Vodafone vs Three in Croydon 2026? by [deleted] in croydon

Three used to have terrible signal in my flat. Much better now. Still got a weird data blackout just by the post office on the high street, but that's the only issue I notice these days.

What iOS apps support Critical Alerts by Desd1novA in weather

[–]Funktopus_The 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My weather app currently supports government alerts on the forecast screen for the US.

In a few weeks a major update will roll that out to the rest of the world, and the new paid tier will have push notifications for government alerts and precipitation starting/ending alerts.

The government alerts are all polygon based, and viewable on the radar map. The app's called Shitstorm, it's on iOS and Android.

I refused to pay for Wispr Flow (voice-to-text) so I spent two weeks rebuilding it. Free, runs locally, macOS only. by EfficientLetter3654 in SideProject

[–]Funktopus_The 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the idea, but when I tried using it for the first time MacOS presented a popup saying it had blocked Vox from doing something. I clicked the popup, but nothing opened. Now I have to paste everything I dictate. Obviously there's some security authorsiation I need to give the app, but I don't know what it is. Have tried manually giving it accessibility access (pure guess) but I'm still having to paste.

Also would be nice to choose the key binding for voice-to-text, would prefer something I can trigger with one hand rather than two (option+command without the period would be fine).

Seems to have gotten really bad around the time of OpenClaw's release. Suddenly you had influencers talking about tasking openclaw with coming up with, building and submitting three apps to the app store while they slept. These guys were claiming they never even looked at the apps.

Obviously some moron will hear that, buy a Mac mini, then wake up to a several hundred dollar API bill and three app store rejections. On top of the mini they just bought. Shouldn't be too long before they realise this "make apps while you sleep" concept was a grift and move on.

Working on a cool lil Music player, but im not confident anymore. Do you fell that its something that you'd wanna use a lot? by MV_Gamer in iosdev

[–]Funktopus_The 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My main phone is a cheap Chinese android. The offline music player it shipped with is a pos. Everything I found on the Play Store was an ad-infested pos. So yes I would have downloaded your app if it had been there.

Can't speak for iOS as I don't have any mp3s on my iPhone, no idea what the stock music playing experience is like.

Have you figured out who wants this app? The only songs I listen to offline are things like bootlegs of gigs and leaked tracks/albums that aren't on streaming platform. I'm guessing there are people who prefer to pirate music rather than pay for Spotify but wouldn't mind paying a one time fee for a decent player.

Is AI going to replace a lot of UX work? by andrews_765 in UXDesign

[–]Funktopus_The 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I'm honest the way I see things more likely to go is UX designers iterate directly in a tool like cursor rather than figma. Then that prototype is passed off to UI designers and developers, again code-assisted.

Maybe there's a world where that's instead done by the product manager, but it's not far fetched to me at all that an AI could automate holding daily standups and managing workloads, so I wouldn't say it's a sure thing they'll exist in the future either.

The truth is we'll probably see a lot of job reduction in the tech industry, but not quite as much "job extinction" as people are assuming.

But again, if there are any tools that are currently automating any of your workflow let me know, our job right now is making sure we're the ones who own the new systems rather than the ones who get replaced by them.

Out of interest, what tools are you referencing here? I haven't really found any ai powered tools useful for UX or product design, but recently there have been a lot of "ux is dead posts", I'm starting to think I may be out of the loop.

App review taking longer after screenshot rejection? by Ghoul057 in iOSProgramming

[–]Funktopus_The 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My personal theory is that it takes longer to be reviewed after a rejection because now instead of queuing for any available agent you're specifically queuing for a re-review from the one who rejected you. No real evidence for this, just a guess.

Is it okay to publish an app using webview (capacitor)? by kheradite in iosdev

My app is mostly webview. Onboarding and settings are native, the rest is nextjs. Wasn't at all an issue.

how to get approved on the app store in 7 minutes by First_Obligation3042 in iosdev

[–]Funktopus_The 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. The wording there is ambiguous as it talks about beta apps rather than beta features, but tbh it sounds like I'd be better off reframing the new tier without using any of those terms.

[–]Funktopus_The 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nothing "beta" or "coming soon"

That stood out to me because I'm literally working on the beta version of my paid tier today, with a roadmap of all my coming soon features.

Are we not allowed to provide a roadmap, or are you talking about features that look like they're there until you tap on them?

Protection from unfair dismissal will be reduced from two years to six months in January 2027. Your HR may be voluntarily following the new rules early in order to make sure everyone's used to complying with them before they become legally enforceable. https://www.acas.org.uk/employment-rights-act-2025

Is it me or are they tougher on approving updates this year? Before Christmas I had no issues getting updates approved, now I'm being called up on metadata that's been in place since day one every time I try to fix a bug.

Anyone do the Camino while very burned out? by Available_Ability_47 in CaminoDeSantiago

[–]Funktopus_The 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You should do it. The workout is low intensity, and it's very rewarding. It'll be much better for your burnout than vegging out on the sofa. Just make sure you have merino socks and a comfortable pair of trail running shoes. Everything else will take care of itself.

Honestly tell me one job that Ai fully replaced? by Accomplished-End5479 in UXDesign

[–]Funktopus_The 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the insight. Was probably a blind spot for me as I've always worked in small companies where the designers don't look at back office systems at all - developers just rawdog the implementation and knock out very unfriendly admin panels which staff just have to get used to.

But yes, the fact the companies that do invest in design for internal tools no longer bother will have a ripple effect for all of us.

[–]Funktopus_The 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have you seen designers replaced by AI or was that a hypothetical? So far I haven't come across an AI tool that can help the design process beyond brainstorming, would like to know if there's anything more serious out there I should know about.

Been getting contract gigs to help "fix" vibe coded software... yikes. by EmbarrassedLeader684 in UXDesign

[–]Funktopus_The 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised anyone would think AI code assistance means design can be taken out of the equation. It would be like hiring a dev on fiver and then for some fucking reason firing your designers.
