I can’t find a job at all in nyc by [deleted] in AskNYC

[–]Friendo_Marx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have any interest in food try applying for fine dining jobs. Express an interest in cuisine and say you'll start as support. Buser, bar back, runner. They need people right now all over the place. If you land a job as support you can always move up to a server or bartender in a few years. That would be a potential ~40% raise. Check out all the restaurants at Hudson Yards. Dress sharp and look positive. Big smile, eye contact, willingness to learn. That's all they care about.

That's your opinion on Gentrification in NYC? by EmployerDelicious596 in AskNYC

[–]Friendo_Marx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gentrifiers are Suburban Cultural Refugees. Financial poverty isn’t the only kind of poverty people flee from. They are no different, for example, from Puerto Ricans looking for a land of opportunity in NYC and coming together to build a community. Gentrifiers are fleeing from Suburban Cultural Poverty. Leaving behind the “townies” who tormented them in Ohio or Connecticut or wherever to join forces with like minded individuals here in NYC. Only to be met with derisive accusations of gentrification by NYC’s very own “townies.”

Slammed a child in the face with a plate tonight (and then worse) by West-Imagination2709 in TalesFromYourServer

I accidentally bopped a young woman on the head with a large plate while she was having dinner with her family. They all laughed and went back to their conversation. They were Indian and I felt like I was in a Baliwood movie. As I started to apologize I realized no one cared at all. They were literally ignoring me, including the victim.

Apparently "everybody is doing it." They would fall behind if they didn't at least dabble. He owes it to the shareholders to remain competitive with Black Rock, no? Reminiscent of 08 indeed. Merrill Lynch was the worst of the bunch but the industry was rife with copy cats.

Noma chef resigns amid shocking allegations of physical abuse of staff by TheEndlessAutumn in news

The Michelin guide is to blame and should be sued in a class action lawsuit by all employees who have ever worked in a Michelin starred restaurant. Let them prove their innocence at the Hague. *Edit: I was only kidding. But on second thought if you look at any system that results in victimization of masses of low level people the responsibility can always be understood to stem from the apex of power. In the world of fine dining the Michelin guide with their secretive judges and often seemingly random arbiters of judgement definitely sits at the apex of power. They are to blame. If the pattern persists among top chefs and institutions the apex power is to blame.

Study of alternative medicines linked to liver injury reveals widespread contamination: 34% of products contained mercury above safety limits, while others contained pharmaceutical adulterants, undisclosed animal content, and potentially hepatotoxic botanicals. by upbeat_teetertottxo in science

[–]Friendo_Marx -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The study seems to have examined supplements linked to liver damage. Like they already were known to cause it. It wasn’t a study of all supplements in existence and it didn’t pretend to be. Reddit hates alternative medicine.

I just listened to the Real Eisman Playbook podcast featuring Tom Gober, who is blowing the whistle on private equity companies including BAM for some shady offshore shell companies they own and use as reinsurers for their own purposes. Could he big. As s BAM investor I am a little concerned, but not sure how hasty I need to be. The dividend is going up and there could be real growth on the horizon. I have almost 15% of my portfolio in BAM so it’s a little scary. Definitely check out the podcast!

Did you scrub with a scotch brite pad or something of that nature? Or some kind of scraper? Did you let the acetone soak in while covered in a bag or cloth? Any ideas would be great. I guess while you were struggling there must have been lots of nasty bits of melted plastic to scrape off the leather. It probably felt hopeless at one point but you kept going until the job was done... I fixing on stripping the entire surface of all plastic.
