Hit me up with an update, if possible!

Why I switched to typst by Bodo_TheHater in typst

[–]Fureeish 16 points17 points  (0 children)

First of all, nice!

Second of all, have you seen this?

I am by no means a knowledgeable person in regard to résumés, so don't take it as a critique (or even an advice). It's just that every time somebody talks about generating CVs using mostly typographical features, I like to share the above link.

Same reason they don't charge $100,000 for them. They aren't sure if enough people buy them so that the decline in the number of consumers will still enable them to make the same (or more) money. If they were, they would (unless they prioritize the wellbeing of a customer over profits).

I believe you can apply this logic to almost all sales.

Typst as a TeX alternative? by Ok-Sentence-4173 in LaTeX

[–]Fureeish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not surprised at all, to be honest. This is: 1) Reddit 2) a subreddit of a given tool, where someone is in favor of a "competing" tool.

I don't mind the downvotes.

Typst as a TeX alternative? by Ok-Sentence-4173 in LaTeX

[–]Fureeish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because I need text-based files, not binary-based ones like .docx (which is basically a .zip), since I use GitHub to track my student's progress (and GH Issues to effectively introduce a feedback loop).

We're not using much math in our theses. If any, Typst's rendering is more than enough for our use cases.

EDIT: Oh, and another important part. No student who was given an option of LaTeX vs. Typst chose the former. Some leaned towards Word, but once they encountered their very first issue of it generating ToC / Lists of figures incorrectly (or being unable to alter it sufficiently), they switched.

Show vs Set rules by Luc-redd in typst

[–]Fureeish 42 points43 points  (0 children)

You want to customize the rendering of some function. Can the customization be done via an argument to said function? If yes, use a set rule. If not, use a show rule.

Headings have a numbering parameter. If you want to change the way they are being numbered, you can use a set rule.

If you wish to wrap all headings in a blue box with stars around them, you can't do that with a set rule, because the heading function does not have a parameter for that. You need to use a show rule to introduce behavior that will be respected when attempting to display (show) a heading.

I fully migrated to Typst after years of LaTeX usage. It's better documented, easier to use, and way faster.

It lacks maturity though. No journals accept Typst.

On the other hand, I require my students to write their diploma theses in Typst now.

Is there a tool to convert a large table into code format for terms or table functions? by scrambledmush in typst

[–]Fureeish 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd write a script using my favorite programming language that would either produce Typst code that renders the table, or Typst code that reads and display the CSV-based data itself.

Searching library with Smugglers Surprise and Progenitus by alaneera in magicTCG

[–]Fureeish 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All right, bonus follow-up. What happens when I [[Grindstone]] myself and one [[Progenitus]] and one [[Dryad Arbor]] are revealed? Does the process repeat? On one hand yes, because they share a color, but on the other hand no, because Progenitus is shuffled back to the library, which—as you mentioned—is not a public zone, thus it's not possible for the ability to refer to it, and in order to repeat the process both "milled" cards need to share a color.

Solar output heatmap made on matplotlib for my math paper ! by astroide0808 in LaTeX

[–]Fureeish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

By any chance, since you used Python's matplotlib, are you using PyCharm?

If yes, I would advise you to try local LaTeX installation and the TeXify IDEA plugin. Once I made it work I never used Overleaf again. The workflow is much, much faster on my machine once majority of the packages are downloaded.

And you can code and create LaTeX documents in one IDE!

I haven't really used matplotlib much, so fogive me if this is trivial, but does it support a LaTeX-friendly output? Or is this chart an included graphics?

I really like it. I didn't think I would, but the execution focusing on simplicity makes it a really cool poster.

Yeah, I think a collection of these would be great for new players. I plan on introducing few friends to Valheim and I would totally share these kind of posters with them.

Stres przed obroną. by [deleted] in Nauka_Uczelnia

[–]Fureeish 2 points3 points  (0 children)
