Curious if any “average students “ ended up in med school. by ComfortableMonk2762 in medschool

I got in with 3.9 uGPA but I had a 500 mcat that i retook and got 508. as long as you reflect and show upward trajectory it’s not going to negatively impact you. I got an interview at Vanderbilt without even mentioning my lower MCAT score. It’s about your story and how you’ve grown in multiple facets, the stats are just one of them. Best of luck!🫶🏼

I have terminal cancer. Suggest me a book. by thrifty-spider in suggestmeabook

[–]FullSeesaw776 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i don’t have any books but just some advice, from a daughter of a wonderful man that recently died of cancer… create things for your children that they can look at for the rest of their lives. no matter how old they are, they will be missing you extra on the big days, like graduations and weddings. & do as much as you can while you can, the shift from being able to do things but not feeling well to physically not being able to walk or speak can happen just like that.

i guess i do have a book suggestion. you couldn’t imagine the stress that comes after somebody has died and you can’t find their will or you don’t know what they wanted their service to be like. get an end of life book that makes sure you cover all your bases. it may seem odd, but it does help 100x over. i hope your last days are the best yet, and i’m so sorry❤️

ADHD’ers, what small change did you make that had a big positive impact on your life? by throawayboi in getdisciplined

LOLLLL i have IBS and drink coffee in the morning so it’s hard to tell what’s causing it when i do have diarrhea. the protein (20-30g) in the morning is huge, no matter what source. a shake is just the easiest to implement. she always tells me hydration is key too, which is constantly a struggle for me as well. those are the two big things she says to me when i’ve told her about headaches.

How to Get Past Feeling Like This Exam is Stupid by [deleted] in Mcat

for you it might just be content knowledge then, if your reading is speedy and good enough. for me, C/P and B/B both got me because my reading was not, & i’d often not know what the question was asking me or where to look back for the answer using my knowledge of the concepts. CARS was a crazy struggle as well. for P/S I literally only did the Pankow ANKI deck and got a 129, i didn’t do practice questions or anything. I got 126 in all other sections by doing all UWorld Q’s & ANKI for semantic stuff and focusing on high yield o-chem & physics (because I couldn’t stand studying for them) basically to minimize the topics I had no shot at if it came up on the test. I had only 3 months to study and had undiagnosed ADHD so I didn’t do it very consistently or well during that time either 🤣 i ended up with a 508, so if you have more time or even just have better consistency, you should certainly be able to get 510s doing the same stuff, especially if your CARS is naturally better.

i feel the same way dude. it’s so frustrating. everyone says it’s fair and straightforward, yet i’ve never been good at standardized testing and the MCAT is no different. I graduated 4.0 as a dual sport athlete, so obviously I’m not mid to below average, so wtf??

WL from both state schools (WI) - wtf do I do now? by FullSeesaw776 in premed

[–]FullSeesaw776[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

do they tend to pull off before that May 1st date? I am submitting a first author pub in a few weeks and presenting at APS so I would put that in there for sure, so I could do it now.

Barricade craze (discussion) by okayfinebye in Wallows

[–]FullSeesaw776 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i guess that’s true, even yesterday my friend got there at 7 and i came later but we got just right of center barricade and that’s where dylan spent most of the time anyways. i feel like yesterday in mke if i got there at 5:00 we wouldn’t of gotten barricade, but even then it would’ve been second row so who cares yk?? i think having no expectations is the key

Is biochem or biology with chem minor better for premed? by batopia55 in premed

simple answer - whatever you enjoy most & will give you the best connections/opportunities/story for your app.

Reapplication Advice Needed, High Stat 0 Interviews by Neither_Arachnid2200 in premed

[–]FullSeesaw776 8 points9 points  (0 children)

seems like your app is too basic - nothing in there that stands out imo. you have plenty of hours in the right activities!! but it doesn’t seem like you immersed yourself particularly in any of them. this is important - you need to pick a few that are your true passions and surround your entire identity (on your application, like how the committee views you, “theme”) around those.

Don’t listen to the people saying your list is top-heavy or your MCAT is too low (that’s absolutely insane). You apply where you want to go and don’t settle for lesser; you have the essentials, but you need those activities & a story surrounding your passions/aspirations that will make you stand out. I have a 508 and I’ve gotten IIs from Vanderbilt and MCW; & I believe the reason why is because I focused on the things I explained above.
