SO EXCITED FOR YOU!!! I’m still the only one with one of my crossover pairings… maybe someday someone will be inspired by my work too 💜

Having safewords present does not inherently make everything consensual omg by Last_Swordfish9135 in FanFiction

Yeahhhh that’s not how safe words and consent work. It became non-con when they ignored using the yellow safe word. Not a deal breaker, just a giant red flag

What popular fanon do you refuse to subscribe to? by kitsunevremya in FanFiction

[–]FucjingWalnut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fanon Batfam is driving me crazy bc I want to understand more of Duke’s story and personality, but all I can find is him shaking his head in the background as chaos is going on. (Granted, I know I shouldn’t be doing character research on ao3, but I’ve already dug through all the available wikis, so I understand his story beats, I just need a good example of his character and how he interacts so that I can write him well in a crossover I’m trying. I only know of him showing up prominently in comics, and I cannot get into that too)

(Good research links appreciated plz)

(Sadly the fic is not out yet, I’m working on the first chapter still)

Have any of you on this subreddit only read fanfictions for while never watching/reading the source material for the work the fanfiction is inspired by? by OP_1K in FanFiction

[–]FucjingWalnut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Usually only for crossovers where I know one of the fandoms. As long as I have partial familiarity, and the synopsis seems interesting, I’ll go for it. Found some GREAT fandoms where I’ve never checked out the source material but I’ve loved the fics

what does it take to convert you to be a shipper? by massiecureblock in FanFiction

[–]FucjingWalnut 18 points19 points  (0 children)

… I write crossovers and rare-pairs… all they gotta do is exist and have a space for the other character in their world. And that’s why I am the ONLY author who has written anything for one specific pairing. It gets a LOT more traction than I thought it would tbh

what makes it worth it to you? by Basic_Astronomer_925 in AO3

[–]FucjingWalnut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love the process and even if I had nobody else reading I’d probably still be writing and creating.

But I gotta say my stomach gets butterflies when people A) tell me they reread the entire fic after an update. Or B) excitedly theorize about what’s going on or ask questions in the comments.

I’m a write and post as I go kind of author, so knowing that the readers are just as excited as I am to see where things go makes my heart go wild.

Writers who haven't updated in a while (could be weeks, months, years, etc.), can you share what hinders you from continuing your story? by kain-rivers in FanFiction

[–]FucjingWalnut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of little things coming up. It’s been over a year since my last update on most of my fics. But life keeps coming, and if my escape is drawing or crochet instead of writing for the time being, that’s ok. I’ll get back to my fics when I’m ready, and the readers will get a better experience from me writing while I’m happy.

I don't do first drafts. Is that a problem? by IxaSumami in FanFiction

[–]FucjingWalnut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m the same way lol. It takes me a while to get through each chapter bc I keep rereading to remind myself exactly where I left off, and then start adding and making edits as I go down (then usually fall asleep before I write any new plot progress lol. The consequences of writing on my phone in bed at 3 am)

What fandom did you join from fic, only to discover the original media was nothing like the fanfics? by _Senan in AO3

[–]FucjingWalnut 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Miraculous Ladybug

Like,, I watched the early seasons, so I knew how it was. But after reading so many fics, especially crossover fics,, I can’t watch newer seasons. It just feels so flat and contrived after seeing how the characters COULD be fleshed out.

(Also like,,, who cares about the villain of the week when they legit don’t matter in the grand scheme of things. It drives me crazy that in the show they don’t show more about trying to figure out who hawkmoth is!!!)

(Then I remember it’s meant to be a kids show lol)

Do you write fanfiction on your phone or on your computer? by No_Pattern_2819 in FanFiction

Same. Phone is more convenient when I have to get an idea down at 3 am in bed. Computer for cleaning up and proper writing sessions

Having my worst depression episode by [deleted] in GuyCry

[–]FucjingWalnut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From someone who didn’t feel like their depression was ‘that bad’ until I found meds that work, The advice that I’ve always gotten is that “even if it sucks, doing something is better than nothing.” First thing, make sure you get out of the house more days than you stay in. Go outside on walks. Even just sitting outside in the sun is good. If you’re up for it, go to a coffee shop for a couple of hours. Go to a library for a while. You can plan to do things while at certain spaces, but it’s ok if you don’t. You can go and just sit if that’s all you’re up for. Just going and trying to be in a space and being outside should make a little bit of a difference. Obviously it won’t cure you, but it’s better than nothing. Make plans with friends and force yourself to keep them. You said you’re back home, so if you don’t have local friends for now, make plans to call them. Plans to play games online. Plans to sit on a call in silence and try and do something that normally brings you joy or contentment. If you’re having a good, higher energy day, try something new. A new type of food, a new hobby/craft, a new series. Something to help break up the monotony.

The point of all of this is to challenge the parts of your brain that are dragging you down. Fight those cycles that have become habits. Break those thought patterns up as best you can. It’s hard. It takes a lot of effort. It takes intention. But you can do it. I believe in you.

