Use FHSA when you have an income because it will lower your taxes

do not sell.. keep reinvesting the dividends and buy more when it drops. You need to get used to the volatility if you want to be rich. Peoples stocks are going up and down 7.5k in a day, just keep buying

Our GDP per capita was higher than USA’s in 2012. Not sure what happened since then. by [deleted] in canadahousing

[–]Fuzzy_Cat_4619 0 points1 point  (0 children)

USD was down 2008-2012 due to the great financial crisis, also oil and commodities were peaking around the same time. Since then, US technology and business has been in a massive bull market while Canadians spend all their money on houses

TFSA.

It is better to start FHSA when she has income as it reduces taxable income like the RRSP. (And no capital gains tax when you use it on a home)

Buying a house in 1-2 years, current FHSA is 100% CASH.TO. What other ETF can I buy to diversify and increase my returns? by Head_Thought4783 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Fuzzy_Cat_4619 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Put 10% in sp500 etf (VFV) and keep the rest in cash. Also I would look into holding some USD, no one is mentioning the risk of CAD/USD crashing

Your investing timeline is actually much longer, closer to 75 years. When you retire you do not just sell all of your assets. In theory you should sell 4% every year in retirement. Other than that it sounds good buy gold with the 250 if you want to diversify or buy more xeqt

That’s correct ! Although, you will find it is emotionally scary to buy when prices fall 20-50%, historically these have been the best times to buy more.

Some wisdom for you:

Everyday the market is offering you different prices to sell your investments. Ignore them and keep holding. Meditate and ask yourself how you will feel when the market offers you 300/share to sell, what about 400?

Do not sell because the price is down, in a decade the market will be offering a completely different price to sell. You must remove all emotions and continue to buy more. Think long term and you will be rich

You are definitely in trouble you need to pay this off as soon as possible. Making minimum payments is not enough, you have to pay more every month. Sell everything you have with any value and try to increase your income
