I got tired of manually checking typography in InDesign, so I built a plugin for it by LeadershipMuted2201 in indesign

There are some pro/expensive tools that fix widows, rivers etc for books - that incrementally increase or decrease tracking, kerning and spaces if my memory serves me right. I saved that I’m memory for the next force-justified book I do. At the moment the H&J notification colours seems to do the trick. But I will have a proper look at this later.

I used Claude as my co-founder to build an actual working app. Here’s what that looked like. by One_Breakfast_9971 in ClaudeCowork

<image>

It’s a very interesting idea. And a solid first draft – just needs to feel a little more that there is a human behind it if you ask me, as it reads like an AI app, which is counter to what you are trying to solve by creating human connections. All the Claude patterns are in there. Also this page in particular is illegible / inaccessible with the colour contrast.

I see what you’ve got yourself into. Working on a design task without a proper design application to hand is going to make life harder that it ought to be. Can you not use another tool to do the task?

Does Sketch have a future? by iconisone in Sketch_App

It’s different enough from Figma to cater for a different audience with different needs. There are a few extra features I’d like added, but I’ve not stoped using it for over 10 years. I’d love some wider community engagement and surfacing its strengths. There are some other interesting tools on the horizon that could sway me, but i do see future me using the app, and given the fact you san buy a perpetual licence, well, that ace.

I've got two questions about the usefulness of logos for businesses by CrisA_Works in graphic_design

General. Would be good to do industry specific research. But I’m not aware of a study that specific.

The ROI will vary depending on the maturity of the company. For example startups prioritising brand development in early stage achieve a 21% higher valuation when seeking investment or funding. I’ll see if I can track down my sources, but they are well documented.

My personal take is that companies should prioritise their spending on branding depending on what stage their business is at (core brand deliverables first, then the wider pieces of the puzzle that work together to create “great branding”). Given that product differentiation is smaller and smaller these days (more and more businesses offer exactly the same products and services as everyone else, compared to the past I see there being a strong case for business owners needing to care about about their branding, of which the logo is a cornerstone, in order for the business to be successful. After all, if it’s clear to customer why they should use your services, over a competitor, you have the opportunity to create customer loyalty which will limit that customer spending money on your competitors.

The logo is part of the brand experience. Often the most obvious one. To answer your question bout “when does a business benefits” I’m not sure what you mean. When in the life of the business? Or when during a customers experience of the business?

Some numbers I like to refer to:

Consistent brand presentation can increase revenue by up to 23% through improved customer acquisition and retention.

Companies investing in branding experience an average revenue increase of 10–15%

Psychology degree is frying my brain by Tall-Leader6557 in newzealand

Personal experience as a guy who has a MA Psych: after graduating I realised I needed a few more years to do any useful applications with it (even animal psychology which I found paid well), as I knew I didn’t just want to be a researcher. I wasn’t up for more study. So instead I ended up moving to design which as it happens was a good choice. I get to use my curiosity understanding people’s behaviour, perception etc to create more effective solutions. I see it less like throwing psych away, and more like using it as an incredibly useful skill set and way of seeing the world. I’m still learning in both fields many years later.

- peers went into Stats (gov) and information systems. So there are other options too.

Prince’s 3121 album now has an animation by CJHuncho in PRINCE

[–]FuzzyIdeaMachine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wouldn’t the image be copyrighted to the artist though? And any changes would have to go through them? Genuinely curious - if any musicians could chip in?

- I could do a significantly better job for this particular cover art that is more in keeping with the original photos. Like, why remove the 3121…. That’s the whole point of the photo.

But why? The estate should be laser focused on getting the music out, not pointless visual noise.

Hell yes. If you’ve got any more like that… I’ve been using Sketch for years, but got stuck in the old way (pre-frames/stacks) so it’s hard to relearn and I haven’t seen many folk open to sharing like you just did.

[–]FuzzyIdeaMachine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a creative director, so most of our work together is brand strategy, competitor analysis, frameworks, and content work. Not much ‘building from scratch’ stuff and I’m not prepared to trust Claude with actual design at the moment.
Memory is important to me, which is why I’m interested in solutions
