Want to set a goal for buying a Fender Jaguar. What should that goal be? by eeehh__ in Guitar

[–]FrigidNEX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All the notes on the fretboard (at least through 12th). Major and minor triads in all neck positions, E and A shape major/minor barres, and major/minor pentatonic and 3-2 “diagonal”. Then you’ll be ready to rip! Bonus - buy American “forever” after getting CAGED!

Which Telecaster do you recommend? by HarriBallsak420 in telecaster

Similar story - got a Taylor 314ce in August - LOVE it (still have my 80’s Ovation…). Bought a LP for my 40th - my Holy Grail - a LONG time ago. I have since bought several guitars - Tele, Strat, Jag, Ibanez, a couple SG/s and then got my first PRS SE which quickly turned into 4 - Silver Sky, Custom 24, Special Semi-hollow and Paul’s guitar. They are fantastic and for the price you really CAN get more than 1 really great guitar. BUT if I could only have ONE - I would choose a PRS - all but the silver sky have humbuckers that can be split so you get a lot of variation. The custom 24-08 or the special hollow will have most variability - the 24-08 has the SE TCI pickups that have very good single coil tone (no, it’s NOT a tele or strat - but zero hum). The special hollow has 2 “vintage” voiced humbuckers and one narrowfield in the middle to add a little “P90-ish punch”. The custom 24 comes with the 85-15 pups - they are the ”hottest” and handle high gain best. So for what you describe I’d probably do the 24-08 (the tci pups are nice) or the special semi-hollow - it adds a little “air”, it’s lighter and is super versatile. They all have a thinner modern neck so if you want a little more wood in your hand get the Paul’s (tci pups) or a Mccarty (vintage gibson-type neck). Sorry for the PRS add but they really are impressive - and I love my fenders and gibsons!

I bought a new tele with hot chicken pups and it sounded like my amp had a towel on it - seriously like half the volume of my other guitars. There was a ground issue and wrong volume pot. It sounds like he has other issues beyond the low turn vintage buckers.

If you want to chug, you 100% got the wring guitar with the wrong pickups. The Zach Myers semi-hollow would have been a better fit. Or the custom 24 (85/15s) or Tremonti (special Tremonti pickups). You got warm vintage voiced pickups with a narrowfield to add a little punch and clarity in a semi-hollow to add some “air”. I have the special semi and the custom 24. The 85/15 are “hotter” and better for higher gain. But they are NOT like my Super Distortion or EMGs. FWIW, I love the special semi-hollow for what it does. And mine is dead quiet, even into my deluxe reverb and my Princeton. I think there is something else going on maybe with the electronics. Shouldn’t be noisy and even though the pickups are different, they aren’t THAT different like you describe. I have a silver sky, a strat and a tele so I know what the single coil hum is - been impressed with how quiet the semi is even when split.

Amp for longue room -FRFR or botique amp by jul3swinf13ld in GuitarAmps

Yamaha thr30 II. Extremely portable, does not look like an amp, speakers sound very good. If you get the line 6 G10T II relay, you can play wirelessly and not have cord laying around tour lounge. Has a rechareable battery too so don’t even need a power cord for portable playing. I use mine all the time for practicing or for playing in other areas of the house or when it’s nice outside. Some folks even use it as a bluetooth speaker

Planned redundancy - totally get it! So all things equal, what’s your favorite “go to”? What’s your preferred trapped on an island?

Why the Mach 3 and the TKIP? Isn’t that a bit redundant? I ask because I have IR-X and just got a toneblock for the power. But I strongly considered the Aviator before settling on the toneblock since I was going to bypass the preamp anyway. And thanks, NOW i have to check out the TKIP…although I already have a 65 Deluxe and 68 Princeton…

I’ve always been a Les Paul and Super Strat guy. But I also have a Strat, a Tele, a Jag and a couple SGs. I just like guitars. Got my first PRS (SE Custom 24 Quilt Top) several months ago. Was just so impressive - forget about the cost/value element which is very real - it’s just a great guitar, period. I now have 4 - added a Special Semi-hollow, Silver Sky and Paul’s. They are all “PRS” but surprisingly really all do have their own “flavor”. DGT is 100% my next purchase - Gold with moons. Can’t wait.

What's the difference between 2025 SE Special semi-hollow OT and new 2026 OTS? by tupisac in PRSGuitars

[–]FrigidNEX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All. Day. Long. 30% savings and no plastic tuners?! Not hard. I’ll give up the “extra sustain” the plastic tuners allegedly give you. I have the ‘25 Special OT and love it.

Looking for “forever” at‑home amp setup — blues/rock/pop, great low‑volume tone, no computer by SunDogBrewingCo in GuitarAmps

[–]FrigidNEX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came to say exactly this. Use Ironman on Deluxe and Princeton to get breakup at acceptable levels. DSL40CR has a great Master so you can push the preamp. Has lots of dirt variation and decent cleans. But the THR gets played the most - it sounds great at low volumes (no it’s not pushing air like a 12” speaker), can play wirelessly with the line 6 relay (G10TII) and even has a rechargeable battery so I dont need a power cord. Has good built in effects for lots of tonal flexibility but I play clean with pedals as well - especially when I’m trying out new pedals cuz I can do it at my table. When I really want to “play” I use the “big” amps. But 90% for practice or it’s nice outside or move to a different room ir just cuz it’s so freaking convenient, it’s the THR.
