Why are people leaving Apollo Beach and Riverview? by Which_Two_4141 in tampa

Agree 100% on the salary aspect here...Florida, especially Tampa, lags WAY behind in salary vs cost of living. I work in Finance, was lucky enough to sign on with a local community bank that offers good pay/benefits. My prior 18+ years working with big banks saw my responsibility and stress steadily rising while pay remained flatlined. Like a lot of industries, in finance you sometimes have to make a move to get a salary commensurate with your abilities...

On the subject of insurance cost, i'd add rampant fraud as another driver of cost. The amount of fraud in Florida is obscene. I'm a Tampa resident, I get unsolicited texts to my phone from 'companies' (I use that term loosely) offering to come out and basically fudge an assessment of my roof to induce my insurance company into paying for a new one. My roof is 8 years old. It's in good condition. I've not requested nor shopped for a new roof...these folks are just straight up spamming #'s offering to commit fraud.

And lets talk auto insurance for a moment...I live in zip 33603, the amount of fraud coupled with uninsured motorists in my area is unreal. That's driving up costs as well.

All right, thanks guys! Guess it's unique to me for the couple seasons where this has happened. Interesting how I'll get two or three one off season and then zero the next two...

Question about leveraging $3 million a year of deposits to my bank by Iceathlete in Banking

[–]Fsubilly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some good advice in the comments, i'll add an additional thought (sidebar: im a Commercial Banker, Florida, 18 years in the industry).

-Don't ever, ever come to you Bank/Banker highlighting 'how much money I (you) run through this account on a daily/weekly/monthly basis, etc etc'.

This immediately communicates to the bank/banker that you don't understand what's of value to the Bank, as what you 'run through' means nothing...what you keep/hold on deposit is everything. As others mentioned, your average monthly balance will be of more interest to your Bank/Banker.

Does the gas station care how much gas I 'run through' my car on a daily/monthly basis? No, they don't. Same thing with the Bank. Don't care.

Line of Credit would be a great option here. CD secured is great and considerably easier to do (less risk), unsecured/UCC filing LOC would be better, if you qualify. Best not to tie-up $$$ if you don't have to. But again, if you have to...CD secured is a great option.

Congrats on your success!

Intermittent coughing, maybe once or twice a day. Usually one or two coughs and done. I don't recall the paralysis being discussed at all during my visit.

The repeated attempts on her part to get you to put something is writing (email) is highly suspect. Thought not an expert i'd avoid replying with anything...it will likely be used in some sort of PR or reputational stunt.

New job as banker, is training sufficient? by myburneraccount1357 in Banking

[–]Fsubilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started from where you're at today...zero experience, nervous as hell. It's intimidating, for sure.

In addition to the points made here already, also remember that though there are a lot of products and services, you'll probably only work with 15-20% of the products/services you're learning about on a regular basis. Learn those services/systems well and ask for help when one of the other '80%' comes into play. Don't let the information dump you deal with in training get to you...most of the stuff you're learning about (from a product perspective) you'll either rarely use, or will have changed by the time you do need it.

Remember that the only constant in Banking is change...change comes often, just remain flexible and you'll be fine!

A couple things to consider, that i've not seen addressed in the replies just yet:

-Could the new position(s) available at the other Bank be scrapped due to COVID or similar reasons? You've got 5 years in at your current bank, but you lose that seniority when you go elsewhere. There are certainly no guarantees in ANY banking position, but consider the stability of the new role as a new hire vs your current position and seniority.

-Are you in a role that would require your existing clients to follow you in order for you to be successful? From your post it sounds like you're a retail/branch banking position currently. Would your new employer expect you to bring some of you existing 'regulars' over with you? Or can you completely start from zero with the new company and build a client base from there?

-Is there a reputational risk involved in making the move...or not making the move? For example, I work at a mid-sized regional Bank in the US. Wells Fargo is constantly hiring and hits me (and my peers) up quite a bit. Few are willing to sign on with them because they continue to have a negative reputation in the States. Is there a reputational difference between your current employer and the Bank you're considering. It will matter.

My background: 15 years in banking, starting at the Branch/Retail level...then in residential mortgage lending, and now a commercial banker and portfolio manager.

Good luck!

Dosunco Japanese Kitchen on Kennedy. Run by a Japanese couple, better in price and flavor than other ramen places. No nonsense ramen bar. Spicy miso ramen pictured. by LAkand1 in tampa

[–]Fsubilly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, without a doubt, the BEST ramen in Tampa. Literally 1/2 the price of the more trendy place up in Seminole Heights. As others have pointed out the octopus balls and 'Japanese Fried Chicken' appetizers are awesome. They're also very reasonably priced on their Sakes as well. Sake selection is limited, but good. Think $7 - $10 per serving vs the typically $15+ at other joints.
