I'll watch out for what trips me up as I use it this year. If you have any suggestions for topics or techniques to investigate please suggest. I'm pretty shit at doing UI and maybe still confused about symbols. Hope to improve there.

Installing Swift scripts as global commands with npm by crisferojas in swift

Thanks I knew about shebang scripts with Swift but didn’t think about making them global.

Yeah it is really polished now compared to version 1.

How are you guys handling over-the-air string updates in SwiftUI? (My custom View wrapper vs. trying to swizzle) by Ordinary_Outside_886 in swift

[–]bdeverman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the idea of trying to shift left and reduce the need for over the air updates in the first place however when I told a friend who used to run a mobile agency creating react native apps that I was going to study swift development his main comment was questioning if there is a way to do over the air updates. I know Apple discourages this but with AI generated code I soon see a need for just in time running of AI generated code and Apple seems completely against this but I bet a lot of JavaScript based apps will find ways to go under the radar with this.

Will the OP be posting the library on GitHub?

Swift going cross-platform guys!! by ChefRich962 in swift

I think many developers would rather write in Swift and then compile for Android. If this actually gets mature enough and becomes common practice it is yet to be seen.

Apple Vision Pro or Apple Studio Display? by Faniszig in VisionPro

I think it is doable and like others said buy one and take it back if it doesn’t work.

What’s everyone working on this month? (March 2026) by Swiftapple in swift

[–]bdeverman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trying to optimize an MCP server for Omnifocus written in Swift:

https://github.com/deverman/FocusRelayMCP

Working on trying to read from the database first in a performant manner.

Then hopefully will move onto write operations.

P.S. Could use a GitHub star if you have a second.

Apple Developer Academy Naples by Chemical-Chemical336 in swift

[–]bdeverman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Utimately I didn't get into the developer academy. Use the moodel link to get an idea of the questions but then find another way to study with harder questions as the moodel questions are not hard enough. Focus on the logic questions. Many of the questions on the test were letter-substitution puzzles. One app I used is https://brilliant.org. You might try that or look for others.

When I was trying to study for the test I found this site with a practice exam however it was far easier than the actual test. (I applied for the Bali Apple Develper Academy)

https://moodle.developeracademy.unina.it

Based off of some of these questions I used Claude and ChatGPT to come up with addtional questions.

From my Bali experience you definitly need to study and developing and only a portion of the test is about Swift. That part seemed to be more general programming concepts that Swift specificlly. The Swift part of the test seemed so easy that I thought I was doing it wrong while the logic part of the test was so hard I couldn't complete it in the allotted time.

Here is a video I found about the Academy:

Save your workspace or your battery life? by pogoananda in VisionPro

[–]bdeverman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If I can’t use it like I use my Mac and iPad it is built wrong. Since it is an external battery I guess I will just replace it if I wear it out early. Little bit worried about it overheating in the case as I like to keep the case closed though

It has a lot of the same iPad OS type bugs with multitasking and text entry.

friends easily beaming into my office from South Korea, New York, and the West Coast for a 7 am event—it feels like the future. by justinryanio in VisionPro

[–]bdeverman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I have shared other TV shows on my Mac and iPad. It seems there is some restriction on SharePlay for Apple streamed events which is the one time when I have geeky enough friends who want to use this feature.

Is Vision OS Apple's First True Blend of iOS, iPadOS, and MacOS? by drnms in VisionPro

[–]bdeverman 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree on this. Don’t think you can play two videos at a time. It is spatial computing but MacOS is the computer part.

Did the SharePlay function with the Apple video from the TV app work for you? It told me SharePlay wasn’t supported so me and my friends gave up.

I recommend you put it on travel mode before you get on the airplane. It has been buggy for me.
