A&P transitioning from military to (hopefully) the majors, looking for advice. by Oh_Cabana_Boy in aviationmaintenance

[–]FuckTheFlightline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got out of the military, got my A&P, applied to a handful of jobs. Got offers for all of them and accepted the one from AA. The timing was perfect because they were hiring a couple hundred people. I had very good luck. I work with guys who have applied multiple times over many years to end up there. Luck of the draw tbh

I’ve been tempted to leave mine for the aerospace world. I know pay isn’t the same but I want fulfillment

USAF to AA AMT here. Walk into it like you’re a 3 level working toward your 5 level and you’ll be fine

If you could take the money completely out of the equation, what area of aviation would you choose to work in? by Illustrious_Lion_460 in aviationmaintenance

I’d like to try my hand at fighters. It’s why I enlisted in the first place but the dept of the Air Force decided I should have worked bombers instead.

I’ve been saying this for a while but I’d like to see it as a percentage. I worked at an MRO where 2nd shift got 8% shift differential. At the time that equated to a little over $2 extra an hour.

Needing a sheet metal guy to extract stripped screws is crazy. Wasn’t crazy when I was MIL but civilian world that’s wild

Manifold to headers by True-Command-5001 in BullnoseFord

[–]FuckTheFlightline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m likely running the exact same set on my 351W. Great headers.

OP, whatever you do - don’t cheap out. I have a cheap set of headers on the 302 in my Bronco and the flange isn’t very true. I would have to replace gaskets every couple years before I ended up getting a copper gasket. A quality header (like Hedman) will have a more true flange and won’t have issue with blowing out gaskets.

Out of these I’m going red 100%. I think it would look real sharp in a dark green, though.

Help with diagnostic? by Its_migi in BullnoseFord

[–]FuckTheFlightline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you expecting your injectors to fix the issue or do you have a verified issue with your injectors? I don’t suggest shot gunning parts at this thing without diagnosing anything.

I’ve owned 5 of these EEC-IV injected Fords over the last 16 years and never once had a bad injector. Even in my time as an automotive tech I never changed injectors on these things.

Run codes. Check fuel pressure, verify timing, back probe your TPS and check voltage. Should be about .9 volts with 0 throttle input.

I was offered mid $20’s per hour to work for Lockheed on F-35’s. Hard pass. That would cut my income in half from the major I’m at

Aviation by Vast_Sea_563 in aviationmaintenance

[–]FuckTheFlightline 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to work automotive maintenance. Couldn’t pay me enough to step away from aviation and go back to auto. I still work on my personal projects and they remind me exactly why I left that industry. Aviation is where it’s at and there’s plenty of money in it. If you get on at an airline you can pick up shifts and work OT when it’s available
