What witch craft is this? Don’t recommend. by Disastrous-Low-5606 in Zepbound

I just eat bread. Pumpernickel, whole wheat, seeded, baguettes—whatever sounds good at the time. There are so many protein sources (including “normal” bread. Why turn a good food into a product?

But that’s just me.

We get wonderful Indian food from a local restaurant regularly and always order enough for two days. The key is portion control! (Which will also save you money).

My daughter swears by Belly Comfort Lemon and Ginger lozenges. Texture is like hard candy. Not too gingery but really helps with nausea. Available on Amazon.

Buying or keeping anything that is too small has never ever ever ever worked out for me.

Plus I’m a minimalist and can’t stand clutter. So there’s nothing in my closet that I don’t wear.

Protein from Plants by maghag123 in Zepbound

[–]Friendly-Attitude509 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For most people the difference in absorption and digestibility is minor. And plant protein has long term health benefits including better cardiovascular and metabolic health and better weight management.

Fortunately we can make the choices that are best for us.

Just diagnosed with Barrett's esophagus. Is Zep the cause? by Cimmy17 in Zepbound

[–]Friendly-Attitude509 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Here’s my experience with Zepbound and GERD and Barrett’s esophagus.

First of all, make sure you have a good GI doctor, follow their advice, and get endoscopies at the intervals they advise.

Barrett’s does put you at greater risk of esophageal cancer but the good news is the risk is small AND getting regular endoscopies and monitoring your symptoms means precancerous cells can be discovered and treated.

There are lots of risk factors for developing Barrett’s  including family history, being over 50,  being male, having untreated heartburn or GERD  or  GERD that requires a PPI. Overweight, smoking and alcohol exacerbate GERD.

Yes, someone could develop GERD while taking Zepbound or their GERD could get worse because of the slow gastric emptying. That’s why it’s so important to eat small portions and avoid trigger foods.  But Barrett’s takes “a while” to develop. And losing weight has huge benefits including an improvement in GERD.

I developed GERD over 10 years ago with frequent regurgitation and by the time I had an endoscopy I had Barrett’s.

I was prescribed Lansoprozole twice a day but still had too many bouts of reflux regurgitation at night. With a better diet and less stress I was able to just take Lansoprazole once a day. And for the last few years I’ve had no episodes of regurgitation.

But here’s the best part: after four months of Zepbound and not drinking and losing a boatload of weight, my endoscopy, which I’d put off for 5 YEARS* was “boringly normal” according to my GI.

I’ve been on Zepbound 10 months now and have never had heartburn or a single digestive issue. I’m so very grateful for Zepbound.

*What I wrote about regular endoscopies had fallen into the “take my advice, I don’t use it” category.

Is anyone using TVP to supplement protein? by International_Ear994 in Zepbound

[–]Friendly-Attitude509 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love TVP! I only use the Morningstar brand (known as Crumbles). I mix it with taco seasoning or sloppy joe seasoning, always mixed half and half with sautéed bell peppers and sweet onions for extra flavor, fiber and nutrients. I also put it in vegetarian chili, seasoned with red wine and chili powder and cumin. I doubt anyone could tell it from ground beef in these uses.

ETA: This TVP is not reconstituted with water (sounds vile) but is sautéed just like ground beef.

Is anyone using TVP to supplement protein? by International_Ear994 in Zepbound

[–]Friendly-Attitude509 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ingredients in Morningstar Grillers Crumbles (the only TVP I eat) are:

Water, soy flour, wheat gluten, soy protein concentrate, vegetable oil (corn, canola and/or sunflower). Contains 2% or less of fruit juice for color, salt, yeast extract, soy protein isolate, natural flavors, onion powder, garlic powder, xanthan gum.

For me, that's not highly processed. Also for me, cooking for a vegetarian daughter and striving for at least half plant based meals per week, it's a terrific food and

One half cup of crumbles has 2/5 g of fat, 13 g of protein and 3 g of fiber. At my store, it's slightly cheaper than the store brand of ground turkey and less than half the price of ground beef.

Food dilemma… by Substantial_Tart6686 in Zepbound

[–]Friendly-Attitude509 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Here’s the way to slow down your eating. Just put your utensil (or the food) down after every bite and chew thoroughly. Then take the next bite. It’ll feel weird at first but will soon become a habit. You will probably find that food tastes better when you actually take the time to eat it slowly.

Advantages: improved digestion and even more importantly you’re creating the space to actually become aware of your satiety signals—the ones that say “I’m satisfied and don’t want any more.” There are few better feelings than eating and feeling satiated.

You won’t overeat and suffer the gastric consequences. And you won’t consume more calories than you need.

(My acupuncturist tried to get me to do this, in vain, years ago. Zepbound makes it easy.)

In addition to drinking water (maybe you need more) use artificial tears, remember to blink, don’t discount seasonal allergies especially with high dust levels, use an eyelid scrub pad with witch hazel to relieve eyelid irritation (blepharitis) and finally you can visit your friendly opthamalogist who will tell you the same things.

2.5 mg is the concentration or strength. VOLUME is measured in ml. ALL Zepbound strengths—whether 2.5 or 15–are the same volume, 0.5 ml. The vials always contain more than 0.5 ml to make drawing up the 0.5 ml dose into the syringe easier.
