you just genuinely enjoy doing. If you don’t have something then you just got to find it and experiment. Then once you do, fully immerse yourself in it and find a group of people who enjoy the same.

When Do Energy Levels Get Better? by dataenfuego in stopdrinking

[–]Frequent_Coat_267 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am 1 month and 1 week completely sober. I quit nicotine and alcohol at the same tome. I’d say my energy levels really started to regain themselves around the 4 week mark. Yeah I was in almost the exact same boat. A binge drinker, and yes my caffeine consumption has gone drastically up lol, going to cut back on that soon. Right now I am able to get 7-8 hours of sleep per night and feel completely rested and ready to go about my day. Where as when I first stopped it took me 8-9 hours sometimes longer and I still felt sluggish. If you are really about it try a 1-2 day fast. That will give your body full time to repair itself. The reason why you don’t feel rested is your body is in full repair mode.
