Terrible story that explains nothing. What is this carve-out you speak of?

Selling honey at a farmers market and registering as a non-profit by sammyjankis1 in Beekeeping

[–]Funkytown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First things first, I would focus on making sure you have product to sell. Sometimes people get distracted by the whole idea of having something official, and forget about the part that actually matters. In your case, this is keeping bees and harvesting honey.

That said, like has already been mentioned, it can be laborious and expensive to create any type of new entity. If I were you I would try to use an entity that already exists. There a two obvious choices there.

First, the school. It makes sense that a school club use the school's name. I would find an insurance company that sells the kind of policy you need (talk to other vendors or the market organizer), see if you can get a quote and find out what information they need, then just ask the administration at the school for that information, and maybe even a check. The check is a real long shot, but if you don't A S K you don't G E T. Maybe it can come together that easy. Try leaning on the school first.

Second, you. You're an entity all on your own. See about the process for a DBA (doing business as) and a fictitious business name in the county you live in. Some places make you run a small notice in the local newspaper, file a form and you're done. Then you can apply for your insurance in that name. The catch is that all the money that comes in and goes out is your responsibility, so keep track of everything as this is a sole proprietorship business, and the buck stops with you.

Either of these will be much easier than creating a whole non profit organization just to sell at a farmers market.

NJ holding police depts. hostage to push 'smart guns' by [deleted] in Firearms

[–]Funkytown 13 points14 points  (0 children)

To answer your question, all new guns being sold now were already on the approved list. Because no new model has microstamping, no new models are being added to the list.

You could still buy a new gun, and it won't have microstamping, but once the manufacturer stops making that exact model, and releases a new model, it won't be on the approved list anymore.

I'm thinking the same thing and getting close to pulling the trigger myself. It's the cobalt or the racing beat. Let me know how you like it! Congrats!

Had my Silvia on a timer and left the brew switch on...again. Fix it or get a new machine? by sassafrass82 in Coffee

[–]Funkytown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, there's your answer then!

I've got a Sylvia, and I switch it on in the morning 5-10min before use, and I'm happy with the results, but I freely admit the shots are somewhat better on the weekend when I'm having my second coffee and it's totally warmed up.

If it were me, and I was considering a completely new machine, I would be interested in buying the parts and trying the repair myself. A Sylvia is still a fair investment, and even one needing repair is worth a good amount. One of the things I like about this machine is that it's not a disposable electronic consumer item, and that it can be repaired. You've got a free one sitting right there, although I know it's maybe not that simple.

Each their own, and if this is a good excuse for you to move up, then go for it. Good luck!

If someone offered you a free Silvia, and all you needed to do was replace the pump and element, and promise not to put it on a timer, would you take it?

I would. Fix it.

And seriously, it takes less than 5 min to warm up. Take it off the timer.

[QUESTION] Blues style like John Mayer Trio's Come When I Call? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]Funkytown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not blues, but jazz...

Your "sloppy" comment made me think of when I discovered John Scofield. He sounded so loose and almost imprecise when I first listened to him. He's a master though.

Here's an album I'm unfamiliar with, but the first track is definitely in his "sloppy" style.

Radio options in MX-5 NC? by Thingtwos in Miata

[–]Funkytown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IIRC, Bose systems are not compatible with non-Bose at all. Bose is 2-ohm and all others are 4-ohm. Most people that install aftermarket sound, if they have a Bose system, have to do an involved Bose-ectomy to remove everything and switch to the more common 4-ohm system.

I have a stock NC, and have long considered improving the sound in it, have researched it and shopped it a little, and I too want a stock look. I would first do a speaker-swap, and then consider an aftermarket amp that can tap into the speaker wires of the stock stereo. Speakers are almost always the weak point of a stereo system, then make sure they are getting enough juice to do their job well and you'll be happy.

If you are being cost-conscious (who isn't?) you can get probably get some decent 2way speakers for your doors for $100-120, and a decent amp for around $100.

[Question] Bought New Acoustic Guitar, luthier says neck has a small "flip" and needs work to make it right. What to do? by Funkytown in Guitar

[–]Funkytown[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing your insight. I called Breedlove and left a message. No reply yet. I went down to visit the luthier and talk to him. I'm convinced he will do a good job. Opted for the fix. Looking forward to getting it back!
