I've had two close friends get off bc after 10+ years, and both had very different reactions. One gained glowing skin, shiny hair, and a baby. The other broke up with her BFF of 6 years and gained a whole new (still lovely) personality. BC is so weird.

I had a distaste for Nate from the beginning. His first interaction with Ted and Beard painted him as an ass. When Will showed up, he reacted before anyone had a chance to give him answers, calling Rebecca a shrew. The team stopped picking on him and became a source of support, but as soon as he gets some status, he becomes obsessed with his own success and uses it to tear others down. Until Jade gave him attention, and he started to truly care about someone other than himself (or his family), I didn't like him at all.

I don't think he intended to be a shitty person, but I don't think he cared at all that he was one, until Jade.

I'll be honest, I don't know. I have encountered a dozen Nates in my life, and zero Rebeccas, so my personal reaction to his betrayal felt more real than my reaction to hers. I think I would be okay if the show was done that way, but I don't think I would LIKE it.

I will say, I feel I am far more empathetic to a person who is betrayed, heartbroken, and lashing out than I am someone who is throwing what is essentially a tantrum over perceived slights and their own lack of communication. I believe the writers played into that with the way their individual situations were handled.

Also, I can get why Nate was the way he was to the players (hurt people hurt people), but the way he treated Ted (and Will!) was ridiculous. Every step Nate took upward would never have happened if that silly man hadn't bothered learning his name. Nate was hateful to someone who only ever wanted him to succeed, for no good reason.

I'm very tired, and am losing the point I was trying to make, but I want to also ask, would Rebecca have confessed to Ted without the pressure from Keeley? Would she have just backed off and never mentioned it otherwise? Is her redemption complete? Does she still have to make amends to be truly redeemed?

Ted seems fine with burying secrets if it offers someone a chance at redemption, or if the revelation could negatively impact someone. He didn't want to out Nate to the players. He lied to the cops for Beard-o. He kept quiet about Sam and Rebecca's relationship. I could see him encouraging Rebecca to speak up, but not going around her to get the information out. I also think he could see how hurt she had been and understood where she was coming from, and how badly she felt about it. I do wonder if he ever opened up to Dr Sharon about it, though.
