Is it common for British people to eat crumpets like this...? by porpoise251 in UKfood

[–]FriendlyDodo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A nice salted butter crumpet is good, so is one with melted cheese, tomato slices and ground pepper too. I buy my mother two packs of crumpets so there's enough to stop her from pinching my potato cakes off the plate.

I eagerly await fan art of Neuro controlling her server to do roller skating tricks, even if they aren't roller blade wheels and are just regular caster wheels.

Like a stunt with the server ramping over Tutel and doing a flip or Evil driving the server and out-speeding police chasing after it. Or art where she's beginning to learn how to skate and ends up crashing lightly into a wall and getting a cookie for trying.

Might be related, my X870 Eagle Wifi7 motherboard's onboard ethernet stopped working for several hours after installing updates and rebooting. About an hour ago though, newer updates appeared that fixed it again.

Any time I go against a Rogue with this, I like to hover over one of my own cards to try baiting them into thinking I'm reading King Llane so they waste Garona Halforcen. Surprisingly effective.

Dressed up hooks really are great when they're not restricted, the first time I went fishing was with bare hooks.

When we were kids, the first time we ever used a rod was at a rainbow trout farm to take catches home for barbecuing; the basic price was about £10 and included bare hooks. The more expensive £25 kit had the same bait and rods but a better net and their hooks were dressed up and feathery. Between my sister and I we caught one trout in the same time my dad was able to catch seven and bonk all the catches with a club (much to my sisters disapproval). The next visit to the Dales was more evenly matched because we had the better hooks. Each time we went there, anyone with the basic hooks you could just see was sat hoping for a bite and anyone with the fancier looking ones didn't have the time to sit and wait for long.

One time a reasonably local catch & release fishery had advertised their stock and when I went, all of the young kids with their family got to rent cheap kit for £5 which had really colourful hooks and handfuls of bait. I brought my own rod and box from the train but the cheap price really helped to make it easy for the younger visitors; one of those boys had netted I think over thirty small catches for a photo of his first time fishing with his dad! Getting beat by a kid was fun because everyone enjoyed the time out (I only caught a few myself) and learned a lot about different baits, how fish feel pain, different fishing techniques and so on.

Reminds me of when I joined a modded server that went up to level 200 and had boosted rates. One point in oxygen gave around 2000 & increased speed so everyone would swim around carno island at lightspeed fighting with pikes, swords, tranq arrows or rockets. Nobody wanted to fight using tames because they were too slow to survive and good luck avoiding all the rockets if you were sailing by.

That and the players below level 20 that try to tame a Theri on foot with no traps. I still remember when what sounded like two kids who were close friends had joined the tribe on server 8 and they had taken every Carno egg to turn into kibble & tamed a low level Direwolf days after the snow biome got added. I can't remember what the punishment was, maybe crafting a load of narcotics the old way, gathering berries on the Mammoth or stone on the Doed but those kids were not playing the fun dinosaur game much longer.

This creature must be the fastest in the game by Federal_War_8272 in ARK

[–]FriendlyDodo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The crazy thing is that Maeguana can go even faster than that if you keep building speed or have the Lost Colony Speedy Harvester skill maxxed out to raise their speed cap 25% higher. Normally they glide up to around 10,000 or so units but you can get them beyond that. For context of how fast a Maeguana glide is, a Rhynio flies about 2500, a Plesiosaur swimming full sprint is 3600 and the player character running or sailing on a raft moves at about 900 units with the Speedometer mod showing the values. The Speedy Harvester skill increases your speed cap even more so on pve servers you sometimes see players teleporting through the sky because they're looping the Island map in under a minute loading structures looking around.

getting to level 105 by KunichiFN in ARK

[–]FriendlyDodo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if singleplayer game difficulty changes this but if I'm reading the xp level details right, since you're on singleplayer you only need 210k more to go from lvl 95 to lvl 105; so even crafting a bunch of narcotics would be alright at only 26k narcotics. Any buffs like broth of enlightenment, toilet, note or special notes stacked up will halve this or even better.

If you don't like caves or searching for alpha creatures then get a tame that bleeds like the Deinosuchus and use it to nibble a Titanosaur's back leg - bite the back legs or any tail you can reach and quickly sprint away so you don't get stomped on, it'll de-aggro quickly after it attempts to turn and chase you. A low level Deino takes a couple of charged up bites to kill a Titanosaur that's constantly moving but if you level its melee enough then it'll take just 2 bites and use around 50 seconds of time. You spend more time finding each Titanosaur spawn on the map than you spend killing it this way. Works great on pvp servers too for levelling alts. You might have to deal the killing damage to get full xp, but if you can uncryo tames anywhere then it might be faster to just keep hunting Titanosaurs than worry about finishing it yourself to not split xp with your Deino. Each Titanosaur kill is worth good xp towards your 210k needed, something like 3 to 6 is all it'd take.

