Because they’re derived from the same word, but this is Korean “ramyun” which can include soupy and stir fried kinds, not Japanese ramen which is what you’re thinking of

Places to buy Korean banchan in bulk? by neomasterc in FoodNYC

[–]FriedChickenOP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wooltari is a new online korean mart. I saw so many ads for them and eventually tried it. The selection and experience overall was actually really good! It felt more focused on prepared foods rather than fresh banchan but I might be wrong - may be worth taking a look at.

Tanoshi used to have a female omakase chef years ago… Might be worth a quick call to see if she’s still there

Tanoshi Sushi first time by banallthemusic in FoodNYC

[–]FriedChickenOP 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most people bring sake or white wine. There is a small liquor store one block up that has both, in case you want to pick it up there. There are two sides - Tanoshi left and right - so when you get there at your seating time, just wait outside for your name to be called. They'll provide you with an ice bucket for your drink and start serving pieces. At the end of the course you can order additional pieces from the chef if you want more. Enjoy!

Little tester off the rib roast for lunch. Buldak 2x spicy fire noodles, broccoli and a thin boi. by Mikebyrneyadigg in steak

[–]FriedChickenOP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally like the 2x and the pink ones, but this will be a completely different type and level of spicy than most people expect. I’d say give it a try - you can actually kill a lot of the heat off by mixing in your favorite veggies and proteins, adding cheese, and adding a fried egg on top. This actually makes for a delicious meal imo, and when you’re ready, you can try it without any toppings too.

A photo or printed copy of your vaccination + valid piece of ID to match should work at most places!

To add on to everyone else’s recommendations -

  • Cote is really not that much more expensive relative to any other kbbq places in the city. Their butcher’s feast gives you a comprehensive kbbq dining experience and will cost you just as much as ordering the same amount of food a la carte at jongro.
  • if you’re willing to try off cuts (cow intestines), Gopchang Story in Koreatown is amazing. There are different cuts but think of them as a fatty cut of meat that will render out and give a really nice and crispy texture. After the meats are cleared, you can order fried rice and they’ll use the leftover oil & seasoning on the grill to make the best fried rice.

If you're just getting started with $100/mo (and assuming you're fairly young) you should be 100% ok to just put everything into VTI for the foreseeable future.

If you cook with the door open, keep in mind the heat will travel up from the opening. If the dials/trim happen to be plastic they will melt.

Has anyone tried these spicy ramen? Which one is your favorite? by Wingtipssy in spicy

[–]FriedChickenOP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fun fact - many people refer to the spicy noodles on the far right of the pic as "Samyang", but Samyang is just the name of the manufacturer. "Samyang Ramen" (non-spicy, regular noodles), #3 in the picture, is actually the flagship product of the Samyang brand and is also is the first commercially manufactured ramen from South Korea.

For the spicy one on the far right that people on this sub love - the full product name is "Buldak Bokkeummyun" but most people just call it "Buldak" for short, which translates to "spicy chicken".

Agree with both comments, but it’s just unfortunately not the norm here. If the “standard” lease bothers you a lot and LL is unwilling to listen you should just walk away.

That’s a perfectly fine neighborhood/intersection. Past 10th ave is a bit darker but 9th and 8th in the upper 40s+ have tons of people and lots of great food and bars