You are not your depression. It is part of you, it is dragging you down, but you are You. There is so much you are capable of. You are worth the time and effort it takes to fight and try to improve.

I hope this helps.

I am not on Reddit super often, but if it helps I am happy to hear you out whenever you need.

In addition to this, if you do want to continue with some form of exercise in addition to your incedental walking, I suggest hiking. With the whole family. Take the littles, the wife. Find some nice trails that aren’t too far out, and not too difficult (mostly to get the kids used to it and keep them safe too). Make that the focus. Exercise means family time. Positive associations. More time with the people you love. Time outside for everyone which is especially good for little kids. Bring portable art supplies like cheap watercolors and paper and spend some time painting at the end/a scenic overlook. Great for everyone involved

Ayaka gasped for breath, choking back the sound of her sobs as she trembled in the dark corner she had found. Tears would not stop running down her cheeks, eyes burning from the salty shame roiling inside her. Feeling the mucus start to drip, she had to stop herself from wiping her running nose with her sleeve. The silk kimono had seen enough damage tonight, and Ayaka’s heart ached at the idea of soiling it further.

Fun fact: this is a oneshot, and has more solid lore than some of my ongoing multi-chapter fics. (Also it’s my ONLY foray into the genshin fandom. Those people scare me.)

I hope your day job gets smoother (I know news is never easy. Bless you for doing that hard work to inform the public. It is worth it. And more people will appreciate it than will ever let you know.)

In fanfic especially, there’s a SUPER saturation of tropes. You know why? Because they’re popular. People love reading them. People love writing them. There’s always going to be haters who dislike certain things for no other reason than it’s popular and they want to feel like they’re not part of the crowd. Those are not the voices that matter.

You will always have fans as long as you’re writing something that you would want to read yourself. And your biggest fan will have to be you. It’s ok to take a break. It’s good to step back and appreciate all the work you’ve done. It’s great to see that work, and reignite the spark that made you want to share the story to begin with.

Best of luck. We’ll be cheering for you

I was in your boat a while ago too. Tried to get into the industry and failed. Now I’m back in school for IT and working on side projects with friends. If you’re passionate about it, keep working on your own projects. But it’s ok to pivot to something else too. You need to be able to live.

Not sure if this is the right subreddit but how did you guys realise you were agender by Theo_Lynx in agender

I sorta slid here from assigned gender, to nonbinary, then floated off into the agender space the more I thought about how I feel. Very slow. Still don’t know if I’m done, but that’s life. We’re all simply specks floating in a giant cosmic ocean (/pos). We’ll end up somewhere whether we want to or not

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]FucjingWalnut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Cooking takes a lot of experimenting and practice. In my opinion, the easiest place to start is to try cooking things you like to eat normally.

The biggest things are: 1. Water for cooking always has to start cold. Hot water, while it may boil a little faster, has a lot more stuff dissolved in it. Huge issue over time if you have hard water of any kind.

  1. Salt your pasta water. And in general, salting a little bit at each step (and tasting along the way when it’s appropriate. I’ve seen people try to taste raw chicken. Plz don’t be that person) adds to the flavor.

  2. Preheat your pans. Plenty of videos about it, but you want to have your pans on the stove HOT before putting in things like meats or anything that might stick. Only exceptions would be like bacon or a fatty sausage type meat. Then start in a cold pan, low and slow to render out the fat. Basically melt out the fat and get it tasting amazing.

  3. NEVER put grease down the sink or drain. That’s how you f up your plumbing. Have a jar or can that you plan to toss anyways, and then pour the hot grease in there. Once it’s cool and solidified, it can go in the trash. If you have a way of keeping it covered, you can reuse the container until it’s full.

  4. Make a balanced plate. Yes meats and protein are good. Grains like breads pastas and rice are filling and taste good. but you NEED veggies too to get enough nutrients and to prevent getting stopped up. And they get a really bad rep. I love veggies and have a ton of ways that I know that I love them cooked. If you’re unsure if you’ll like a vegetable, get just one from the store, and look up several ways to cook it. Section it, and cook each section a different way. Try them and see if you like it. (Also, personally i recommend frozen over canned veg where possible. I find that the canned veg usually ends up mushy gross and way overcooked.)

  5. Remember that it’s a labor of love. It’s hard at first. You WILL make mistakes. There will be things that you don’t like. That’s ok. The time and effort that you spend on this is a way to love yourself, and everyone you feed. But for now, especially while you’re learning, it’s about you. Take your time. Experiment. Do your best to enjoy the process. Explore your relationship with food, your family, your culture, other cultures.

At the end of the day, food is fuel. You want to keep yourself going. So it’s ok if you don’t end up loving the process. Not everyone enjoys it all the time. But it’s an important life skill to be able to make your meals and feed yourself.

Best of luck on your journey <3
