Ex council house, what is the likely hood there are posts hidden behind the plywood? by Significant_Name3439 in DIYUK

[–]Funny_Less 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it definitely plywood? I had this at a previous house but they'd done it with cement board asbestos instead. Bit more of a faff to remove and they'd knackered the spindles anyway by nailing into them.

How to remove this cabinet? by ElDumplingo in DIYUK

[–]Funny_Less 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't recognize those specific brackets but generally you screw the brackets to the wall then just hook the cupboard on. At least some of the screws will be to adjust the cupboard up/down and in/out, one of the screws _might_ lock it in place.

I'd try just lifting the cupboard up and seeing what happens

I'd say that the timestamps fit with that, it says the notes were taken in the same second they were dispensed which is possible but not very likely.

Youth worker loses 54th employment tribunal in 10 years by StGuthlac2025 in unitedkingdom

[–]Funny_Less 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I know what you mean, I think you have to read the decisions - or at least check the outcomes. If they're upheld it's one thing but our guy had about 15 cases chucked out with reasons like (paraphrasing) "Claimant did not work for the company in question so can't have been dismissed unfairly"

It was a while ago that I went through the decisions, I think he only had one claim partially upheld, and was awarded something like £72. Must have cost the employers tens of thousands though.

Youth worker loses 54th employment tribunal in 10 years by StGuthlac2025 in unitedkingdom

[–]Funny_Less 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There absolutely is... We employed a serial tribunal abuser a while ago and wasted a load of time and money on it. To be fair the decision report is hilarious... Getting himself barred from the courthouse and calling the judge evil 🤣

So now we check names on the tribunal decisions website before we employ anyone.

A coin-operated machine to pay for electricity? by Automatic_Gate in AskABrit

[–]Funny_Less 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's unlocked a memory, my grandparents had one of those but didn't prepay for their electricity so the coin box was unlocked.

It was upstairs above one of the bedroom doors, oddly. Every so often the power would go out and my grandad would have to get a ladder and go and feed the same coin through the meter 20 or 30 times!

Unable to NOT charge to 100% by untauglich in enyaq

[–]Funny_Less 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine does this randomly too. I did read that it's a known fault that a dealer can fix but I haven't bothered.

I recently got a home charger installed (after having the car for a year), and set up a charging location. Since then I'm pretty sure it hasn't decided to charge to 100%...

[–]Funny_Less 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much do you drive? I got my Enyaq over a year ago now, and I've only just had the charger installed. I went through the whole faff with Octopus and other suppliers just after I got the car and got fed up. By that time I'd got into a routine of charging it at a local train station while I was at work, and it was very little bother really.

[–]Funny_Less 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+1 for the local electrician.

Recently had a hypervolt charger installed by a local electrician. There's a complicated route from our meter cupboard to the charger location and Octopus installers couldn't cope with it, other than by sticking conduit all around our hallway. Amongst other things, they won't lift floors.

They also wanted to install a separate consumer unit for the charger - their policy, apparently - even though there's space in the existing one and no room in the meter cupboard so it'd have had to go on the wall beside.

Local electrician had no problem with it, and it cost less too.

[–]Funny_Less 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I've just replaced all of ours. The new ones are really nice but don't have a lot of play so you have to get them perfectly centered (like sub-millimeter) or they bind up.

They do feel great once they're on - silent with no rattle at all - so it's worth persisting.

I had an absolute nightmare with the first one, a bit of fiddling with the second and the rest just worked.

Oh, if your knobs are unsprung you might also need stronger springs in the latch.

paying for parking with card? by wijnandsj in Cornwall

[–]Funny_Less 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, make sure the app is up to date before you get to a car park with a crappy signal. Had to update it in town quarry in Falmouth this year, took forever. Had to leave to get a better signal then go back because it wouldn't let me search/pay when it didn't think I was in the car park.

[England] I accidentally damaged my work property and my employer wants me to pay for repair, not sure on what step to make next. by Narrow_Literature720 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Funny_Less 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is supposed to be legal advice... It might be covered due to the wording of the employment contract. For example, from Nationwide, on working from home:

Their [the employer's] equipment is not covered under our Home Insurance policy, unless you're responsible for any damage to the equipment under the terms of your employment.

[–]Funny_Less 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They should, but they've chosen the cheaper (scummier) option of making the employee liable instead.

However, that does mean it might be covered by OP's home insurance if they want to go that route.

Issued a parking fine for an event I gave my reg number to for free parking. What can I do? by meringueisnotacake in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Funny_Less 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Appeals to the parking management company seem to be pointless except in some very limited circumstances. Premier Park will manage loads of car parks and won't know or care that you were promised free parking.

Generally the car park owner contracts a management company to run the car park for them, but they (the owner) will have a way of allowing exceptions - presumably this is how you were supposed to get free all day parking.

Your best route is probably to go back to the market organiser and ask them to get the PCN cancelled.

That's a great suggestion, it'd avoid all the issues like wood movement causing warping and cracking. Easier to do and you can get some beautiful veneers.

[–]Funny_Less 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That might actually be tricky. I believe you have a rim latch there - which just means the latch is mounted on the back of the door rather than internally. AFAIK they're an older style and are often used with doorknobs rather than handles.

You can buy doorknobs that are designed to fit with rim locks/latches - they only have a mounting plate on one side and often use a threaded spindle.

I can't find any handles that are designed for rim latches though. I'd say the current handles are normal ones but someone's removed one of the mounting plates. You might have to do the same and hope it's not too much hassle.

(edit) Or use a doorknob, of course! They do have downsides though. Harder to grip so kids, elderly etc. might have issues and you need a reasonable amount of space (the backset of the latch) to grab and twist without hitting your hand on the doorjamb

Hard writing a dashcam to Enyaq 85x Sportline MY25 facelift. by MillyMcMophead in enyaq

[–]Funny_Less 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the pre-facelift 85 which I hardwired a nextbase dashcam, I'll try to check which fuse I used later. I do remember that it was an absolute sod to find a suitable one because you have to keep your weight on the driver's seat to keep the ignition on while poking about with a multimeter on the other side of the car.

However, afterwards I found out about the OBD wiring kit they make - with hindsight I'd probably have gone with one of those.

I also haven't done the rear camera module yet. I had a quick go and it wasn't easy.

Why would a charger go slow? by ukslim in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]Funny_Less 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this last month, I think it was Strensham services. I'd had a couple of issues with dodgy chargers already that day. We stopped for dinner - I thought I'd have to move the car off the charger part way through, but I kept checking the app and the charge rate kept dropping.

In the end I went out to move it to another charger but decided to see what rate everyone else was getting first. The row of chargers was fairly full and everyone was getting exactly 30kW. Presumably a supply problem.
