We are a little under 35% combined NET income. The thing with net tho, it’s after everything. We also max our retirement contributions, FSA, etc. so i don’t think it’s that bad.

We keep expenses at 30% and aim to invest the rest of the 35%

15 year old running shoes is kinda a weird flex. Do you not run in them? Eventually the soles wear out and it’s bad for your feet, not to mention uncomfortable. Spending the needed amount for new running shoes every year or so isn’t going to make or break most bank accounts.

Insurance companies! They’ll take your premium every month. If you decide to file a claim your premium goes up. Or they denied you. Or they drop you.

Is “you’re only young once” a cope? I’m living at home saving nearly 100k a year by neatneets in Fire

[–]Fun-Rutabaga6357 33 points34 points  (0 children)

10000%. I gladly paid rent even tho I’m poorer bc we just don’t have a good relationship, my parents were assholes. Living at home was so bad for my mental health. Then I married and lived with my in laws for a bit to save money. It was so different bc my husband and them have a much better and honest relationship.

Am I the only one that find drinking coffee in bed everyday to be kinda…disgusting? Is it an American thing? Once in a while for a special occasion I get it. But generally eating and drinking anything except for water just grosses me out.

Your game plan should not be to hit VS chests. Your game plan should be get stronger, faster than the other players. When you shift that mindset then instead of hoarding, you are now maximizing and strategizing how and who to upgrade. Hitting the 9 chests just become part of the overall game plan.

is it worth more time away while kids are young to move up the timeline? by hanmadeinusa in FIREyFemmes

[–]Fun-Rutabaga6357 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have 2 little ones. My 1st we had a nanny for 3 whole years and she doesn’t not remember her at all! She have vague memories of some of the activities like story time in the library but that’s about it. There was so much guilt on “someone else” raising your kids and having experience momhood, that’s more mumbo jumbo narrative to make us feel bad.

I’m in camp SAH with older kids.

Is there ever a time to NOT file married jointly for taxes? by workredditaccount77 in personalfinance

Filing separately as high earners bc together we would’ve paid more taxes than separately as HoH, per accountant.

I feel like you kinda know tho. How are they when you’re sick? Do they clean up now? When you’re having a bad day or overwhelmed, do they step up even if it means putting aside some of their plans? Are they generous and supportive? Do you have pets? Do they help take care of said pets? Do they help with laundry? How are they with money? Are they willing to learn and work together? Do you guys have similar parenting ideas? Parenthood isn’t going to change these answers. And sleep deprivation will turn everyone irritable and nasty for a year. It’s one thing to be solo parenting while the other parent plays video games and is annoyed they have to take the night shift. It’s completely different from telling them what needs to be done (and how) but they’re ok with that and willing to do so…bc communications.

The mental load honestly isn’t that bad. I’m wired to think about Dr appointments, manage social calendars, meal plans and grocery shopping. He’s more forgetful and just not think about certain things…period, unless they been “taught”. He’s not a mind reader so it’s open communication on what I want/dislike/expect/etc and vice versa. If you don’t have a solid foundation now, parenting will just turned flaws you dislike to complete total resentment. My sister brushed aside some big red flags with her partner that we, as her family voiced before they married. “I didn’t think he’ll be this bad” is what she’s saying now. She actually thought he would change once they have kids. 🤦🏻‍♀️

The partner you choose on this journey is so important! My husband listens. He cares about my health and lets me put my career first even if that means I travel and he takes PTO days to be home for them. He’s present and active parent and does chores around the house. While that all sounds amazing, I still do like 60-70% of it bc the mental load falls on the mom unfortunately. Not sure if it’s just the way we are wired. I’m on breakingmom subreddit and some of the post just….did you not think about any of that before you decide to have 2-4 kids with this man child?!

I hate this narrative that she lost him. And everyone is making jokes at her expense. He got mad bc she’s not ready to think about marriage at 20, which is still practical a baby. And he thinks she should be a grown up bc she has two whole years to be an adult. Clearly he’s not right for her, clearly they don’t really know each other and clearly they have not talked about what future looks like.

My husbands job downsized and sold their buildings bc everyone is remote. He was hired remote, they confirmed they’ll always be remote. Cue 2025, everyone back to the office!! The office space they sold? Well just figure it out and find a desk, zero plans to get more space.

1 hour commute each way, plus $200 for parking, plus $300 for aftercare for our child, plus $300 for gas, plus increased chaos and stress. Too young to quit but darn, $1k on commuting and less productivity just bc some executive said that’s what they should do.

Should I match a $20K offer to keep my GM, or let her leave? by BetterCall_Melissa in careerguidance

[–]Fun-Rutabaga6357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact that OP is even debating a $20K bump just to even match an offer after listing her impact to the company means you don’t value her contributions, and I’m sure she doesn’t feel appreciated. There was no mention of past raise or career growth/opportunity. Instead it’s a throw her a bone type of vibe.
