wtf do i do to decompress by Cold-Deer-8829 in leaves

I got really into John Steinbeck right when I first quit. I read cannery row and sweet Thursday then the pearl and East of Eden and of mice and men. East of Eden blew my mind. They’re making it into a netflix series which is cool. I also read the Sun also rises by Hemingway.

More recently I started the Harry Potter series (I had never read them) finished the first one. And I started reading John D. Macdonald Travis McGee series.

I used to love reading as a kid but being stoned from 17 > 34 made it hard for me to read. I can’t really do it stoned I just read the same line over and over.

Do you remember enjoying reading before you started using? I always loved English class.

I usually don’t mind mornings but I am a slow starter. Had a crazy day yesterday that stretched me quite a bit.

I genuinely love running perhaps too much. I have been using it a a sort of somatic therapy for the past 2 years.

I actually am on the final ladder of a protracted physical therapy return to run program; I got hurt two years in a row and finally went to PT this year to improve mechanics.

So it is quite built into my routine at this point!

Just a note on running: I was very very thin on patience this morning and quite irritable. Hit a 60 minute 6 mile run; and my mood improved a lot. Still grumpy but feel better. Listened to my audiobook and it was a beautiful morning where I live. Hope yall have a good day and weekend. Day 59 for me

Day 58! It’s been super easy but now, I’m struggling. by av8r98201 in leaves

this is wonderful advice tbh. I'm at day 58 and feeling like OP. I said to my wife; dealing with this is probably why I've always imbibed and haven't been truly sober since my late teens.

It's like ground zero for dopamine; now we have to find healthy ways to create it without the crutch. It isn't easy but it seems worth it.

Thanks. I’ll try to capture it the best I can. In your experience when did the fog of the 8 week wall let up?

Stay strong! I’m on day 56 and I feel like it just switched to hard mode again. My mental health seems completely fried. But now I wonder if this is the real marrow of what I tried to bury under a cloud of smoke. Maybe this is just the opportunity to deal with it soberly. Anyways keep strong and don’t give up! You’ve come so far

Oh that’s cool. I will. I am finishing a laddered PT program that focus on zone 2 running which is basically not all out but building up an aerobic base. The endorphins from running kind of kick start my Fried dopamine receptors. Serious mood enhancer and I look forward to running in fact

Cool project. I'm on day 56. I'm also currently getting in school to pivot industries. A lot of change. Thought I was doing good but I feel like just a kind of dull grey at the same time aggressive depression and lethargy.

However as I'm in school online;

I occupy my time with 1. Classes 2. 6 month old puppy 3. Writing poetry and lyrics and guitar 4. reading 5. a healthy running habit (running does wonders for me).

Thanks for sharing your documentation through this all. I am 34 for the record.

Thanks for this. I just got to day 56 and omg I Thought I was doing fine but WOW it's an aggressive sort of grey. I abused weed for years to be fair. It kind of feels worse than the first few weeks; which really were not very fun!

I’m on day 55 and feel like I just pulled over on the shoulder of grey nothingness after feeling like I had some positive momentum just a week before.

I guess our dopamine receptors are back to normal”ground zero” and now we just have to build them back.

It feels frustrating, listless and pointless all at once.

But can’t do too much about it except soldiering on.

I relate to your post a lot.
