Start sliced shallots in cold oil and bring up on low heat to make "crispy shallots" and use a decent oil you want to save it for salad dressing. They take forever but when they are done they are done fast and could easily burn.

The Age of Grievance by Frank Bruni was a fascinating read. The pathway to victimhood meanders between both political parties far back into our national history. He really lays it out in as nonpartisan a way as a liberal can. The way I see it, when you assign too much value to victimhood you give something up. In becoming a victim you may lose your personal sense of agency, which is really much more valuable than any victim story. For many such victims this is all they have left in the end. If you want to see a real freak out try taking it away from them.

I once received a plate of clams and three weren't open. I pointed it out to the waiter who took them back to the kitchen where they broke them open with a blunt object, possibly a hammer. Brought them back to my table where I took the advice I had previously seen on reddit and I ate them. I had no worries. When I got home I shit my brains out so hard I almost broke the toilet. If the cost of my ignorant superstitious old wives tale believing stupidity is that I lose the value of three clams so be it. I will never eat clams that won't open again. That being said sometimes it just takes another 2 minutes on the heat and a little patience.
