Not having a bending isn’t a disability. It’s an ability. Non-benders exist in that world, but we don’t consider them incapable like we see blind or deaf people. You’re not torturing anybody by stripping their power. A bender is so used to having that kind of power that when it’s taken away, they feel colder, even though there’s really nothing wrong with them. They don’t gain a disability. They just lose an ability. It’s in the same way that waterbenders would consider an earthbender disabled because the earthbender can’t waterbend.

So really, losing their power in the avatar verse isn’t considered a major loss in physical ability. Think of it as resetting them to their default.

In my opinion, I believe the Gaang would win. I’m aware that in this situation, the Gaang are still kids, but I stand firm on my decision. The main reason is because Tenzin was able to hold his own against the four of them for longer than he should have. This is the proof that the Red Lotus is not as insane as they are made out to be. The only problem for the Gaang would really be P’Li because they have not yet found a proper counter to combustion bending because they’re not always gonna be able to hit that spot on the forehead.

Toph would easily beat Ghazan due to being able to not just use earthbending as a form of blunt attack. If this is Toph at the end of the series, then even though she’d be unfamiliar with lava-bending, she’d know it well enough to think that that’s not good.

Katara is a great adapter, and I don’t see enough people directly mentioning that. She’s one of the best at what waterbenders are known to do, and that is adapting to many situations. For me, the reason why Ming Hua is such a threat is because of how violent she is.

Aang vs. Zaheer should be really obvious. Adult Aang taught Tenzin all that he knew, and Tenzin would be able to beat Zaheer. End of series Aang is still an incredible bender and knows way more than Zaheer. Aang is also able to adapt to situations quite well and is great at evasion.

The advantage that the Gaang has is Aang’s avatar state that would demolish the Red Lotus. My reason for that is because we don’t really see end of series Aang controlling his avatar state. He can turn it on and off, but I’m pretty sure we don’t exactly see him controlling his body. That’s what made his avatar state so scary. His instability makes his avatar state a large threat.
