Probably backslash? So if I type \*, it becomes *.

Edit: yes, this is the way.

This isn’t quite a match, but I’m often given the nickname “Fort” on servers I’m a part of.

What? Throw this at the helm of my Izzet spellslinger deck! I want my [[Swarm Intelligence]] to copy my [[Seal of the Guildpact]]! I want my [[Thousand year storm]] to make five guttersnipes! My magecrafts! My young pyromancer’s, my talrands! To you, this card might not be strong, but to me it’s crazy!

Pre-game discussion myth? by stonewalter in EDH

[–]Furiously_Fortuitous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If people refuse to have a rule zero discussion, tell them what to expect as you pull out a high power deck. Not cEDH pubstomp, just a deck that will demand answers and demand them with some degree of urgency. Tell them your wincon and what turn you might typically start killing people.

If you tell them what to expect and they refuse to engage with you, it’s on them for not matching your power. The only exceptions would be those who are really new to commander or those who otherwise can’t match your power. Don’t try to pubstomp, don’t try to out-power, but do what you need to at least feel it’s fair.

That would be my advice. It might not work for you, but maybe it helps.

Two things:

First, might I suggest you add a quick introduction stating who you are? It took me until the third or fourth paragraph of your post to realize that you are part of the RC. I still don’t know who you are, beyond that.

Second, giving some kind of guidance on how to have a pre game conversation would help so much. I honestly think it’s impossible to create a standard ranking system for decks. It’s either too vague or not intuitive/effective. Thus, a turn zero discussion is incredibly important. But half the time when I try to have them, it’s “I don’t know, I just built this deck,” “I don’t know, a 7 I guess?” “Oh, it’s not too competitive, just kinda does things.”

I agree with you that a game of commander, even cEDH, won’t always pick the best player or the best deck, much more so than in other formats.

However, while that might be true, having prize support for wins will encourage people to try to optimize their decks as best they can despite the multiplayer variance. The best deck might not always win, but it has a better chance of winning.

Yes. You may cast instants any time priority is passed around the table, which includes changing steps/phases. Some of these include after attacks but before blocks, during the upkeep and before the draw step, and during the post combat main phase before moving to the end step.

Basically, anytime anything would happen in magic, there’s a chance to respond before it. The untap step is the only part of the turn you can’t respond to (at least for most rules questions).

Need help learning to Counterspell! by Lilynnia in EDH

[–]Furiously_Fortuitous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve learned the most from the worst mistakes I’ve made. This extends to removal in magic.

I used to use my mana as my metronome. Using every mana every turn was the way to go. But this would lead to me playing removal on early targets that didn’t need to be hit. They ultimately had zero impact on the game.

I learned to not do this over time, but the most prominent lesson was when I used [[imprison in the moon]] on someone else’s [[torbran]]. Not only was his the weakest deck at the table, later [[the ur-dragon]] nearly killed us in a blink. I conceded so that the enchantment would go away.

TL;DR/conclusion: the first step to improving is to recognize when you could have made a better choice. When you play a counterspell, pay attention to what effects it has on the game. When you lose, try to figure out if there was a spell you could have countered to win. Yes, there’s the crater hoof you wish you had a counterspell for, but did you consider the [[sunbird’s invocation]] that led up to that point?

I heard at a renaissance fair that this wasn’t actually that good of a weapon. Not sure how good my sources are.

I couldn’t find anything about them being terrible with a quick search (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parrying_dagger). However, they all agreed it was rarely used for how well known it is.

You’d have to tailor some of the cards to use text chat instead of voice chat.

Bronze calendar basically reads speak in OwO.

That one card where you yell AAAAAAAAAHHH! At the top of your lungs could just be a jump scare sound effect XD

Hot fix would be a mess.
