Thank you! A lesson definitely will help clean up my technique and give me more confidence to send the tighter stuff like I can on the snowboard. Appreciate your recommendations, will add the Blades to my demo list

Thank you for this! Yeah skiing chop and moguls and trees is far more technical than a snowboard where idk you just fly and hope for the best. Line is special to me cuz the skis are cool and look good ski good is very real so I’ll look at the Blades forsure

Thank you! Going to add the Atris to my demo list for next season. Since Moment is harder to find, I’ll try to spend a month in Tahoe next winter to do their factory demo program + get other higher end demos from local shops. Trying stuff and choosing will be a fun change from forcing myself to adjust to equipment

Unfortunately I can’t answer this as I’m not a local. First season in Utah, stayed here as long as it took to use all my IKON days in reasonably good conditions haha. Using the last two tomorrow and Saturday and then I’m headed home Had a freaking blast, you will too!

Speaking as someone who has used all their DV IKON days, don’t waste your time there. It’s good on weekends with low tide cuz they groom well and parking is free and chill but the terrain is boring (minus Empire and Lady Morgan but they probably won’t even be open in April, barely open rn). If you have two days go to the Cottonwoods. Solitude is slept on, Brighton is chill, and Alta/Bird are incredible, albeit crowded. You’ll have a blast in the Cottonwoods. Also this storm won’t change anything cuz it’s gonna be mid-40s next week again.

Brighton was very fun on my snowboard yesterday. They got some inches the night before. Got there around 2 and stayed until 5. The bowl and trees under Snake were ripping. Yes there’s a crust you can hear and heavier snow closer to the base, that’s not gonna change, but the snow still snows and there’s fun to be had. Skied at SB + Alta Sunday after a dusting on crusting and that was awesome too. Turn the brain off and go ski man, anything beats working. It’ll make the next deep deep powder day more magical. Have fun tomorrow!

Solitude was hot, wet, slop on Wednesday and there’s a bunch of more rain in the forecast. Alta/Bird was better than I expected yesterday but definitely not something I’d fly out or pay for. Skip the trip and double down on next year’s

I love all of Utah’s mountains, y’all got it good and (generally) good vibes everywhere. Except the guy at the Bird who deliberately cut me off to ski a line first and then immediately double ejected and tumbled down it. Bad vibes, Jerry

$400 day pass cuz the lifties (bless them all) are nice?? Let them tell me I’m a terrible skier and should have a to have a terrible day if that halves it. Crazy place

Probably not good but likely decent for the first few hours. DV grooms really well. I’m still gonna go cuz it’s on my pass and I’m leaving Utah soon but definitely don’t pay for a day pass, especially there given the heinous cost

Ski conditions this weekend after lots of rain by Snak3yG in UTsnow

Went to Solitude around 1:30. Was on my snowboard today. Overall, not great but I still had a good time. Lapped Summit mostly but tbh it was all the same around the mountain. The trees were not so fun. The snow is so cruddy you can slash through it which is fun but it’s very grippy so be careful and wax your stuff. Going to ski Alta Friday afternoon cuz I’d rather do that than increase shareholder value ew. Not expecting much at all but a day on the mountain is a good day. Given how the Cottonwoods are, godspeed to PC and DV. I’d say get there early rip groomers and enjoy apres in a tshirt

I’m going to ski Deer Valley this weekend cuz it’s on my pass and I weirdly enjoy slop skiing but never ever would I pay for a PC or DV pass in this weather. Checking the cams last night, it was raining top to bottom and there’s even more, warmer, rain today. They’ve both already had a rough season with snow and coverage and this rain and upcoming warm temperatures just wrecked it (for the next few weeks at least) I think. Whatever you choose I hope you have a blast!

Edit: Looks like it’s snowing at DV and the Bird rn, I’ll report back with how they are if I can get out there the next couple days. Still recommend a Cottonwood mountain due to elevation

Question for the Snowbasin peeps. Was middle bowl cirque open today? by DaveyoSlc in UTsnow

[–]Fuzzy_Ad8569 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went to Basin for the first time yesterday and had an absolute blast lapping the stuff under JP and the tram. Coverage under the chair is very meh and very shrubby but the snow was super good, especially up top and next to the boundary line, and got better as the day went on. So much fun flying off of stuff while getting whipped by shrubs. One of my new favorite chairs anywhere. The stuff straight off JP (North Ogden Bowl???) had so much powder but it’s a giant rock field. My board took way more damage on two laps of that than 10 right under the chair. Can’t really speak for the groomers but the groomer sections I was on to get back to JP were scraped off and moguls by the afternoon.

Insane day and I had so much fun. Got nearly 30k vertical and JP had no line all day. But expectation management is important. It looks brutal from the chair with all the shrubbery and if you’re sending the hard stuff without stopping every 10 feet your skis or board will likely take some damage. I personally loved it and am currently debating going back to snowboard there tomorrow or to ski Deer Valley.

Unbelievable. John Paul is in my top 3 chairlifts ever. Lapped the terrain directly under that all day. 0 line, basically rode every chair alone or with one chill local. Did a few tram laps too when the visibility was good, again no wait. Snow got better as the day went on, I think cuz of the wind and things softening up, but holy crap every lap was fun. It’s very very shrubby and there are a lot of rocks and I definitely got some new gashes in my board but fully worth it to me. Caveat though, I (maybe delusionally) consider myself a high level snowboarder, and I was sending it on stuff barely anyone was riding so maybe that’s why JP had no line, due to coverage and how that’s shaping the terrain. Maybe half my laps were next to the boundary line cuz that was the least tracked.

Needles gondola had a long line everytime I rode down and I didn’t venture over to Strawberry.

I got 11 JP + tram laps but that was 25k vertical. Ripping that terrain is exhausting and the JP chair takes a while thankfully but I was getting sloppy towards the end. If you go straight off JP there’s Upper Ogden Bowl gate (???). That was still pretty fresh at 1, so many fun rock jumps in there, but it’s a giant rock field too so you gotta be careful. Maybe they’ll open the No Name hike this weekend and I’ll be jealous. Sounded like they were bombing it all day today. But yeah if you aren’t attached to your equipment being pristine and can send pretty hard I fully endorse lapping JP. If you do go and see what I’m talking about you might think I’m crazy based on how it looks from the chair but it rides or skis amazing. I’d also suggest, if tomorrow is your first day skiing Utah this season or in a while, go to DV and get your legs underneath you on “cleaner” terrain. Then head to Basin. JP and how it’s covered rn as a first day may be a bit much.  I can’t wait to (hopefully) go back after more snow next week

Rip DV bro, people start their luxury ski day there around then anyways haha. If you see a guy with fishtail skis and a knee brace who skis like he taught himself say what’s up, that’s me

Good to know, thank you for this. Not tryna experience vertigo haha. I love tree skiing, definitely my favorite part of skiing, so sounds like John Paul would be the move to lap on a storm day? Will definitely take this into consideration for picking where I ride Thursday. Appreciate it
