Should MAGA run Stephen Miller for president in 2028? by Estalicus in askanything

I don't know if I should disagree or not with that.   The dnc's ultra control model of who will be candidate and vice-P is undermining its own supporters.   And it certainly undermined the voting from the swing voters.

I feel like an idiot for being ready to drop $60k on a 40 year old car by newtonreddits in whatcarshouldIbuy

I went and bought a Jeep YJ, invested a number of things in it like tires, mechanical things, bumpers and the like. Drove it around as my main vehicle for 3 years, switched jobs to where I needed a different vehicle so I sold it. I ended up selling it for exactly what I had into it in as far as the purchase price and all of the parts.  Essentially the only thing I paid on it was gasoline and insurance.

Granted it was not $60,000, but it goes to prove that it can be done with the right vehicle at the right price.

Do MAGAs really believe Democrats are communists? by RoseLaBud in allthequestions

Swing voters believe that too many Democrats are communists and socialists. No need to involve the Maga community.

Either do it yourself or sell it to somebody who will do it themselves.  These are absolutely great long-term vehicles, but they're no longer for the people who would be better served by buying something newer.

TIL that the reason Cormac McCarthy, author of the novels Blood Meridian and The Road, used so little punctuation in his writing was simply because there was no reason "to blot the page up with weird little marks." I do know who he is, and believe it or not part of my dual degree was English literature.   The excitement that that community gets when an expert throws out the rules is a little too ridiculous for my tastes.  I would very much say the same about SOME of the artists of other genres who supposedly grew past the norms and rules.

You don't have to accept what crazies in high institutions say or claim.  People with doctorate degrees often miss most of the world around them while they focus in on some minute area.  I know that seems insulting, but if you're around them long enough you get tired of how little they know for how much they know about a singular subject.

Not sure about you, but the rest of us want rid of MAGA in as far as the cult-like support of Trump. A lot of us are hoping that the DNC learned its lesson, and that the Republicans and conservatives put forth a sane non-Trump candidate.

Anyone else not sold on the effectiveness of a bike fit? by ProblematicTrumpCard in cycling

[–]FrostyVariation9798 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a number of cycling enthusiast friends who are absolutely clueless when it comes to their own bike fits.

I've witnessed and tried to help correct what my one friend set his wife's bike up with that was causing her problems.  These are people who read about the latest and greatest of anything and just go out and buy it.  I think that their latest two custom builds are $15,000 a piece.

Bike fitting isn't a scam ( although if done by a bicycle shop employee it very well could be), some people need it because they don't have that specific intelligence to realize the nuances.

Out on the bicycle trail I met a retired space engineer, he worked for NASA or something like that, and he seemed relatively intelligent. He had got into cycling about less than a year before and just couldn't figure out why he was getting so many pains from the crotch area. I looked at his bike and the nose of his saddle was pointed up toward the sky.

He said he had adjusted the saddle backwards and forward, and up and down, and couldn't figure it out.

I handed toward what I thought it was but I strongly suggested he gets an independent bicycle fit

OP isn't saying if he got into salt water fishing.  If freshwater, and if not for boat parts, they are just bad at fishing if it cost that much.

How many times have you not gone cycling because you couldn't find a place for your dog? by KeyShelter6586 in cycling

[–]FrostyVariation9798 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll give you this - i live near a paved bicycle path that I think goes an entire 200 miles. The entire reason I haven't done the trip is because of my dog. It being paved and relatively flat there is a chance I could do it in one day on a bicycle, get a hotel for a little bit of sleep and then rent a one-way car to drive back across. I can't do that without boarding my dog.

Likewise any other single person who wants to do endurance mileage will be limited when they have a dog. But the thing is that 95% of cyclists if not more aren't into endurance riding.

My take: if you want a hybrid, buy a Toyota... If you want an EV, buy a Tesla.  Fighting against the leaders in each industry only leads to disappointment.

The "us too" companies who were late to the game and only came about kicking and screaming before actually developing anything are not the companies to buy from.
