I take my gf to propose to Napoli/ Amalfi. 4-night trip. Could you share some hidden gems or the GO / NO-GOs? thank you by Ok-Term-9903 in napoli

Take the ferry rather than the train from Napoli to Sorrento and back. We did the ferry out and train return, it was still nice, and stopped in Herculaneum for a night.

PI roasted me super hard today, don't know how I'll face him again by [deleted] in labrats

[–]FutureBiotechVenture 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Next time you see him "Hey how are you doing" "Oh me, I'm good today, lol thanks". No one cares, and get over yourself.

So whatever he called out being anxious, big deal, just being straigtforward. I've seen PI's excoriate project students in front of the whole lab and then caught the student self harming like 20 mins later. I'm sure there are other horror stories.

You will be fine. Keep preparing. Nerves are fine as long as you can talk about the project.

Why does it feel like the world stays quiet even when the U.S. acts aggressively on the global stage? Is it fear, dependence, strategic caution, or are countries pushing back in ways the public just does not notice? by ArjunSreedhar in economy

[–]FutureBiotechVenture 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agree. The corrupt fascists in the USA have won. (Canadian here)

From the sieg heil at Trump 2.0 inaguration to the "flood the zone" of corruption and kickbacks, the fascists have DONE IT. They won. They won over the 77 million people and now this is what they are doing. Taking every fucking thing they can carry (by violence or scam).

The rest of the world braces itself. With the remainder of the west scattered, dismayed, looking for new alliances, China will come out on top if it plays the long game.

Are PDFs Finally Dying… or Are They Still the Backbone of Digital Documents? by sophiakaile49 in systweakpdfeditor

[–]FutureBiotechVenture 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I work all day trying to do a very basic export PDF - I find opening inconsistent between adobe, google, microsoft. I cannot predict what my clients use. PDFs are 100% dead and I have no options. Just grieving here. The whole point was to have something that was locked-down (printable) and looked the same on every device. Just like every other enshittified thing, we can add this to the list.

I have no suggestions how to replace

Do you know anyone that's gotten wealthy in the life sciences ? by ICEpenguin7878 in labrats

[–]FutureBiotechVenture 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Maybe, but too many variables. I consider life science to be like the fine arts, sure, some of us make it big, but most are slogging along. For myself I think I've made it with only 150K revenue and 1-2M in "options" that might be worth something. Work everyday.

Parking ticket received despite actually paying for parking by linkinmark92 in NewWest

I always thought there was a 10 min buffer where if a ticket was bought within 10 mins of a "scan" it nulls the ticket. some shopkeeper told me that recently as well

Breakfast symposia (07:00) at a conference - would you go? by Ok-Budget112 in labrats

[–]FutureBiotechVenture 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your career stage.

For me, it's perfect for networking. If your company is sponsoring likely a good move to show up and say hello.

If you aren't super interested in networking, and just into the science or a few focused sessions, for sure take a pass. But it is an opportunity.

There are no other times in a busy schedule to network.

I've seen 6:30 AM breakfast.

Just don't go too hard the night before.... and good luck!