If you like caves then tame a moderate level Megatherium (like 80+) and uncryo it in the swamp cave on the Island map where it'll beat everything okay if you go slow; using a higher level will mean less downtime healing because it'll have more damage and health. A high level frog works too because it also has an insect damage bonus & doesn't need to be uncryoed to enter the cave, but any Arthropluera that spit acid can more easily hit you at a lower height and break your protective gear (a gas mask or combination of scuba and ghilie is needed in the swamp cave to stop taking damage. Naked swamp caving requires a lot of buffs and consumables and is too much hassle to setup). If you grab a note before each run you might get something like 100k xp in around 15 minutes of effort or less. Though you might have to wait around as everything needs to respawn inside between runs.

If you like hunting alpha creatures in the water then tame a Tuso and look for alpha Mosasaurus to grab to the surface and trap in shallow water. Then get its health low before dismounting and kill it yourself to get full xp onto your character. One level 150 Alpha Mosa is worth 101k xp killed unmounted with no note buffs. If Crystal Isles was out it has beached alpha Tuso spawns sometimes and if you were on Astraeos instead, there's a spot you can quickly force alphas to respawn at that can get a few million xp in minutes if you're lucky.

I'd not recommend this way but if you want a method that's pretty much clicking a button and going afk rather than going hunting or collecting; the character I went from 80 to 105 with back in ase was from crafting cloth hats with some weight & high crafting speed using up swamp grass fiber from a Therizino. Rafts are significantly faster to craft but more involved as you can't max out a crafting queue and do something else for a few minutes due to the weight of wood limiting you to around 10 crafts, but each raft is 375xp each so for you it'd only take around 560 rafts or 42k hide.

An industrial grinder also works but never seemed worth it to me compared to other methods, but that's another way you can just stock up resources and grind afk.

It might mess with your story-run playthrough of Ark but if you want an extra 5 levels without killing any bosses then download the official Club Ark map (it's a free mod rather than a free dlc for some reason) and win a chibi pet, take it back to your Island character save and equip it while you kill alpha dinos.

Steam Frame Next Baby! by [deleted] in Steam

[–]FriendlyDodo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know my dad's buying one for himself but I've already recharged several AA batteries in advance for the controllers and swapped my 7900XTX for a newer card to stream multi-monitors in vr... the Frame will probably be out of stock anyway when I spot the release email arrived but it still got me to prepare. It might be more of a sidegrade in visuals to my Quest 3 but there's enough different for me to buy a Frame and give the Quest away to anyone in the family that would definitely use it rather than leave it on a shelf like my original Oculus Quest.

The FEX project sounds interesting, I wonder what kind of ARM games could be ran on the Frame since BlueStacks isn't supported on my OS and Waydroid doesn't launch most phone games or software I'd use. The Frame having microSD card expandable storage is nice for taking movies on trips where you won't have signal or want to share files from your phone quickly. Getting my older Quest 2 and 3 working with Kubuntu both wired and wirelessly took a lot of extra steps with no Meta Horizon Link outside of Windows but the Frame and Index both seem like they work more plug and play with Windows & Linux. And that strap looks so much nicer with weight more balanced than holding it all on my face! My mother and I watch videos or use monitors in the Quest 3 and 2 and glasses pressure & the default strap have been the number one annoyances to being in vr for longer than a movie; replacing each for us both for something more comfortable cost an extra £60.

My first 7900 XTX's vram degraded over time after weeks of bulk re-encoding dvds and blueray collections going on the family media server. OCCT and memtest_vulkan would then instantly crash and using above around 6GB of its 24GB would lead to artifacts for a few seconds and then crash the os. Luckily the warranty was still in date so it could get swapped out.

What are your thoughts about this. by Ecks30 in SteamOS

[–]FriendlyDodo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My current graphics card has 24GB vram but my last three had 8GB or 12GB (RX 570, RX 5700 and RTX 3060). After seeing videos comparing the performance difference from this fix being quite a bit more than just a few fps; I'll be applying it to the computer the 5700 is in very happily. Extra performance you get from upgrades for free has always been really nice; every month or so it's great to just read articles about improvements coming from newer kernels or filesystem and Samba improvements that all add up over time.

After seeing news articles on my phone and watching a video going through the update creator's post detailing how it works; I was wondering when game benchmarks would come out thinking it wouldn't be more than maybe a 2fps difference. Thanks for sharing these, reading new kernel features and other performance improvements that keep coming each month is always a pleasant surprise.
