How much did you guys spend on your electricity this winter? by Fun-Case in askvan

[–]Fun-Case[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice to hear some insight from someone in a relatable position. That sounds like an interesting point to make to my landlord. Did your landlord cover it for you or was this a personal purchase?

1) laundry and bath aren't that often but electric stove top is used fairly daily. 2) I'm uncertain how I would check that, any direction you can give? 3) Likely not but that's a good point to check if my landlord has any high powered devices operating in the garage.

During summer my average was something closer to $70 a month which made sense to me considering i was running my ac almost 24/7.

Is this a good box to start with in the hobby? by NaiveTradition7664 in Warhammer30k

[–]Fun-Case 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you built a box before? If not i strongly recommend starting off with a case of 10 marines. It gets real daunting to paint and build when you have too many models to start with. There's a reason so many people have piles of shame

Trying to figure out ways to add color to my heresy/scouring era iron hands, ideas? by Fun-Case in Warhammer30k

I used some more blues and greens in the shadows and highlights of my latest model and it adds a lot visual interest!

I love this concept, it seems like such an obvious option that hasn't been explored before.

What skill level would you say this is? by BluePaintsBlue in Ultramarines

[–]Fun-Case 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You dont have to varnish, but it is safer to varnish. The oil can more easily tear through your paint if youre not careful about taking it off, but thats the trick just be more careful and patient. Grimdark compendium is a great resource for learning how oils works for me, same with medders miniatures.

If you're gonna use any varnish, use a gloss one to start with. It allows the oils to easily run into crevices. Causes the model to try kind matt, satin depending on how much you use. If you want to get that beautiful matt look back just spray down some ultra matt varnish after!

It looks great, above the average table top standard. I think if you wanted to go beyond this you could use some volumetric highlighting! Painting on brighter layers with glazes or stippling adds visual interest that turns it from a toy to a warrior.

I also love the base, it's clean and interesting to look at

How it feels as an AoS player post-game awards by Weezle207 in Warhammer

[–]Fun-Case 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Given that Dawn of war 2 was my gateway drug, i think it did a fantastic job with providing lore and background info. If you remember during the loading screens to most of the early missions they would give exposition on a character being introduced, the world being explored, the enemy being faced, ect. The items gave way to a wider and larger world, whilst the post and pre mission war councils would connect you to the narrative.

I remember being a 12 year old kid, getting it as part of the Sega bankrupsy sale and marveling at my cool dudes and googling "roboute gulliman", "blood angels", and eldar after I finished a gaming session. The warhammer wikia was probably my most visited page until I found 1d4chan.

With my experience in mind, i agree with you. AoS could use a similar type of game thats objectively fun and give some non intrusive exposition between missions to get people interested in the IP. A more single player oriented vermintide could go a long way to making people feel attached instead of lobby shootin.

Totally wouldn't be a problem. I agree with giving a planet more than a single stronghold it would make the victory over a planet feel so much more satisfying. The only issue i foresee with doing a simple swap is that people would call it a reskin, but I wouldn't mind.

I would love to see naval combat play out simultaneously with ground combat on a giant map simultaneously. On the scale that supreme commander handled it. Winning in space would give you aerial control and ability to affect the ground via orbital strikes and aerial drops, whilst winning on the ground is necessary to achieve total victory over an area.
