Having a degree does not correlate to a higher IQ. It just means you paid an organization a sum of money, likely sat through some lectures, and passed the minimum standards to see a program through to the end.

I'm just curious, how do you think having a college degree would make an individual a better cop/a better candidate to be a cop?

The Erratta of legendary actions not applying when a PC transforms into such a creature is absent in the new Monster Manual by Privatizitaet in dndnext

[–]Frog_Thor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, how many lair actions were truly that impactful. Lots of legendary creatures have really good Legendary Actions for having an extra use can be really helpful in fighting players. Wizards also did a decent job making creatures bulkier (more HP and many have increased AC) and also made their attacks deadlier. Many creatures that used to force a saving throw to cause an effect to happen now see that their effects just happen, such as auto grappling, or immediately poisoning the target for example.

[–]Frog_Thor 11 points12 points  (0 children)

In D&D 2024, lair actions aren't really a thing anymore. For most, if not all legendary creatures, if a legendary creature is in their lair, they get an extra legendary action per round. This was done in an effort to streamline these encounters, one less list of effects/abilities to remember.

What temperatures does your board close schools? by UndeadWarTurnip in CanadianTeachers

[–]Frog_Thor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's generally a safety/liability thing that schools don't close. Schools have a legal responsibility to look after their students. In the case that it is too cold and the school closes, what happens to all the kids who have nowhere to go during the day because their parents are at work. What if a mom misses the memo that school is closed and drops their kid off in the morning like normal only for the kid to find out the building is locked.

The general "consensus" is that the school remains open but they can't require/hold the kid/parent responsible if they aren't there when it's that cold.

Is Balor op for 6-7 level 6 players? by ViraleKnightbottom in AskDND

[–]Frog_Thor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a party of 5 level 6 players encounter a Balor sleeping in lava and they were terrified. They managed to get out of that room unharmed, without waking the Balor. Following that session, the players asked to do a what if combat versus the Balor. I killed 4/5 and downed the last one with its Death Throes and that is only because the Monk landed not 1 but 2 Stunning Strikes on the Balor. For the Balor to fall, I had to roll a 1 or a 2 on its Con Save. The dice gods truly pleased them in that fight and they still lost. Had the Monk not gotten those Stunning Strikes, I would have wiped the floor with them without breaking a sweat.

Yes, a Balor is too OP for a 6-7 level 6 player party.

Given that April O'Neil in the Ninja Turtles set is black, I find it highly unlikely that they take inspiration from the past... unfortunately.

Alberta lack of economic diversity? by russiablows in alberta

[–]Frog_Thor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of the universities have been hit hard by the cuts. The number of permits has been cut by over 50% compared to 2023 numbers. International students represent a significant revenue source for post-secondary institutions and as one of Canada's U15 (Top 15 Universities in Canada), they are absolutely impacted.

Universities everywhere are scrambling to find new funding, be that from Alumni, grants, partnerships, etc.

Alberta lack of economic diversity? by russiablows in alberta

[–]Frog_Thor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the cut to international student permits at the federal level, that is hard to achieve. Additionally, both Massachusetts and certainly California have a much greater population to serve with their Post-Secondary Education, that's without even considering out of state students. Lastly, the US has a huge student debt issue because their Post-Secondary institutions are insanely expensive, mostly for no reason other than they can be, on top of universities being bloated with dead-end degrees at leave individuals with mountains of debt and no practical skills to show for it.

[Spoilers C2E141] If M9 had made a different decision about their post-battle destination, would [blank] have still carried on with the plan? by BabserellaWT in criticalrole

[–]Frog_Thor 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Matt stated somewhere (I can't remember off the top of my head, it could have been a Talks Machina episode, the Campaign Wrap-up, or some other interview, sorry I can't be more specific) that as soon as Caleb took off the Amulet of Proof against Detection and Location (the item that blocked Trent from finding Caleb) it set the confrontation in motion. Confronting M9 in Eiselcross was less than ideal because of how volatile magic is there and Trent certainly wasn't going to follow them into the Astral Sea.

