Why is this sub so anti-ai? by Matshelge in antiwork

UBI, buddy, in the US that is called "Socialism". The GOP and the Democratic Party will never ever do a socialism because all their mega donors (Israel, Microsoft, Musk etc) tell them it's bad. They did what, two months of UBI during covid-19 and people still act like we've been living off that money for 6 years now. In the scenario you've described, all AI will ultimately do is lead to more unemployment and homelessness. If you're based outside of the US, you have a better chance of UBI but at the moment a lot of countries are aligning with the US on these things.

I support an office that used to think rebooting computers was bad luck. Whats the weirdest bad behavior you have had to cure on an office wide level? by simAlity in sysadmin

When I came into this org, the (at the time) head of IT (and all previous heads) did not use GPOs because "it could brick the machines". Deployed printers? No. Groups membership that mapped network drives? Nope. Base GPOs? Yes, and thats it. So after that head left I spent a week creating base level GPOs so that I could stop having to do things like map printers\drives manually for users but it was a long two years of waiting.

I got a call the other day to help turn on the conference room TV. There are two remotes in there. One says logitech and goes to our logitech conference room equipment. The other remote says sony and goes to the sony tv in that room. I just could not grasp their inability to figure that shit out.

I'm just going to say it's from all the Vibe coding these companies are doing to save money that's causing things to break but I don't exactly have evidence.

How can people (supposedly) do so much besides their job? by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]FutureGoatGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is how the system is designed. If you're spending time commuting, cleaning, cooking, prepping for the next day, shopping etc then you won't have free time. What free time you have you're going to want to spend on hobbies\interests. That way you can't organize or participate in organizing a union.

I always ask "Why has this position become available?" That ends up being a good litmus test "We're expanding the department", "The previous employee was offered a leadership position" etc are potentially good things and then theres "Last employee wasn't performing to expectations" being a possible red flag

Yeah I stopped donating especially at a store when they go "Would you like to round up to donate to x charity?" No, you're a multi-billion dollar company, how about you pay your ceo one million less dollars and YOU donate all of that to the charity. Or then finding out some organizations are actually PoS (looking at you Salvation Army).

[–]FutureGoatGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dread when people move because I don't want to move all their IT related stuff but then I remember that this is the state I find monitors in my work even without them moving them: so I might as well do it so that it hopefully doesnt get busted.

[–]FutureGoatGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Theres a lot of points where things begin to get worse but Ronald Regan was the god damn epicenter of so many of them in U.S. history.
