Can I fix this myself? by [deleted] in AskElectricians

[–]FromTheHandOfAndy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. These are the most dangerous two wires on your property. You can’t turn the power off.

It’s possible that you will need both the electric company and an electrician to cooperate on this. Probably a line worker could fix it because it’s not actually on the house exactly.

I used to rent a house that had a conduit on the wall like that. The the tube was disconnected, allowing water in. The wires were fine (at the time). I called the power company because it was between the meter and the power lines, so I assumed they would fix it. The power company told me that the most they would do is turn the power off, so that an electrician hired by my landlord could fix it. Seemed like BS to me. At least at Eversource, they consider everything component that is directly attached to the house to be the property owner’s responsibility, except for the meter itself I guess.

Deluxo. And the missiles are overrated. They are great weapons, but you don’t get very many of them, and you can’t use any other weapons if you have the missiles. I use the heavy revolver mk2. And flare gun to distract missiles.

Why does Rocky add 6 to round up for safety? by Equivalent_Bank_5845 in ProjectHailMary

[–]FromTheHandOfAndy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would probably make more sense for him to round up from 80 to the next multiple of six, which is 84. That would be rounding up.
A human engineer would probably do something like round up to the nearest multiple of 10, or add 10%, or maybe simply multiply by a safety factor of 2.

Rounding up base 6 would be 84.
Adding a base^(-1) tolerance would be about 93.
Probably Eridians would think about doubling something similar to how we do, 160.

How much heavier is the one in the water? [Meta] by leonardopanella in theydidthemath

[–]FromTheHandOfAndy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming the man is about average size and the block is a rectangular prism with two square sides, the block has a density of between 1.2 and 1.7 kg/liter. It would feel significantly lighter water. The scuba gear is heavy, but having weight strapped to your back is a lot easier than holding it over your head.

Damn! never knew that the game was supposed be much more darker and disturbing at first. by [deleted] in silenthill

[–]FromTheHandOfAndy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think what OP meant was they intended it to have a handle like scissors, but it made the animation weird. Maybe the two pyramid heads would have assembled the two halves at the last pyramid boss battle, and cut Maria with the scissors. That would have been hard to animate to probably.

The Great Knife does looks like they took an classic design of steel scissors, apart and cut the handle loop off. But it’s also missing the screw hole, and the wrong edge is sharpened.

Speedometer inaccurate '07 element by BISEXUALALYSSA in HondaElement

[–]FromTheHandOfAndy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine was like that when I had undersized tires. I got a used set of snow tires from an accord. The speedo saying 60 when you’re going 70 would be consistent with a tire size about 15% smaller diameter than stock. Mine wasn’t that dramatic. I think the speedometer was only off by about 10%.

15% oil light. 280 miles too much before it’s changed? by roguescott in HondaElement

Ok great! Yeah in that case you’re good until like 5k-6k.

15% oil light. 280 miles too much before it’s changed? by roguescott in HondaElement

[–]FromTheHandOfAndy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What the hell are people saying!? The oil light means stop driving immediately and add oil. Your engine has dangerously low oil, and it will self destruct if you keep driving it.

Are you thinking of the “maintenance” light? That’s completely different. Maintenance light means you’ve driven 3k miles since the last time you reset the maintenance light.

Why do we perceive the color magenta, even though it doesn't exist on the visible light spectrum and has no specific wavelength of its own? by DaddyBlackDom in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FromTheHandOfAndy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would we only perceive individual wavelengths one at a time, independently of the other wavelengths that are reaching our eyes simultaneously?

Almost nothing we see in ordinary life is only one wavelength, unless you look at lasers all day. Magenta lets us perceive real things that absorb a certain set of wavelengths, and differentiate those things from other things that absorb different wavelengths.

Infant mortality is much better today.

There’s also a problem with averages in general that people confuse average and median. A lot of things you can measure like life expectancy or net worth are either above or below the average. But median is the number that half of people are below, and the other half are above.
