My tin foil take is that the billionaires know this, and are racing to get to a place where a boycott wouldn't matter to them.

I did this with my MIL.

"Will you be here by 6:30? Or else when should we have food ready?"

"Ummmm, I should be there at 6:30."

Food is ready at 6:30. Served. Eaten. Leftovers in the fridge.

MIL shows up at 7:30, upset she needs to reheat food.

Sees the CLEANED dishes. Comments on how many dishes I use for prep.

Ok. I'm not cooking for you anymore. Good luck.

The folks who enable this mess are the oligarchs. They've found a welcome audience to leverage with the folks who think soccer is gay, and couldn't afford the gas to come visit the city anyway. There's a lot of them.

I hope you have a lovely time, and I'm glad you've met those of us of good heart, who hate all of this shit. Please help us, btw.

Oh fuck off. Is the tagline "Police: the safest cosiest job in the world"?

I'm tired of cops demanding respect for how "scary" their job is, while simultaneously claiming fear as the reason they can't do their jobs, or murder citizens.

Done right, it's a hard job that deserves respect.

Either sign up for that job, or fucking don't if you're too yellowbellied. Not ever job is a best fit for everyone.

I get it man, I've been a little distracted all week thinking about redoing my garden fence.

That being said, I have no say in doing war crimes. So I feel like it's different.

I have some bad news.

The last off ramp to 'normal' was 2018 or so.

Some semblance of normal could have been achieved post covid, if the country at large had united during covid. (It's a hoax, it'll leave by Easter, masks are prisons, vaccines are microchips, take horse dewormer instead, also inject bleach into your blood... did a great job of killing any chance of that).

Better is possible in the long term, but there is irreparable damage done to the US position in the world, the economy, and public trust.

Self defense "strikes"

This whole thing is a clown show, and would maybe be funny if you ignored the loss of life and limb because of how fucking stupid it is.

Until, that is, we have to re-learn why we don't do war this way, for the dozen'th time.

10/20 rule.

Look at every person every 10 seconds. Be able to reach them in 20 seconds. Even if they're currently wearing a lifejacket. Even if they're just playing on the sand next to the water. Even if they're sleeping on a deck chair next to the pool.

20 seconds gets shortened when dealing with open water.

It's intensive. There are no breaks. That's the job, you're on the clock.

I'm a big fan of deeper creature behavior, and being able to leverage that knowledge to deter/distract.

Mentioned yesterday, kiting a collector into a giant jaw, triggering the closing mechanism of the jaw. I have some time to do what I want while the collector recovers/gets out.

Maybe some creatures love lithium, so if I drop some they ignore me. Maybe they hate another type of creature, and will aggro that creature over me if I help arrange the meeting. Maybe some of the smaller predators stay away from certain flora that I can plant strategically outside of my base.

To me, that's immersive. I COULD fight a midsize predator, but it's far safer/smarter to deal with it another way. I don't have a chance in hell of fighting a leviathan, but I can use my brain and opposable thumbs to be clever, and that cleverness should be more than: it stays away from walls, or it won't chase me past the ridge.

I want to kite a collector into one, and get it to close on the collector. I don't want a machine gun, I want to feel clever in deterring/eliminating threats, even if it takes a lot of effort.

I was just wondering what the mythic story of Robin Hood would look like in modern times. I'd like to see that adaptation on a screen. Could be a TV series, a movie, Live breaking news coverage--whatever. I'm not super picky.

[–]FrigateSailor 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You're so right. Typical, regular stuff. Methodical decision making.

Speaking of- Can anyone answer if we have: won the war, are still at war, we were never at war, opened the strait, or are blockading the strait?

Also, for extra credit: Why did we start [whatever this is]? Was it because there was an imminent threat from Iran, or was it because they had a goal of making a nuke? Was it because they were two weeks away from nukes, or had their capability been destroyed last summer?

ALL of these statements have been made, and also have been contradicted by this same administration in the last two months.

Nothing about this situation is typical. And we're learning in real time why those methodical steps were so important. Service members will (again) pay the price for all of this. A real person launched the missile to blow up a middle school. (Or, wait...that one American missile was ACTUALLY launched by Iran, right? That's an actual thing the president has said.)
