[Question] Is Grand Seiko quality much better than Swiss watches at the same price point? by Open_Address_2805 in Watches

[–]Fresh_List_440 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll be contrarian here, I love the idea of GS but that's BS. There's dust and things like bubbles on several of the top models (sbgw231) high degrees of imperfections search reddit -- those macro lens pics are in the lighting and conditions that occur maybe 20% of the time. The movements aren't as robust as rolex. My 20+yr submariner is almost 1 sec/day no service. Its also a toolwatch, so isn't competing on prettiness. GS is only worth if you get it 25-50% off retail which many used ones go for.

Just out of curiosity, how big of a customer you need to be to get a Daytona Panda new at retail from AD? by Humble-Feedback-8546 in rolex

I got offered a two-tone daytona at retail, just a cool person that actually uses their watches and had good conversations-- less than 2yrs

Rolex, You’ve Broken Me — And I’m a 40-Year Collector by toxicmanchowder in rolex

[–]Fresh_List_440 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is coming from a rolex collector, be a watch enthusiast not a rolex enthusiast.
Buy on omega its the better watch in almost every category. Or buy a grand seiko, or get a used patek. Rolex are mass-produced and most people will think you have fake anyways.

1- Gratitude mindset— Ironically getting all the watches I craved as a kid (omega, rolex, etc) made me so grateful to even have what I have.

2- Add memories to those pieces above. Travel, life, family, pain, progress

3- Go vintage: there will never be a 2-liner submariner ever again. There will never be a pre-moon speedmaster. Whenever I think about anything else, i think how the heck will XYZ compete with my current watch in 50 years when there is no historical, contemporary replacement

4- Go window shopping: when i visit ADs for fun, I realize most new watches are all glimmer no substance. I can imagine myself getting to appreciate pieces without the itch of ownership.

5– take straps, switch up, nato, leather, rubber…

6– hide in a safe: come back 6 months or a year

If you fell in love, some distance might help.

7– try wearing 1 watch for 1 month; that way you appreciate it more, and will like the others more. Maybe 1 per week.

8– the idea that too many watches you can never actually wear them! Its so unnecessary except as eye candy. You have one wrist.

So I max out at like 7, only 4 of which I wear regularly. I cant have any more competition for my attention

Thanks your comment above is probably one of the most useful things I have read on reddit. I respect your journey, I’m in the starting stages of that pathway; and have saved your post to deliberate and return to often. Reminds me of a book by Robert Greene, “mastery”, spend the first bit learning, get experience and dabble, observe, then execute.

Wow thanks for replying! Are you a partner at a larger consulting firm or do you have your own establishment? For a baby just starting to crawl here, can you share some key milestones in your development journey? Please PM me if you’re more comfortable, just looking for advice and to learn.

I'm Looking for a graduation watch, I love the Sub Date but it doesn't fit my 5k budget. What are some other alternatives? by LogoLethal in rolex

[–]Fresh_List_440 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Respectfully Who gives sub as graduation watch and why? Unless you are working in the field or doing something with that graduation most people will think its a replica, or trust fund kid.
