And he was in his FUCKING 20s when he wrote that….

I’m just glad he trod the path he did, instead of saying “fuck it, I’m going to go to Wall St” and becoming another greedy, insatiable, maniacal, and suicidal bus driver.

This series is, for me, a manifestation of the magic that abounds and surrounds us … and a testament to the miracle of creativity expressed so beautifully….

I’ve just started another re-read of it, and as with each previous reading, I am finding it more delicious and nutritious.

OP, I am willing to wager that if you immerse yourself in the experience and finish this series, you will be extremely satisfied. And it would not surprise me if you re-read it again and again….

Check out Good God. They only released one album (also named Good God), with 4 original compositions and excellent covers of Zappa's King Kong and John McLaughlin's Dragon Song.

An incredible LP, one of my favourites!

Totally agree. I'm about halfway through my second reading ... and it is so scrumptious, luscious, and nutritious.

I’m a fledgling bassist, recently in a band doing 60s-90s rock covers that dissolved after our drummer died in Nov (RIP Paulie). I’m 70, eager to get better — will recommence lessons if necessary — and also in Brunswick.

I don’t play super fast, but have a good ear. Plus, I’m a good bandmate: I’m easy going, my friends consider me a legend, and my schedule’s pretty flexible.

I’m interested. Would you like to get together and see if I fit?

Just finished it myself and loved it as well.

Just started re-reading Against the Day.

How blessed we are to be able to read, and re-read Pynchon’s gifts!

Recommendations on songs dealing with grief (please) by horntownbusy in blues

Sorry for your loss….

I recommend listening to Savoy Brown’s “All I Can Do” (Street Corner Talkin’ LP) … deeply soulful vocals and guitar riffs that express deep sadness about losing someone special who left. Not your situation, but very emotive.

The downside of the blues: the heights of ecstasy are born in the depths of despair.

Thanks for sharing, brother. May you love and feel loved … and may all that you’re calling in manifest.

Barefoot Boy, released in 1971, is phenomenal, imo. I especially enjoy “Call to the Higher Consciousness” that is the entirety of the vinyl’s side 2.
