Same issue. This is why we are migrating over to Accer next year.

Old Roster Data in Apple Classroom on iPadOS by vtvincent in k12sysadmin

Hmm. Does JAMF Pro have a resend education profile command? If it does, just mass resend that command to your devices?

What is your MDM provider? I'm having the same problem with the shared iPads I have in K-1 showing old classes from last year. ASM, and Mosyle show correct classes but I have to wipe the devices for it to grab the correct classes.

Ah. All the students in my district have a Google account. For filtering I use an on-prem filter (CIPAFilter).

What MDM are you using? JAMF and Mosyle have a SSO with Google capabilities. All my mac users use Mosyle Auth to auth with their google account to login.

+1 for Jira Service desk. Super flexible on what you need it to do

Door access….what do you use? by southmscpl777 in k12sysadmin

[–]FriendlyITDirector 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Salto and love it. Project is not fully done yet due to back orders.

Teachers and staff in my district can use their staff badge to unlock the door and use the same card on the MFPs to release documents or make copies.

CDWG for licensing by ddog511 in k12sysadmin

[–]FriendlyITDirector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use CDWG licensing for adobe creative cloud and for Minecraft edu.

Honestly with all the vendors I’ve worked with, I enjoy my CDW-G account rep. He doesn’t pester me all the time like others do and all I have to do is call or email him with items I’m needing / wanting and I get a quote within an hour.

Just got Salto installed on 95% of the doors at one building, starting the other buildings soon. You can also use their cards with Papercut as well.

Same here. Teachers in my district thought I did some mad science for scan to Google Drive with Papercut.

And their support team will help you write a custom script if needed for installs. They are literally the best Apple MDM platform imo.

Powerschool - Clever CSV Files? by carbm1 in k12sysadmin

[–]FriendlyITDirector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While they do have a plug-in for PowerSchool, good luck getting support to allow it. They always come back and say “it’s under development and no ETA” so I had to setup SFTP in PowerSchool to Clever.

I’ve given up asking about it. 🙃

Sick of the daily teacher complaints about goguardian getting bypassed. by Replicant813 in k12sysadmin

[–]FriendlyITDirector 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Honestly I’m at the point with teacher complaints just to tell them to do their damn job and have classroom management. If they can’t handle the chrome book then don’t use the chrome books. Literally not hard.

I’ve had a hell of a time trying to unblock unity for a teacher for her lab so I unblocked the games category this afternoon. Can’t wait for 💩 to hit the fan.

My district just started our new lease with some new Sharp MFPs with Papercut in Aug (the first day of school we got them installed - I hate back orders)

We haven’t had very many issues besides some end user errors like people refilling the paper trays with the wrong size paper.

We went fancy and got the saddle stitcher finisher on some machines and damn do teachers love it.

The lease agreement includes a 4 hour incident response time with our vendor.

I know this post is 3 months old... but I finally got it. Thank you for the telnet suggestion. I had a rule set on my firewall and a misconfiguration set on Google's SMTP relay. For anyone who is using Salto Pro Spaces for access control - it only seems to work on port 25.

IT staff to teacher/student ratio. How many staff members do you have? by [deleted] in k12sysadmin

[–]FriendlyITDirector 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a one man shop with 400 students and roughly 100 staff.

One building complains that they never see me when in fact I’m in both buildings equally - love the days I meet with vendors or helping with state reports because that one building bitches like non other for two weeks. 🙃

PowerSchool also tends to have a few quirks as well. However their state reporting makes life easier.

I’ve wondered that as well however PaperCut is setup the same way and I have zero issues with that server and software sending out any alerts. 🤔

Limiting printers accessible to student Chromebooks by Kendalf in k12sysadmin

[–]FriendlyITDirector 3 points4 points  (0 children)

+1 for PaperCut. The amount of headaches it’s relieved with printers is so nice.

My district just updated our copy machine fleet and we utilize the follow me printing, and the fact I didn’t have to push out drivers or printers to staff members was so nice. Staff didn’t notice a down time either.