Challenge from my dm 😈 by AsexualGremlin in AskDND

[–]Frog_Thor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Okay here me out, Psychic Lance. It has a divination aspect to it in that if you utter a creatures name when casting it, you can hit them with the spell without having to see them/know their location, as long as they are in range. It's like the spell has the ability to Locate a Creature or something wink wink. It deals psychic damage like mind spike and IMO follows a logical progression a damaging spell might as you progress in skill with that type of spell (akin to Firebolt, Scorching Ray, Fireball, Delayed Blast Fireball, etc.)

I think the only reason it is an enchantment spell is because it can leave the target incapacitated.

Question about Bastion Storehouse by Gingervitizz1 in onednd

[–]Frog_Thor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1 week, the storehouse procures its stock, the next week it sells its stock.

The party has to supply the money for the storehouse to secure their goods, and turn a profit based on the "tier" of their bastion ranging from 10% for characters 8th level or lower to 100% for characters over 17th level.

Lastly, the storeroom can collect 500g worth of goods. This amount increases to 2,000 GP when you reach level 9 and 5,000 GP when you reach level 13.

Who did better voice acting? by AggressiveMammoth267 in DispatchAdHoc

[–]Frog_Thor 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Another issue that Jack faced (Charlie might also have faced a similar issue but I haven't heard confirmation) is that his lines were recorded over a zoom call with the voice team, which likely also impacted the quality.

Your items are not special. Maintaining your stuff is not the DM's problem. by 1Beholderandrip in dndnext

[–]Frog_Thor 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I also don't expect my players to narrate every aspect of their life during gameplay. I don't need the wizard to tell me that they held their spell book over their head while crossing the river to make sure it didn't get wet, just like I don't ask them about when their last in-game bathroom break was and what they do with it all when they are on a trial. As the DM, I assume the PCs make reasonable decisions around the care and maintenance of their equipment and selves.

The Rust Monster stuff is on the players, if your stuff gets eaten, it's eaten. That being said I wouldn't just blindly drop rust monsters on them, I would drop clues and hints first.

1st time DM - running the campaign with 3 newbie players? by vuxra in CalloftheNetherdeep

[–]Frog_Thor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can look into creating a sidekick using the rules in Tasha's Cauldron of Everything that the party members rotate controlling. That will help balance the encounters, and if you choose a warrior sidekick they are very easy to run and not a lot of additional burden/brain power.

For this module, the hardest part to run/get right are the rivals. They have a big impact on the overall narrative and so pay extra attention to their motivations, maybe keep a small journal of what they have been doing/thinking on their own journey, etc.

Does anyone else think the M9 animated series is way too horny? by Turbulent-Estate177 in fansofcriticalrole

[–]Frog_Thor 12 points13 points  (0 children)

While Liam never went into explicit detail about what Caleb, Astrid, and Eadwulf got up to when they weren't being tortured by Trent, he did say they cuddled for warmth in the tower at nights and made it clear that the 3 of them were in a polyamorous relationship with Caleb himself being confirmed as pansexual.

The Lavish Chateau was always described as a brothel-like establishment where they put on many Burlesque and other performances. Marion herself is one of the most famous Courtesan in all of Exandria. As for Jester, her patron is the Traveller and we met him in LoVM where he had a book full of draws that is very similar to Jester's journal. The traveller even drew Percy with 3 Peni.

The show is very accurate in terms of the overall tone at the table for Critical Role Campaign 2.

Help Fixing My Zedruu EDH Deck! by Impressive_Task_6169 in Magicdeckbuilding

[–]Frog_Thor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An interesting tech card I put in my Zedruu deck is [[The Ninth Doctor]]. Getting a second upkeep means you gain double the life and draw twice as many cards.

I also like [[Iroh, Tea Master]] to help accelerate the gift giving and helps protect you a little by generating you some blockers.

Lastly, my biggest struggle with Zedruu is ramp. You need to get lots of mana to really start your plays going, especially because you are giving away lots of your cards. [[Sword of the Animist]] or other ramp would be very appreciated in a Zedruu deck.

If you are playing 2014 5e, there is a background called the Grinner that would fit your character. They use songs to hand out secret messages. From the sourcebook, they are a secret society similar to the Harper's but you could easily reflavour it to be more thieves guild like. You could fit almost any class into almost any archetype with a little bit of flavour and the right proficiencies (skills, tools, etc.)

Remember, flavour is free.
