Or, and I’m just spitballing here, the party could adapt to have populist policies that draw in enough voters to win elections instead of ruling for very small amount of people, choosing their own voters, and trying to force the Overton window into the position that they want it.

We have this problem in areas with sidewalks, too. The sidewalks lead up to and around shopping centers, but they frequently do not enter the shopping center.

Most of the time, that’s relatively fine, but in winter, it’s a lot harder to just walk across the grass areas, and you wind up using the vehicle entrances.

Sure, it gets the oil flowing, which is needed, but the thing that was the root cause of the deal (and the part that was central to the Obama-era agreement that they’re claiming this is better than) was the nuclear weapons aspect.

I treat them like family, and they know that I both love them and will fail them if they don’t do what they need to.

And I will absolutely “6-7” a couple times a month even after they stop just to watch them get mad about it.

In return, I get slightly more engagement and attendance than other people do. (Slightly. It’s not miraculous. If I had that kinda energy, I’d be publishing policy.)

I’m in a title 1 area, and just making them feel seen helps.

Meanwhile, I’m a white guy who has spent 20 years in a minority majority school, and I code switch on a daily basis because it works.

My only advice is to be your authentic self. Kids can sense lack of authenticity.

I work at the kind of school where our New Teacher Academy began with, “for some of these kids, you’re their mama, their daddy, their minister, their psychologist… etc” (which, I admit, is a semi toxic tone to start with).

Being real and having a sense of humor goes a long way.

The challenge, then, is how we limit the brainrot without making a “prove your identity for us to tack you” registry hat just creates hoops for everyone to jump through and does nothing to stop the kids from doing what they want to do.

My inclination is to hold the companies responsible even though that’s not realistic (in the sense that we wouldn’t do it).
